Kader Tarhanine - Live at Afrika Festival Hertme
date of performance - July 2, 2023
Kader Tarhanine, the new jewel of modern Tuareg music, is the artist young people in the Sahara listen to the most. He embodies novelty, youthfulness and natural talent. He became known in 2012 with the song 'Tarhanine Tegla' or 'My love is gone'. He has Malian parents (from Menaka and Timbuktu), was born in Niger but grew up in Tamanrasset (southern Algeria).
For that reason, his musical orientation is intercultural with musicians from Algeria and Mali. He is inspired by the rich repertoire of this Sahel-Saharan region and lives between the two countries.
By mixing traditional rhythms with rock influences, together with lyrics inspired by Sahel poetry and Arabic poetry, Kader's music is sung by Tuaregs around the world. In 2018, his latest album 'Ikewane' ('Roots') was recorded at Salif Keita's Moffou studio in Bamako. Ikewane is a hymn of love, unity and peace. It is also a call against clandestine emigration and advocates the development of the Sahara.
Adama Dramé was born in Nouna, Burkina-Faso, in 1954. He is the sixth generation of a family of musicians and griot storytellers from Malinké culture. At the age of twelve he turned professional thanks to his father, a griot Djéli from father to son.
In 1978, he was one of the first djembolas to play in Europe, introducing the world to his culture, his history and his talent, which has since become mythical.
This master of the djembe knows the rhythms of West Africa down to the last detail. He has also found his place in contemporary music and combines his rhythms with those of other traditions.
