    The CCD-F500e was my favourite Video8 camcorder (composite video + mono audio) after the F330e and F340e / CCD-SP5. Elco's where an issue 2 years after release of these camcorders. Common failure was also loosening the tapeguides in both directions. The most reliable camorders regarding elco's where the early models CCD-M8, M10, V30, V50, V90, V95 and the EVC-X10. Repaired all Video8/Hi8 camcorders up untill the CCD-V800e for Sony Netherlands (employee 1983-2010)

    I would honestly get totally overwhelmed with all the boards and wires and capacitors so major props to you for being able to completely restore it

      Thanks for watching the videos and the comment, really appreciate it. It was overwhelming at times the amount of board and wires there were, especially towards the end when putting it all back together.

    This was a painstaking job, well done! In my hands it would break into pieces the moment I started disassembling it. Now you need to up the ante and restore a V5000 or V6000 :-) These are as close to pro camcorders as consumer video could get at that time. The video is also done very well! Subscribed.

    Wow!! I was waiting for this forever, amazing you got it fully working now, this is so rare to see in 2022! most tech’s don’t even wanna touch old camcorders because it takes too much time. Now I will assume the answer for this will be negative but by any chance are you interested to sell that camera or do you have any that you can recap and sell? I’m looking for a good manual zoom manual focus video8 Camcorder/Hi8 camcorder, I am in Canada and out here there are no techs willing to touch old Camcorders. It appears as you have the love to repair these camcorders with a lot of patience. Well done, you sir are a genius!

      Thanks for watching all the parts of the restoration VCR Guy, really appreciate it. Regarding your question, outside of making these videos, my day job is a videographer and I wanted to buy a CCD camcorder for experimental-type short films. I might look at doing more restoration videos on other vintage camcorders in the future, which I could look at selling on if the restoration goes to plan but I will have to look into it. Thanks again. 🙂

    I assume this guide will work for all these series camcorders, and any differences between PAL and NTSC will be obvious to the eye? I have several of these and love them, and have been looking high and low to find a walkthrough on what they need, where and why. Thank you for doing this, i hope more of the people watching this will put the work into theirs, these units are worth it.

    This 3 part series was AMAZING. Thank you for taking the time. I learned a TON here as well watching your general solder removal techniques used in very tricky areas. I had 2 questions. The first was, do these camcorders have rubber belts used anywhere like traditional analog audio, or are they direct drive type/ geared only? My second question is on the cleaner spray you used. I’m in the USA, are you referring to what we would call DeOxit? or perhaps 70% rubbing alcohol? I didn’t want to guess or google on that one and instead, check directly with the pro since you used a lot of it very effectively i should add.

    They are great videos about camcorder restoration, I believe it took a lot of time and nerve, Just wonder is any camcorder of that age would suffer the leaking cap problem, or it could be affected by intensity of previous use and storage condition.
    Thanks for the video series.

    Congratulations on your perseverance and patience! Huge amount of work to do. I'm not surprised that the services do not want to undertake repairs. There will come a day when your camera will be one of the few working.

    Hello! Can you please tell me which caoacitors i should replace? Whenever i turn my camera (sony ccd-f350E) on the viewfinder displays static. Should i just replace the viewfinder capacitors?

    • @theretropal
      @theretropal  2 года назад +1

      Hi, I would recommend you first use the composite port and plug the camcorder into your TV. This will determine whether the issue is the viewfinder or the main boards on the camcorder.
      If you do get an image on your TV (set in camera mode), then it's likely the viewfinder caps which need to be replaced, however, majority of all CCD camcorders have capacitors which are now leaking and need replacing and it most likely the same case with your camcorder too.
      The capacitors values however, will be different compared to this video, due to the model number.
      Hope this helps.
