Amazing film, easily my favourite by Mel Brooks. The monster is yelling “puttin’ on the Ritz” during the man about town performance.

Marty Feldman, the man who played Igor, had a medical condition that gave him his looks. He never let it get in his way and he made a very successful career. If you haven’t had the chance, you can get the same effect as the drive to the castle right here in America. One night we were driving through Mississippi in the dark running ahead of a hurricane so there was lots of fog and lightning in the dark. When you get way out from the towns with the fog and spanish moss hanging off the trees it’s just about the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen. It left me really understanding why so many southerners believe in ghosts. During the dance that was a treat like you see them give to pets when they need a reward, so it probably was a small piece of candy.

American comedy hit a high-water mark in 1974 when Mel Brooks delivered the 1-2 punch of "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein".

Sir i don't think you are familiar with the original story of Frankenstein, this is kinda the same story but with jokes, but the little girl scene is very different, the original version the monster throws the little girl into the water and she drowns, the monster didn't know what was going to happen cause of his Abby normal brain, but fire is the monsters weakness, that's why every time the smallest fire is around he freaks out, the monster was never given a name until many many movies later, but he is basicly immortal when the Dr put him together he did a great job the monster is still alive in movies set in the future. He was given the name Adam in the movie I Frankenstein, good reaction though.

Marty Feldman eyes is a result of a nervous disease he had, he used it in his comedic career and is very recognizable.

The great Marty Feldman!!!!! NO one was able to keep a serious face, when he was in a line. The only person who could keep up with Mr. Feldman was CLORRIS LEACHMAN!

  • @williamjones6031

    1. Mr. Hilltop/Liam Dunn is the same guy that plays the preacher in Blazing Saddles
    2. I first saw this at a drive-in (that's still here BTW) and there was a lunar eclipse over the screen that made it even cooler than it was.
    3. The studio wanted this in color but Brooks and Wilder insisted black and white because they wanted the old school tone.
    4. Wilder agreed to do Blazing Saddles only if Brooks would direct and help write this movie.
    5. It was almost impossible to get through the "You take the blonde and I'll take the one in the turban" scene. Everyone kept cracking up. You can see Wider trying not to laugh.
    6. Igor's hump changing sides was Feldman's running gag on the cast and it was kept in the movie.
    7. Marty Feldman's walleyed orbs were the result of both a hyperactive thyroid and a botched operation after a car accident before his 30th birthday, in 1963.
    8. FUN FACT: Igor's "Walk this way" was Steven Tyler's inspiration for hit song of the same name.
    9. Wilder😇 also insisted that Brooks NOT be seen on film. However, the screeching cat and the wolf are Mel.
    10. Light reflecting off of the monster's missing teeth is not a goof. It's on purpose.
    11.Monical over an eye patch.🤣
Final note: "Puttin' on the ritz" will never be the same

Hey A, Tell Antionette Hey. Such a great, fun, quirky film. few fun facts, Props from the real original Frankenstein movies were used for this film. Studio Executives tried to convince Mel Brooks to shoot the film in color, so they moved to a different studio to keep it in black and white. Aerosmith found Igor so funny and was inspired so they wrote a song about it "Walk this Way", lol. This was great. U might enjoy a movie called " See no evil, Hear no evil" with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder from 1989. Its a really great fun film. Thanx so much, Be well, Peace

Its so misleading and incorrect. Lol. Baron Von Frankenstein, really? The mad Docs name was Victor. Gene Wilder plays the Grandson Fredrich. There is actually a town in Germany called Frankenstein. In the cemetary in the church yard there are many headstones with the inscription Vom Frankenstein. It means From Frankenstein villiage. So that casket actually says Baron from Frankenstein. It should say Baron Victor from Frankenstein. There actually is a castle ruin on the mountain overlooking the town.

In the original book I'm pretty sure the doctor was referred to simply as Victor Frankenstein, and he wasn't located in the town called Frankenstein, nor was he a Baron. Interestingly, in this movie he travels to the family estate in Transylvania - but it was Count Dracula that was from Transylvania. It's a hidden joke that I only noticed myself after another reactor pointed it out.
