Prefer the advanced model over the upgrade because of the see-through, I like seeing the mechanism
Thanks for the great review and detailed comparison. I think I prefer the 'basic' model because I like seeing the inner workings of the rotating mechanism. I'm also worried that the punched holes are going to get cruddy after a while. However, the colours are outstanding.
You mentioned that you couldn't find a pencil that had a similar grip. I found a rollerball that does though: the Lamy Swift.
the one issue I have with this pencil is that I don't press hard enough for the mechanism to work
i do not apply a lot of pressure when writing so that is the only issue I have noticed
other than that pretty cool pencil
Actually, this is my exact problem with the standard kuru toga. But the advance version is very sensitive. I like it 😊
The Pentel Smash has a similar grip, although the Smash has rubber protruding from the grip, it’s possible to take the rubber out and just leave the holes exposed. If you take the rubber out, you have something very closely resembling the punching grip
I just received my White and "Navy" ones in the mail today! Really enjoying them so far and I think the subtle grip (as opposed to knurled) is perfect for me. Thanks a lot for the overview!

The uni kuru toga advance upgrade isn't metal like glossy metal it is metal matte finish?!

Looks like the advanced is thinner.....this model looks thicker.....don't like thick writting instruments......may get one just to try out......wish they would make a clear model.....like what is hidden by the outer metal shell.
This pencil seems to exudes "for professional manga artist". I'm still intermediate level on drawing manga and I feel like im not worthy using it. It will be like someone with no fighting/swordsmanship experience wielding a legendary sword. :(

Writing in cursive wouldn’t rotate the lead would it?
No. The lead needs to be lifted to actuate the rotation. Still worth it since it’ll self-sharpen between words
