The Democrats control the Senate and the White House. They control half the House minus one vote. Democrats often vote as a block together- Republicans are more divided. Nothing can get passed without negotiating. A government shut down in an election year is a losing strategy. Democrats benefit from shut downs bc Republicans always get blamed. The Dems would have run on the sad stories and chaos and still probably would not come to the table to agree to more of what Republicans wanted. Republicans would have lost votes in the swing states. There are good things in the spending bill. There is a reason foreign aid was negotiated the way it was and got passed. Nothing gets passed, nothing moves forward unless the Democrats agree. The November election is mission critical. Please consider your news source is creating hype instead of explaining what they know to be true or repeating lies and do not do their due diligence to learn the truth.
Trump reauthorized FISA for 6 years in 2018. Johnson and the House reauthorized it for 2 years with the thought that once Trump is in office they can revise it. The Speaker was shown intelligence that demonstrated FISA is needed to prevent a terrorist attack in the U.S. He gave an example and he encouraged everyone in a Congress go listen to the security briefing. It is better to error on the side of safety to prevent another 9/11. Trump was with Speaker Johnson when he explained the reason for reauthorizing it in a press conference.

Thank goodness for Mike Johnson. He's demonstrated that we don't need a court system - judges, juries, testimony or evidence...to pursue enforcement of law. Mike alone can serve the function of all that stuff, all by himself. He can decide and then stand in front of a microphone and render his decision. So easy. Now that's efficiency.
