Another great video Glenn! I am downloading the app as I type this lol. I can't believe how sad it is that we can't even take a picture of stars without the satellites in our way now. There are so many of them. Thanks Elon!
believe it or not but with a reflector and a mobile phone and a tracker you can capture really beautiful deep-sky objects or planets depending on the focal length of the reflector
I have taken some good images of the moon with a 130pds and my phone. I have seen examples of nebulae taken in good detail this way too but I have not attempted that yet.
Awesome!! This Is Exactly a Video I want for Phone Astrophotography, I too use a Cellphone for Imaging, Since I dont have a Good Astro Camera Just Yet!! Well Done, Clear Skies🌌
Hi. Just found your very informative video, I would like to ask a dumb question, surely by touching the shutter button on the phone to take a photo you will get blur, or is there a delay after you have pressed the shutter ?
I was using Huawei nova seven I 7 am before using iPhone 12 for extra photography but the android result was better. I don't know whether I am a new with iPhone 12 that is why I'm not getting it desired results or do you think iPhone 12 is good for photography thank you
Great video, really helpful. Just a query, the app seems to close iself after about 30 seconds, is this normal or can it be set to remain open as the normal iPhone camera does? Tried loads of searches on this but cannot find any answer....
Hi and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Thats strange that it is closing. I use it on an iphone 12 and it stays open all the while I am using it. Do you have a screen saver set on your phone so it shuts off if you are not touching the screen after 30secs? The built in camera app may override this but not realise the nightcap app is the same thing. Let me know if this works. Happy New Year.
Hi Danielle and thank you. I would love to grab images of the Aurora someday. I do not think there is a specific setting but a long exposure set with this should capture it well. I would try the star mode though as that might work too
It can seem confusing at first. I can try and help if you have a more specific question, otherwise just play about with it and you should hopefully work it out. There are tutorials inside the App also that will help guide you. Good luck
I will try it on my iPad, I am considering getting an iPhone and old models have better prices of course, do you think this app could fill the gap for night camera mode of the latest models?? I have never had an iphone
I think the app will certainly help with night photography. Obviously the newer phones have better optics but the Apps help unlock potential in older models
Is there a setting where I can make it so it takes multiple photos in a row? Because doing it manually is a pain, if there is could you tell me where I can find it? Thanks!
I wanted to ask you, in the app we talk about the shutter, but what do you use? because i don't think there is a lightining shutter for iPhone. from the image they look like headphones, can it be? and secondly, what is that square icon under the brightness for in the settings? thank you
Hi Davide. I have not seen the remote shutter control thats shown in the diagram. Not sure even if its available. I think you can use the apple watch as a remote trigger though. it seems to blur things a little but would have to search up its true function, its like it softens the sharp levels
Hi Patrick. There is no auto mode for this so use the long exposure settings. A good starting point when photographing the northern lights is: aperture f/2.8, ISO 1600 (increase if it's very dark) and 15 seconds shutter speed. Keep in mind that if the aurora is very active (i.e. dances quickly), you need to shorten the shutter speed (up the iso to compensate)
Night cap is a good app but its not free... Do you recommend this app for iphone 12 simple(not pro/pro max)?? Is this app all what you need for good night pics?
Its not free but it does cover a lot of astro style pictures. Long exp, timelapse. Star trails. I have the iphone 12pro and although that takes good night images the app makes it better
I have had good results from mine but I think there are now newer cameras with much better abilities. The Google pixel and Later samsungs actually have built in Astro features
Great video. I don't know why but every time i try a star trail exposure, the ISO is constantly changing even though I set it lower. It just means that my photo is super bright and the stars are really faint. Is there any way I can "lock" the ISO to stop it changing?
You would have to set it all manually in the settings tab. So set it up to do a timelapse with long exposures and then manually set iso etc, the star trails seems to work ok for me. Do you have a lot of light pollution?
Thank you. For a nebula you would need to us long exposure. Mid to high Iso, around 30sec exposure. You would need to take as many as you could and then stack them in a program like deep sky stacker which is free. For your best chance you would need to find some nice dark skies with little or no light pollution
@@jakarie4301 yes that is perfectly possible with the long exposure settings in the gear tab. My iphone 12 can take the lights without the app so depends which you have to whether you would need the app or not
Brilliantly done
Thank you

Looking closer I think they are planes. The airport is that way. I'll have to travel to the other side of it to get a clean startrail shot of polaris

hi, going to do a video next on using a phone with binoculars/telescopes. You can achieve surprisingly good results
Hi. Just found your very informative video, I would like to ask a dumb question, surely by touching the shutter button on the phone to take a photo you will get blur, or is there a delay after you have pressed the shutter ?
Thank you. Its not dumb at all and a good point. The app delays taking of an image by a few seconds so things have time to settle.

It is good but not used the Huawei Nova so I am unable to compare and comment sorry
Good video, will try this out for sure
Thats great. Its a very good app actually
Thank u for sharing your experience with this App. I got it to try out .... Sending Clear Skies from the Bronx NYC ....🚫☁️
you're welcome. It works well especially if you can get to some nice dark skies. clear skies my friend
Amazing video thank you 🙏

Should I use airline mode when taking pictures? Probably!
i Have had images of star trails and timelapses destroyed by a phone call so best to be on do not disturb or airplane mode. Good thinking
Excellent
Many thanks, good luck
Great videos... can I use this app with iPhone SE 2020 or iphone 8?
As long as your phone is running ios 11 or later then Night cap will work for your phone unlocking its potential for night time photography
Great video! Is there a away/setting to capture the aurora with this app?

Great vid! do you know what setting might work well for planetary viewing through a telescope with the app?
I have not done any planetary but they are quite bright and so would be on lower iso and shorter exp settings.

Hi, if you click the gear icon at the top of the screen it goes to a setting page. In there is an interval programmer where you can set that up
Thank you so much!
