Indonesia is a hidden jewel and an underrated Muslim nation. It's a magnificent nation and a power house of Islam. They have rich sultanate periods and great history of kicking out the invader Dutch. I have deep love for Indonesian people.

I’m Australian and my wife is Indonesian and for the reasons you mentioned, you mentioned the life style and modernisation is not like the west,no it’s not but as far as I’m concerned it’s better.
I would rather live in Indonesia than Australia any day of the week,I love the culture which is void of the western idea and that’s a bonus.

you have been deceived by a woman who worships stones. Islam in Indonesia has begun to decline. Many Indonesians no longer secretly believe in Islam.
Been living in Indonesia about 5 years and my comment about the country is that, the people are all very kind and friendly. In term of welcoming tourists or strangers, without hesitation they'll definitely welcome you without prejudice, so far what I feel. Islam is not like most of medias in the west been talking about, they're nowhere close to the the west description about Islam and Muslim. They're very open, exceptionally friendly and helping, not helpful as in I need or use them for my benefit or something, no. The culture is shockingly different, I'm from Monaco and there's no call to prayer there, I might don't even know if Muslim live in my country 😅. Mosques everywhere and many times always filled with people, unity or solely for resting a while. I can talk about a book long about Indonesia and the indonesian, but that's my opinion about them. For sure there are some negative reviews, every country has it, but the positive review is beyond and incomparable to the cons

In general Indonesians are one of the most friendliest ppl in the world. They are helpful and caring even to strangers.
This is why people in the west should travel to muslim majority countries to see it with their own eyes how we Muslim live our life. How muslims women live their lives. Wearing hijab is our own decision. It's actually liberated us.

Our Parents always teach us to be humble and not to live Hedonism Lifestyle, eventhough we have the money.
Most of our Grandparents were born before Indonesian Independence Day, and they couldn’t have education because of Netherland Colonization’s Apartheid Policy.
Our Grandparents have worked so hard to send all of their Childrens to study in University.
I’m grateful that My Mom & Dad, and all of their Siblings, They were Graduated from University, eventhough My Grandparents didn’t have University degree.

It doesnt matter if it's Shafi'i or Hanafi or Maliki or Hanbali school. Or even other school of jurisprudence. What matter is the right aqidah. Aqidah that follow Al-Quran and hadith, which is why we a called Ahlussunah & jamaah, which encompasses all 4 school of jurisprudence.

Indonesian women are not forced to wear hijab. Many muslimah wear headscarves because of their own choice, not by family or community coercion or by law. they are free to make their own choices, including me 😄

Sebenernya yg bikin Indonesia damai itu bukan islam. Tapi Pancasila. Indonesia bukan cuma islam aja, tp ada 6 agama yg diakui pemerintah.
Di negara lain, gak ada itu pancasila sila kedua "Kemanusiaan yg adil & beradab"
Gak ada juga pancasila sila ketiga "persatuan" atau unity.
Apalagi musyawarah/mufakat & keadilan sosial.
Kita kan orang indo dari kecil selain diajarin agama menurut agama orang tua kita, kita juga diajarin sejarah bangsa ini. Dan juga pancasila yg mendasari kehidupan bermasyarakat negara ini. Makanya sebelum apapun itu, rata² orang Indonesia mengutamakan kemanusiaan. Di luar negri, kl lu gak cantik/ganteng, minimal lu berprestasi & terkenal atau kaya raya. Kalo enggak sama sekali, fix lu orang buangan. Nah kl di Indonesia, kita gak bisa kayak gitu. Terlepas apapun agama kita, di kota mana kita dibesarkan. Kita gak bisa memperlakukan orang lain seperti orang buangan. Krn kita juga hidup bermasyarakat. Rata² orang Indonesia juga EQ nya tinggi. Walau IQ mgkn rendah.

Pernah dengar pidato bung tomo ? ratusan ribu jiwa meninggal hanya dalam beberapa hari dan walaupun perang terjadi ,azan tetap berkumandang dan ternyata pasukan inggris pun banyak yang muslim alhasil mereka malah ikut membantu pasukan Indonesia. Dalam beberapa bulan kemudian inggris angkat kaki , 2 jendral yang menjadi pahlawan di perang dunia tewas di surabaya dan belanda pun menyerah dan mengakui kemerdekaan Indonesia.

Sheikh Yusuf Estes once visited Indonesia and during his stay, in one of his public lecture he kept mentioning about how he couldn't stop drinking coffee to the point he had less water intake due to his frequent coffee consumption. I don't remember the details, but I still have the impression that he didn't know what to do when he gets back to the U-S and there won't be Indonesian coffee there.
I my self not a coffee lover or enthusiast, but I know for the fact different place/region(/province in Indonesia would give different taste of coffee which each of them can compete with each other in taste.

as an Indonesian myself, Islam is pretty much internalised altogether with local cultures in many areas in Indonesia. We know that we could have and embrace both identities as a muslim and as an Indonesian. I think that is how it should go in every different part of the world. Islam is inevitably one, but muslims culturally diverse from one area to another. and Islam is never meant to wipe-off one's cultural identity or ethnicity.

@@Mkarsun in Islam, everything the wife earns and owns are hers and hers alone. She does not have to spend it for the family, even her children.
The husband is the sole provider to the family, even if the wife is richer than him. The husband shall provide food, clothes, and home to the family, and provide a separate provisions for the wife's personal needs. The responsibility for the children is on the husband, even when divorced. Until they reach adulthood.
The wife must obey the husband as the leader of the family. She may donate her income to the family, but not as provision but as donation.
Although all the above are mentioned in the Quran, most Muslim men do not realise this. Western culture have "shared income" for married couple or partnership, which is not according to Islam.

I'm Indonesian muslim woman, born and live in Yogyakarta, Java islands.. Now I'am a general pediatrician (soon to be consultant), my sister is veterinary med.. we live freely to wear hijabs (or not) and we're permitted to decide and choose what hobby, husband, jobs, etc.. we can drive motorcycle and car.. and yess we equally get education and opportunities like men

where you from? I suggest you to have Indonesian online friends before you visited because Indonesia is a very large country, unless you have a specific place/ city to visit such as Jakarta or Bali.

As an Indonesian Muslim girl, from childhood we were always taught that whatever food we get we must be grateful because there are many people out there who are hungry.
Our people are not as rich and live luxuriously as the west, but even though we live with our families.
I'm English and I was taught the same by my parents and nobody I knew growing up was rich. Far from it in fact. I'm taking care of my Mum who has Alzheimer's disease.

me indonesian who spent couple of years for studying in europe, they once told me not to smile a lot or simply just smile as needed, that was hard, it was hard saying hello with a straight face, i had once a bouquet of flower sended in front of my door from anonymous person and it said on its card that he/she loved my smile, but i must say the european are also friendly they like to have small talk actually, but the tense is little bit higher specially when u making mistakes

I’m muslim Indonesian.. honestly I don’t relate with Middle East. Their Islamic experience is completely different to us. All the women in my circle were not wearing hijab until 2010s, and no men told them or authorities forced them to wear it and now more women wearing hijab. Besides the religious side, it has become one of many beauty standards here.

Menurut hadits, jumlah nabi sekitar 124.000 dan jumlah rasul sekitar 312-315. Bisa jadi yg orang2 sebut Budha atau Dewa2 sebenarnya nabi tapi ajaran nya berubah seiring waktu oleh pengikutnya

As an Indonesia, it has more to do with the society than with the religion. Only in Indonesia Muslim Woman wield so much power in the family system, other societies where Islam is the pillar, female are treated as 2nd Class citizen, in Indonesia it's pretty much equal, even sometimes Women are put on a pedestal and revered instead of men, and the men are not pre-occupied with proving their masculinity by "overpowering" women. It's more of an Asian thing rather than Islamic thing (btw my mom is a Muslim since she remarried but I am not, and she is considerably less liberated than before she remarry in my opinion).

Islam in indonesia is mixed wil local, Hindu/Buddhist and Kejawan tradtions. It's version of Islam is not really the same as you see in middle-east, because Indonesian values is based on the Majapahit Hindu values of "Bhineka tungkal ika" which is from the Hindu Rig Veda verse 1.164.46 "Truth is one, sages call it by various names."
Well... I'm Indonesian and I didn't know that we're actually that 'nice' and 'happy'. Not sure if it's actually exaggerated since it's a normal thing. Maybe because... We openly welcome guests, especially from abroad. Just don't openly insult Islam (or Muslim prominent figures), don't openly say that you're from Israel or support zionism, etc... or simply just mind your words and you'll be alright. Otherwise, you'll find out the not-so-nice side of us. :)
It's not a perfect country though. Of course, crimes also exist here in Indonesia. Not to mention heavy traffic jams, etc.
Unity, tolerance, conflict avoidance, preparation to live in the hereafter, and 'We culture' instead of 'I culture' are continuously promoted and taught here in Indonesia. Maybe that's the case.
