    You are allowed up to two shunts from the moment you start the reverse exercise. This will count as one minor fault. Take a shunt if you need to. Do not let the trailer jack knife AT ALL.Try and leave one of the shunts for the bay area before you carry out your review. Hope this helps.

    This is the greatest money making racket ever thought up ,firstly the cut off date for the requirements is totally arbitrary in the UK it's 1996 while here in Ireland it's 1990 so you have to pay for eye test, a theory test a new provisional licence plus the test itself and maybe a lesson or two because we all know being able to drive and passing the test are two totally different things. I am from an agricultural background and can and have sat on many weigh bridges with a tractor and trailer combination tipping the scale at thirty tons with my current licence and that's perfectly legal even an artic trailer on a dolly but if I put more than 750 behind my jeep I'm breaking the law

      Same situation in South Africa. I chose to do a Code 14 which is a UK equivalent of C+E because of my agricultural background. The tests are not bad.

    Neil, thanks for this guidance. I'm considering taking my test to be able to trailer my wife's track car to and from events. Your videos have helped me to gain an understanding of what sort of things the test involves.
    If you have chance to reply, I have a question about the coupling/uncoupling part. Where you are required to hoist the trailer onto the towing ball, what provisions if any are given for a person who may physically struggle with shifting the weight of the trailer?
    I'm sure it's an improper way to do it, but to avoid shifting the weight of a ladened trailer by hand before, I've observed a person at a race track raising the trailer enough to maneuver the towing ball of their vehicle underneath the hitch of the trailer. Whilst it was affective for the lady, who had no chance of moving the trailer under her own power, I suspected at the time it was improper and subsequently wondered if any provisions were made for such people unable to move the trailer due to build, injury or disability?
    Thanks for your time posting these videos and replying to comments. Very decent of you.

      Tom Clarke Thank you for your feedback on the videos. I am glad they have given you a better understanding of the test.
      Regarding your point about manoeuvring the trailer... once you have uncoupled the hitch will be above the tow ball of the vehicle in any case. The examiners expect you to be able to pull the trailer over the tow-ball. You cannot reverse the vehicle back and hit the hitch area (fail) but it is important to get as close to the hitch to avoid excessive pulling of the trailer. It can be difficult to manoeuvre the trailer but I have never had a candidate fail on this aspect due to slight build or injury. The test centres I use have nice level tarmac areas allowing easy pulling. In reality it may be more difficult due to uneven surfaces etc. The examiners in my experience have always given candidates plenty of time to carry out this aspect of the test. I hope I have answered you question?
      Good luck with any test to be taken.

    Great video - thanks. Are you just allowed one review to get out and check the distance from the stopping board? So if you get back in and reverse a little bit more to get in, is that a minor?
    Is the distance of that front cone (that ends up near the front wheel) based on the figure you give them when you book the test?

    • @neilemmerson2830
      @neilemmerson2830  6 лет назад +1

      animistix thanks for the positive feedback. You are allowed one review of your position which involves getting out the car and walking to the rear of the trailer to establish if the whole rear of the trailer is within the one metre highlighted area. If not then reverse into the area. This is not considered as s driver fault. The bay area should measure the entire length of your vehicle that you provided at the time of the booking. Yes the front cone should be the far end of your front vehicle. I hope this answers your questions.?

    How would you have to keep your hands on the steering wheel? Also can you have your head out of the window like this gentleman did?

    • @neilemmerson2830
      @neilemmerson2830  5 лет назад +1

      Hello William. You can use either one or two hands to steer the car. Even cross hands if you wish. You can look out of the window but you must also pay attention to the left hand wing mirror and will get a driver fault if you do not carry out effective observation when reversing. Hope this answers your query.

      John D hello and thank you forcwztching the video. Hope it helps. The whole test takes about 75 minutes from start to finish. In terms of preparation it depends on your experience of using trailers to the length if lesson time. I allow 5 hours for persons with experience and 8 hours for a novice. Look around and don't get ripped off.

      @@neilemmerson2830 I think they should still make you take a test for towing a caravan but I'm pretty happy with the decision otherwise. It's going to benefit me quite alot as I'm in construction, mainly groundworks, so being able to tow small diggers etc. will be useful and save me money on transport fees, but I think there will be considerably more caravan accidents than normal trailers simply because if you tow a reasonably heavy trailer it's probable that you tow it regularly whereas a caravan may only do two trips in a year.
