It’s called the Azorius SENATE for a reason, they keep getting away with it because it says so right there in the fine print

Seeing Frogmite, Myr enforcer and Thoughtcast, my reaction (as someone who was there 3000 years ago) was : "So affinity in pauper is actually just the original affinity deck from Mirrodin ? Kinda makes sense."

As someone who committed to playing this exact deck about a month ago, every word of this video is entirely correct. I will be tax evading my way to victory just to spite green ramp players and I will not be stopped by something as silly as a ‘very small mana base’.
Now me personally, the real tax evasion is Pauper Evoke with Ephemerate and Angelic Renewal, cos when the Mulldrifter makes it through the IRS screening and Ephemerate comes off rebound, it feels like the check bounced so hard now THEY owe YOU money.

Do people use Blitzwing as their general? I've normally seen him in the 99 of Megatron and (rarely) Starscream/Sheoldred. Plus, I imagine that Slicer and Ratchet would be the characters he could get the most mileage from.

I made a 60 deck WAY back when with this in mind. All 0 drop arts and affinity all to drop metalwork colossus on turn idk 4 if you’re lucky.

Surprised he didn’t mention Paradise Mantle, unless that card is banned from this format (wouldn’t know as I don’t play pauper), but for 0 mana costing and only 1 mana equipping cost, any equipped creature can become a bird of paradise.
That's not a common rarity in any of its printings

Would it be better to cast say ornithopther only to counter it with An Offer You Can’t Refuse just to get higher affinity with artifacts?
Edit: nope never mind, it wont work. That counter spell is not legal for pauper.
You’d go down too much on cards and lose an emergency blocker even though it would be better for mana/artifacts

02:20 ...If all birds are robots, then does this mean all dinosaurs were robots too or...? Regardless, it's funny how Affinity is *still* one of the less "cheaty" decks in Pauper between stuff like Ephemerate/Familiars, Moggwarts, Reanimator, and Tron.
(The indestructible artifact dual lands are still pretty dumb, but "pretty dumb" is part for the course with Modern Horizons cards.)

Yes, the best one is azorius familiars, basically you counter stuff, blink stuff and draw a lot with an added late game combo
Oh hell yeah pauper has control. Some of the best control cards ever printed are in common. "Draft chaff threats, legacy removal," that's the pauper way. And we've got cards like ponder, preordain and brainstorm. The format probably leans aggro overall, though. But that just means not having to put up with the control mirror as much, now, doesn't it?
Caw-Gates is the best control deck atm. Remember Caw-Blade standard? It’s basically that (4 squadron hawks, all the counterspells) but Basilisk gate instead of the Swords, and actual factual Brainstorm instead of Jace the Mind Sculptor

Hmmm, does mono black have any good archetypes these days in pauper? Last I checked, devotion is dead at this point and no decks use my favorite black common, Corrupt, in the meta.
It just got Dread Return from Command Masters giving it two super efficient reanimates. Also got a zombie giant that gives it another reanimate target. Don’t know if the deck is meta but it’s got some play.
@@kusanagi54321Seems interesting because originally the only good options were Exhume and Unearth as far as reanimate spells (Rise Again cost almost as much as what you would cast for its targets). In theory, Grey Merchant of Asphodel fits into a mono black reanimator shell perfectly, but keeping the black pips to fire off with it can be tricky.
There is a mono-Black deck based around some of the new Food cards that was going around a few weeks ago. I am unsure how it's been faring though.
Golgari Gardens is putting up results, it’s a mostly-Black deck splashing green for Avenging Hunter (one of only 3 legal initiative cards), using Khalni Garden as its main green land. No Corrupts usually, but you do get to play Crypt Rats and Defile
@@janmelantu7490 Defile looks like a straight upgrade to Disfigure and Typhoid rats (though one could argue for Serrated Scorpion in the 1 drop category). Crypt Rats seems to, like Pestilence, require you have sufficient lifegain to offset the self-imposed damage, otherwise you are helping your opponent as much,if not more, than yourself.
Corrupt is not people’s first choice, I know, because its 6cmc is very much mid to late game, but in my time in Alchemy on Arena, once I had the mana to cast it, my opponents health total was low enough to cast only one or two at the most to close the game out. Not always the choice in black decks, but since it is both heal and damage, a potent one never the less.
I feel like this format would also work for league of legends characters
