Sixty years on, Algerian desert region still struggles with effects of French nuclear tests

  • In February 1960, France carried out its first nuclear test in the Algerian desert, codenamed "Blue Jerboa". Three more atmospheric tests and 13 underground tests followed, until 1966. The consequences for humans and the environment were disastrous. More than 60 years on, the after-effects are still visible and the victims of nuclear tests are struggling to be heard. FRANCE 24 reports from both sides of the Mediterranean: with former French conscripts who performed their military service in Algeria and are trying to receive compensation, and Algerians, who feel abandoned to their fate.

That would be most of the countries of Africa that now have massive problems due to the French colonial legacy and the French mentality even to the point that in countries like Mali getting anything done for the population requires a phone call to the French companies or authorities in Paris rather than being done in Bamako or Timbuktu.

The nuclear tests couldn't have been carried out in France, huh? I see that the French victims of radiation are being compensated expeditiously. What does Paris have to say about reparations being paid to former African colonies? Aren't the Central Banks of these former colonies still run by the Banque de France? How many billions in taxes and premiums have been paid to France that could have been beneficial to these African economies? No wonder you show up with aid and grants to pacify the African people.

Well like how US put to Honduran instead of providing vaccine said "we provide Honduras with something that much more valuable - democracy".
Algeria should just be happy to have such a valuable gift from France instead of harping on irrelevant and unimportant issues such as reparations.
Same for Honduras, the friendship of US and democracy provided by US are God gifts. Shut up and start burying your deaths.

The only reason the french approach this topic is because they need immigrants to do the menial work. If you ignored it any immigrant might ask 'your country nuked my country'. But with these propag er I mean documentaries the french can say 'see we're sorry for what we did now get back to cleaning our toilets'. Was this too on the nose? I know manipulative tactics when I see them.
