Thank you. It was the buffer size that was making it impossible to hear my scores. I didn't know about this setting before. Mine was set to 32 for some reason. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for preparing this helpful video. It occurred to me that given that some people using your helpful service might be visually impaired, it would be very helpful to state exactly what option you are pointing at rather than to just point and say "Choose this one." Not everyone will know what "this" means unless you say it. Not a critique; just an observation. Thanks.
I recommend contacting Make Music support if these tips haven't solved your problem. Unfortunately there are many other reasons that audio might not work. this video only addresses some of the more common reasons.
I wish I had found Dorico or Sibelius as over the years, MakeMusic has done little to develop Finale. For example, the rim shot in the drum kits is a duplication of the snare and not a rim shot at all. Many exotic instruments are listed in the library but are represented by a basic one, which is fraudulent. Prior to version 26, the program was very unstable. Its greatest weakness is erratic playback of guitar: add glissandos or bends and the MIDI data must be cleared, especially for Garritan instruments. Most VST plug-ins are not fully compatible. But Finale still is capable of rendering some amazing things. When playback of an instrument becomes erratic--Garritan or SoftSynth--I clear the MIDI data. Doing so helps most of the time. Is there anything else that can be done to restore glissandos and guitar bends when they fail to play back?
Hello Thank you for your interesting and detailed comment. I have cleared meditator multiple times as well, but with regard to. fixing Guitar Player back I haven’t found any magic bullet. I just sometimes restart the entire computer. As you probably noticed if you leave Finale on in the background for too long, say more than a few hours weird stuff starts to happen because it’s church to build up strange things in the cache, personally, I am thinking of switching over to Dorko because I’ve heard great things about it but I haven’t had the time to really teach myself that program yet it’s too bad that Finale has not been more improved of the years. It wasn’t originally invented by musician, invented by people who are Pakistan publishing, so it’s never been designed to be friendly to musicians and composers from the ground up. I think that’s the biggest problem that has not been addressed anyway best wishes in your physical journey and if I do switch over to Dorko I’ll start putting videos about that program on the channel.
@@Jazztao Thanks for sharing your valuable insight. I might try adding Note Performer, but that requires updating Finale to v27. My solution to Finale's limited drum kit sounds and other sample deficits is to create the percussion in Hydrogen (free but excellent, and easy to customize) then import the track as an audio clip. The also free Tunefish synth with lots of great sounds works with Finale, albeit the playbayck volume must by controlled in the VST bank. MakeMusic admits that Finale can only handle one or two 3rd party plug-ins at one time. I mix down all in Audacity...sometimes quantize in Ableton Live.
I had soo much trouble with playback suddenly in wondows 10. I disabled permission to the microphone and when i hit playback the curser froze and various settings were greyed out I finally reset permission to the mic to finale and now its ok even if the input is not that mic ? Really strange
That is bizarre indeed. Sometimes stuff Make Music people have specific knowledge of these weird anomalies and are working on them. They’re trying to ramp up their customer support so you can always contact him about that.
Some great tips! I'm having an issue I've not experience before (and I've been using Finale since it was invented). Playback works fine, but there is no sound when I am entering notes (Speedy entry, using the computer keyboard). Any tips on how to get it working? (And yes, I've tried re-loading). Thanks!
This is a terrific condensed video of understanding playback options - Thank you!!
Thank you! Was struggling with my volume at playback and you helped me solve it. Great resource here.
Glad it helped!
Buffer size. I had no idea what that was. I've been looking for fixes for hours. THANK YOU!
Though your newer video doesn't mention the buffer size (in my opinion it should)

A very good point and I appreciate you bringing it up. I’ll try to do better in that regard in the future.
I've watched the video and done everything (I, too, had buffer, seemingly by default, at 32) but I'm still not getting any sound on playback.

Just upgraded to Finale 27 - ukulele playback would not work. This tutorial fixed my issues. Thank you!

I can't change the volume when using Finale. I have mac...and this just started, it won't even mute when I press mute on my laptop
