  • My Can Am Commander stock tires were 14" Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 Tires 27x11x14, and 27x9x14.
    I put over 6700 km (4200 miles) on them and I felt they were great all terrain tires. They wore well, were durable, comfortable and stylish.

    Great review! I like to run my stock tires to death before upgrading too... Flyin Brian's RZR Turbo Dynamix came with these and he shredded a sidewall at about 700 miles. I'm glad you included the concerns and different experiences. Great tread pattern, the original Bighorns are tougher, but 4200 miles is outstanding for any off-road tire! Great point about directional tread patterns handling speed better, I agree 100%

    Great review. I have recommended BigHorns to almost everyone considering new tires. On my RZR S I had the original BigHorns. Sold it after 7,800 hard km's driving around SE New Brunswick and not a single flat. Other than the sharp square corners of the knobs when new being slightly rounded, the knobs we're pretty close to same depth. A friend bought a RZR S with BigHorns when mine had 6000 kms and they looked quite similar. Without a doubt I would buy BigHorns again. Never knew the 3.0's were out as I have been away for a few years but look forward to your review on that. On my Outlander Max 850 XT-P I have Terra Cross tires as stock and they seem to be doing well also. At around the 1500 km mark I picked up a nail. Plugged that and rode 700 kms since trouble free. It sure is nice when your new atv comes stock with a descent tire and no need to fork out a bunch more money on rubber. Great vid.

    I had the Yamaha branded BH 2.0(2p/F 4p/R) on my Wolverine R-spec with 9psi on all four corners. I got 4500 miles from them with ZERO punctures and good wear with all the various trail conditions Maine has to offer. The Wolverine crowd couldn’t believe I got that type of longevity from them as most would have one or two destroyed within 500 miles. I ran the 27” Sedona Coyotes for 1600 miles last year and really enjoyed them save lackluster performance in slick muddy conditions. I just purchased a Wolverine X2 along with the original Maxxis Bighorns in the 27” size. I shall see how well they do. There’s lots of good tire choices available, I say stick with what works best for you, “popular” or not.

    Got to agree with you on these tires, Run the 2.0 on my XP 550 since 2011 with very little problems. I then changed to the 3.0 in 29" on same bike love the difference in handling. I just got a 2016 850 SP Tour and put the 29" on it again happy. As said best all round tire IMP. Mike S.

    Great video, I was referred to your channel from Maritimers channel on his 1.0 review. Great to see that you got lots of mileage out of them! I have a set of 27 knock offs that I’ve ran for about 3 years so far on my 07 Brute Force 650i that were used to begin with an I’m throughly impressed with those. When I go to replace, I’d like to get a set of comparable big horns. It seems that we have similar driving styles so I’ll definitely that your review into consideration when purchasing! Thanks and take care!

    I grew up on very soft atv tires on machines with little or no suspension, three wheels, with little cargo capacity. Now, I drive a machine that is much lighter and smaller than yours, at much lower speeds, as terrain allows. Some people who ride where I do might call me a "wimp," I say I wish to preserve our trails which tend to be soft and fragile. Maybe some of those riders might move back home... maybe not enough of those tough guys.
    Anyway: My attitude, as you might have guessed, is to "tread lightly." I want maximum traction with least slippage and damage to the ground. I have muskeg and river silt, some rocks, not mud. I want my trails to last. The land is hard to move through at speed, although some jerks think they can. I'm loosing that fight, I think. Maybe to the point that SXS and ATV may be outlawed.
    Too many idiots don't get it or don't care: No one can use the trail you destroyed, and everyone will hate you for destroying it.
    Anyway... Bighorn 1, vs 2.0 have different sizes, which is better? You like the 3.0 (I watched that video too) because it had front directional tread. I run light and slow. Same size front vs rear makes sense not only for traction, but for pragmatic reasons (any failed tire is the same size as a spare).
    I notice that much of the terrain you drive on looks like regional roads, at fairly high speed. Why not just drive your truck? My Land Cruiser is slower than much of your video, but it's road legal, and it can haul much more than any Can-Am, and in a heated space.
    It seems like as creature-creep seeps into our road vehicles, they become less capable of basic off road performance.
    I digress. Your SxS is very heavy, powerful, and fast. Can you translate your experience for those of us who ride light and slow?
    I like your attitude, you don't seem condescending to people who don't ride like you do, this is why I'm commenting on your channel..
    Can you direct me to someone in the know regarding my requirements? BTW, I bought a set of like-sized bighorn 2.0 tires. It's been an age, and they haven't yet arrived. Maybe I'll be the test mule this summer... if they ever get here.

    • @EastCoastATV
      @EastCoastATV  3 года назад

      You can't go wrong with Bighorn 2.0 tires, they are a fantastic all-around tire. You won't tear anything up if you're riding at a relaxed pace, unless you get stuck and must power your way out, but I think there would be minimal damage. You'll have all kinds of great grip with them, and you'll get lots of wear out of them too.
      I drive dirt roads if I must, but I'd rather be on trails. Don't let the videos fool you, most of our riding is trails. I don't always have my camera on when we ride trails because many viewers on RUclips don't like watching us drive slowly so I'll cut in the parts where we were moving quicker and leave the slow stuff out. Watching the videos may give you the impression we are always driving 60-80 km/h but most of our riding is much slower.
      I think people should drive however they like as long as it's reasonable, safe, and respectful to others. People don't always agree on what's reasonable and safe though. I may drive faster than someone else on the same trail, but it certainly doesn't mean I'm driving in an unsafe manner. But I certainly have witnessed people driving too fast for specific trail conditions, driving beyond their abilities, and driving unsafe machines with bald tires, bad brakes etc. It's usually the same 1-3% of people. I don't think taking trails access away from most people that follow the rules is fair. The people tearing up trails are going to do it whether they're allowed on trails or not.
      I drove ATV's for a long time before buying my Commander. I drove those slower mostly because the centre of gravity is higher and they are not as stable as a SxS and there's no seat belt, or roll cage protecting a person. Even when I was driving my ATV's slower I always had fun. My side by side is not really that heavy. It's about 1400 pounds, much lighter than a Jeep. Driving a side by side is a much different experience than an ATV, and sometimes I miss driving them but there is too much convenience with a side by side for me to switch back. Being able to have another person and carry more gear easily is a bonus. Side by Sides are so much more stable and comfortable than an ATV you easily find yourself driving more quickly over the same terrain than you would drive an ATV over. There really is no comparison to driving a side by side and a motor vehicle like a Land Cruiser. I could drive my Commander over a rocky rutted road at 40 km/h where the Land Cruiser could only do 10 km/h without damaging it because the suspension is just not set up for that.
      Thanks for your message, I hope you like your new tires and have great luck with them.

      @@EastCoastATV Thank you for your thoughtful response. My attitude is slightly different.
      I drive a light SxS not as a "big ATV," but as a "small 4x4."
      I have several reasons for this attitude.
      First, I can't really justify even an modern 4x4 ATV, they're just so ridiculous (When I was young, the Honda Big Red 250 was the really big machine!)
      Second, although you can't really "ride" a 4-wheel atv the way you could ride a 3-wheeler, it's not quite as limited as a SxS in terms of "body english" having a control input.
      Third, I'm not as physically able as I was once, and my passenger is usually geriatric, literally. So, cargo, not help, in so far as control or recovery is concerned.
      It's better for me to think, for the time being, that my little sxs is a "small jeep" rather than a "big ATV." This may change as my needs and capabilities do, but this is where I am now.
      Just now, I'm very annoyed that local shops don't provide some basic kit that would cost as much to ship as it would be to buy if I went online. The 36" Hi-Lift jack, for example. Or just about any Hi-Lift accessory, like mounting equipment, weather protection, or storage. I can buy 20 48" High-Lift jacks locally.... I already have one, for the afore mentioned Land Cruiser.
      I want a three foot Hi-Lift, the little storage box with a tree-saver, wd-40, other goodies, and the tube mount. Also, a 3 foot spade shovel, and a 3 foot ax, both with fiberglass handles and tool/metal covers. Not a hard ask, you'd think, right?
      Right? Ugh.

    We're your 2.0 8ply or six? I'm looking at traxion gripper which is another rip off, of the bignorn, it's 8 ply for my midsize to replace the absolute garbage Carlisle it came with, third time out punctured a hole in them. Super disappointing, considering cost of machine. This was yesterday. Also looking at a ITP Evolution, which is way more aggressive. Both get good reviews, mostly trail riding here in Bc, mountainous where u do encounter shale from time to time. Cheers and thanks.

    • @EastCoastATV
      @EastCoastATV  3 года назад +1

      The Bighorn 2.0 is a six ply tire. Most stock tires are light weight unfortunately. I had a friend buy a set of Blackwater Evolutions and he hated them. He bought a new set before we went on a week trip and he had three flats during the week, all on the same tire. He replaced that one when we got home and he said the tires wore out really fast, and we mostly do trail riding on hard pack type trails. Sometimes getting a flat comes down to bad luck.

    Yeah no go on these for me crap. I was gonna buy a set of 4 for 500 bucks brand new off of EBay but all I ride in is sharp rocks coal country Pa anthracite. I’m thinking about trying the gbc Terra Masters 26x11x14 in rears 26x9x14 in front their 10 ply I’m just worried on how those will do in the occasional soft muddy ground. Where I ride it either all rock ,coal or soft muddy dirt. I’m thinking Terra masters because of the 10 ply rating or Dirt Commanders. 2.0 8 ply rating. I hate picking tires
