My great-great Grandfather Jacob Addis was killed in November 1857 as a result of an explosion in the Lone Star mine. He was one of the owners of the mine and had laid a charge to try and open a new section of the mine. The charge went off too quickly and he was either killed as a result or fatally injured and died a short while later. The city records show the mine was located next to Sonora creek under what is now Coffill park. My Grandfather thought there were some tunnels that accessed the mine in the basement of the building next to the park. Do you know? We have seen his last will but we don't know if it was written before or after the accident. Lee Ann Lupo suggested I contact you for information.
Well incredible information certainly useful but tragic i'm sorry for your Family back then, But there are two buildings one as a mexican restaurant now the other side has the downstairs going to another restaurant. I have been in the basement of a Mexican restaurant that is next to coffle park. I think you mean that one. The basement has tracks we think that that is where one of the tunnels started so I don't think it was a mine. I think it was a tunnel that was probably being blasted.
@@downtoearthexploring589 Maxx, we have a copy of the deed to the mine if that would help. Also, of course, If you are interested in seeing it. Thanks Bob
