My guy, I loved Yo-Kai Watch when it first came out. My brother and I looked forward to it coming out after watching the first episodes on Disney XD, but I sorta fell out of it when it seemed a bit too repetitive and not as entertaining to me. More so it became like a pass time kinda thing, so I loved it, but not as much as I should. I do, however, LOVE the cameo and connections i've seen. The connection being that Level-5 is the same company that made the video game for "LBX" on the 3DS, and I LOVED that show and game so much. Little robots doing battle, and you control them! Basically gunpla, but robots. Then, in an episode of "Cardfight Vanguard," Nate and Whisper (or whatever Nate's japanese name is) show up during a concert at the card shop, meaning that Buddyfight, Cardfight Vanguard, AND Yo-Kai Watch all happen in the same universe! Well, possibly, since there is the whole "different reality" thing that came about, but eh. Basically, I feel glad you made this video, because this was part of the first bit of my teen years, and last bit of my childhood. I also want you to know that you are not alone in remembering this gem of a show and game when it came out. I honestly thought it would overtake Pokemon and Digimon, since they started to use an artstyle similar to Yo-Kai Watch's to appeal to a younger demographic (aka, "Pokemon Sun and Moon" and "Digimon Applimonsters"), but I was sorely mistaken that it didn't happen. However, I don't regret a single bit of time spent in enjoying this show, and I will always come back to see some sorta content of it, so if you ever do a playthrough of it, lemme know. I wanna see it. Keep up the good work, LaiyenZ. Nice meeting you, btw. ^^
I think one of the reasons it failed Is because everyone compared it to pokemon and never got to stand on its own so the expectations were set too high

I wasn't from Japan, but my home country was obsessed with yokai watch when it went local, everyone had a yokai watch, and people kept talking about it, especially little kids, maybe it was because it was marketed better there but idk anything
One thing about yokai watch that gets me when compared to Pokémon is how much more detailed, immersive and memorable the relatively small world of the games are whereas in Pokémon even in the newest release they just feel super artificial and not lived in at all. YW got my imagination going and had me hooked despite its “smaller scope” nature
Ah i remember the old days in middle school. I met two cool dudes who also had a 3ds and we all got into yokai watch at the same time. Making us even closer friends as i still talk to em and even when yokai watch 2 and 3 cam out i got fleshy souls and one of them did to and the other got boney spirits and when the phycic specters came out we all got it and we all got yokai watch 3. Honestly miss it but one reason i made a japanese account for the switch was to get yokai 1 remake and since i played the first game so much i beat it in about 2 days even tho i couldnt understand a word lmao.
I’m not gonna lie I’m a huge yo Kai fan. I’ve been obsessed since I was 5. I have all the games, I had all the toys, and I even collected the yo Kai medals. Oh memories 🙂
Yo-Kai watch was a big part of my childhood, I watched the show I played the game, and I have almost every medal toy, so I’m a bit of a nerd for yo Kai watch
10/10 would recommend. I have yokai watch 1, 2 and 4, and my favorite guy is Wobblewok, whom I haven't defeated yet, because I just got to him, and need to grind. There is yokai watch 1 and 4 on the switch, but they are both in Japanese only.
I’m glad you’re talking about this b/c I love the Yo-Kai Watch franchise! 😁 Now that Level 5 is coming back to the US, I rly hope they localize all the YKW games on switch!
Literally my only exposure to Yo-Kai watch when I was younger was the anime. It aired on some random channel I watched sometimes and I had no idea it was a game
Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the biggest 3ds game ever in terms of sheer post game content. And also the switch ISN'T REGION LOCKED so I can play my physical copy of Yo-Kai Watch 1 on Nintendo switch on my US switch no problem. Granted it's in Japanese, but not to big of a deal
Yokai Watch 4 is so different than the other games and is next in line to needing to be dubbed. People wont be able to overlook it as a Pokemon clone. Thatd be awesome if Yokai Watch 4 came to the west and they advertised the hell out of it. Also, I think its really odd how most people I see only know Yokai Watch from the show and dont even know it has a game or even originated from the game.
I actually played every Yo-Kai Watch game: 1, 2, 3 and even 4, and I have to say, I think that even just the map is better than Pokémon. Yo-Kai Watch 3 had Springdale and BBQ (Japan and the US in the Japanese version) and also the Yo-Kai World. This not only included these three areas though, there’s also Sparktopolis, Harrisville and the other train stations, but also the small dungeons made a difference in gameplay. Along with most every game adding mini games like the Blasters in YKW3 (Which before was another game’s main feature) was included. There were SO many quests and SO many Yo-Kai, every game was so good. The story in every game, although it’s linear, is so much better than any other game I’ve played, with every game actually making sense and being a sequel to the previous one. Also, the inclusion of so many battle features like the Blasters Gun in YKW3 or Lightside or Shadowside Yo-Kai, and also the Zero thing in YKW2. Also, in YKW3 you could play with 2 different characters with different quests, and in YKW4 you could play with even more characters for different abilities in combat. A great adition to every game was also the new combat mechanic in every new game you could play. The inclusion of Dream Medals as an actual feature in YKW3 Sukiyaki was also amazing, and making a fun mechanic to increase your chances of getting a better Yo-Kai from the Crank-a-Kai. In YKW4, you can also scan your arks to receive orbs and items for creating and improving a Yo-Kai.
I have been thinking about it alot lately actually. I really liked Yokai watch I think maybe they expanded out to fast... but if they wait a bit and release a game sometime in the future I will play it. Because I loved the world and the Yokai and the battle system it had. I'm also a big fan of all level 5 games so I hope it makes a return.
yooooo i used to watch this on my tv and let my brain rot slowley as i listened to the boppey theme song and my bro would always come in with the little watch that you could put the disks in, good times
So as a 30 year old i can def say that pokemon was the IT thing for everyone my age but i latched on to yokai so hard i still have both watches and all the medallions XD yes i have no life, and i share them with my son now lol. Either way i loved the 3ds games and REALLY want a new one on switch T_T
I really miss this franchise, altough it never got as big as people expected. It still is an amazing franchise. I personally enjoy these games way more then any of the more recent pokemon games (on that note, the little yellow rat did get done in. Kinda)
If you ask me, it sucks how poorly Yo Kai Watch performed. Personally, when I was starting to find Pokemon games to be lackluster, I found Yo Kai Watch to be everything that I wanted and more! But yeah, its marketing was terrible. I only knew about it because my younger cousin randomly started playing it because our grandma thought it was Pokemon and gifted it to them for Christmas lol I feel like Yo Kai Watch’s two biggest issues are 1. It’s competition with Pokemon and 2. Being based on Yo Kai makes the characters very Japanese culture specific. Pokemon are typically designed after common animals and objects. That makes it easier to reach a broader audience. I really hope that Level 5 can make a game that can reignite the international public interest in the game. Probably won’t ever been to the point where people see it as a genuine competitor against Pokemon. But enough to where we get semi-consist releases that sell well. Regardless, I love this series and hope that it continues ❤️
I really miss it. I remember buying the game day one thinking it was a shameless Pokémon rip off. But boy if I couldn’t be anymore wrong. I fell in love immediately and couldn’t stop playing it. I dumped a solid 820 hours+ into the first game. I really miss the fun of yo Kai watch. Sadly I never played the 4th because I don’t like playing games in other languages but still I want yo Kai watch to return to America and make not just mine but every other yo Kai fan truly happy again. (Note: sorry for the long comment! 😅)
i had a poster of this series on my bedroom wall. i owned the first game and watched the first 2 seasons and it's always been one of my favourite franchises. i hope that the yokai watch 1 port gets translated to europe and north america one day.
I'm going to make some corrections for those reading the comments after the video: Yo-kai Watch has similarities to Pokemon as a Monster Collecting genre, however it's more askin to the Shin Megami Tensei series only more light hearted. You don't "catcher", but instead Befriend Yokais, you earned their Medal as a sign of friendship and as a contract to summon them. Even the central gameplay mechanic to Befriending a Yokai enforces this concept. As the player character you don't really protect your home town from evil yokais or fight them, the main driving point about Yo-kai Watch is dealing with the every day life of something unusual or weird happening that isn't necessarily correct. Think about your own personal experiences from what had happened in your life; why some people are successful or down on their luck, why you or soneone react in such a way, and something mysterious went missing. *That's the fault of a Yokai!* Yokais and Humans coexist with one another and affect their everyday life. You're not dealing with evil, but stopping a Yokai over influencing someone, something, or yourself in a way that isn't right because they got carried away or something happened to them. There are evil Yokai forces that hate humans or just bent on world destruction, but those are usually built up as the story progresses in the later chapters of the game.
I still have the 1st and 2nd game, and the anime is still my favorite to this day, and I played the 1st game so much that my team is at lvl 99, I love yokai watch and is my favorite anime to this day😊😎

@@nacnud2115 Yeah I played it on emulator first (I managed to get it digitally before the eshop closed) yk3 is ridiculously expensive physically
Holy crap bro I used to see ads for this all over Cartoon Network back in the day but I completely blocked them out of my memory until now somehow
Bro if professor Layton can come back why not yokai watch we need to bring it back in the west I NEED to play theese games on switch 3ds was my freaking childhood and I need it back
With level 5 working on a new professor Layton. Maybe we can finally get yo Kai watch 4 over here
Finally, the video we've all been waiting for
I'm also a fan of this game it started with the anime on every weekend and then I saw this guy named johne who played the game and he was the one of three people that played the game and it made me wanna play it to
You don't enslave yokai, you befriend them
Oh wow what a coincidence! I just started playing Yokai watch on my homebrew 3ds! This is a great video 👍
too many people compare every “monster fighter/collecter” with pokemon. it hurts them all in the long run. it made me so mad in 2015 when ign wouldn’t shut up about yo kai watch being the pokemon killer
i remember looking in the eshop on the 3ds and saw a demo for a game callt yo kai watch and gave it a try and after playing it for a few times i knew i had to
get the full game yo kai watch was a huge part of my childhood and still is and after watching the last direct i have hope we get to see a return of yo kai watch by level 5 games
these series wil always be a part of who i am whisper jibanyan and all my other yo kai friends i hope to see you all again one day
I remember playing the Blasters mode on Yokai Watch 2 with my friends at the park..
Ah the good old days
i weirdly remember being so into this show when i was 7 or 6, finally found its name after the years..
I wasn't from Japan, but my home country was obsessed with yokai watch when it went local, everyone had a yokai watch, and people kept talking about it, especially little kids, maybe it was because it was marketed better there but idk anything
Yokai-Watch is my childhood.
I only got to play the first game, but I abso-heckin'-lutely loved it.
One thing about yokai watch that gets me when compared to Pokémon is how much more detailed, immersive and memorable the relatively small world of the games are whereas in Pokémon even in the newest release they just feel super artificial and not lived in at all.
YW got my imagination going and had me hooked despite its “smaller scope” nature
yo kai watch is my childhood and playing it on the 3ds hit harder
Yokai watch carried my childhood with the 3ds
This vidéo is so good, it maked me returned in childhood and it’s very funny (especially for the los angeles joke 😭🤣)
Sorry for my bad english
Ah i remember the old days in middle school. I met two cool dudes who also had a 3ds and we all got into yokai watch at the same time. Making us even closer friends as i still talk to em and even when yokai watch 2 and 3 cam out i got fleshy souls and one of them did to and the other got boney spirits and when the phycic specters came out we all got it and we all got yokai watch 3. Honestly miss it but one reason i made a japanese account for the switch was to get yokai 1 remake and since i played the first game so much i beat it in about 2 days even tho i couldnt understand a word lmao.
I lovee Yo Kai Watch as a kid i remember on the playground everybody liked Pokemon except for me.
I also love Beyblade
I’m not gonna lie I’m a huge yo Kai fan. I’ve been obsessed since I was 5. I have all the games, I had all the toys, and I even collected the yo Kai medals. Oh memories 🙂
Yo-Kai watch was a big part of my childhood, I watched the show I played the game, and I have almost every medal toy, so I’m a bit of a nerd for yo Kai watch
Yo kai watch was so underrated, the 3rd game is SO MUCH FUN IT HAS SO MUCH TO DO and probably the best out of them all [although YKW1 never gets old]
peak game
I didn’t even know there was games, I would just watch the anime and I knew there was toys lol
NOSTALGIAAAAA, Yo kai watch it was my first game on the 3ds!
this is honestly exactly how i got into yokai watch too
your humor and the editing skills are truly underrated. keep it up!
We NEED Yo-Kai Watch back in the West!
I hope yo kai watch makes a return. They need to port the first game in english. I'd definitely buy it again to show support.
Good to see I’m not the only one remembering Yo-Kai Watch
Youkai watch is the perfect combination of ben 10,pokemon,and doraemon.
I still have the Yo-kai Watch games and I still play them.
My childhood fandom but I will remember it and still active it
I love yokai watch, I have 2 (psychic specters) and 3, and I'm gonna get 1 soon and the anime was awesome on disney xd.
oh ya yo kai watch bro it need to come back and make a return because the show and the game was so dang good.
I legit just beat the 1st game for the tenth time yesterday I’m in love with this game
I remember it, because I've always loved this series.
I’m probably one of the only people who played yokai watch in Australia
I have been thinking about it alot lately actually. I really liked Yokai watch I think maybe they expanded out to fast... but if they wait a bit and release a game sometime in the future I will play it. Because I loved the world and the Yokai and the battle system it had. I'm also a big fan of all level 5 games so I hope it makes a return.
yooooo i used to watch this on my tv and let my brain rot slowley as i listened to the boppey theme song
and my bro would always come in with the little watch that you could put the disks in, good times
Funny how I’m playing Yo-Kai Watch 3 rn so RUclips is throwing YWK recommendations at me
I really miss this franchise, altough it never got as big as people expected.
I only knew about it because my younger cousin randomly started playing it because our grandma thought it was Pokemon and gifted it to them for Christmas lol
I feel like Yo Kai Watch’s two biggest issues are 1.
I loved this yokai watch. This hilarious series deserves a second chance! Go Yokai watch
You make me happy i cant be bothered to write a paragraph of why but im a diehard ykw fan and it needs another chance
i will never forget yo-kai watch i only wish for an english version on the rest of the series, i also really love the movie
I miss that game I hope someday the first one will come to the switch someday
this makes me wanna play yokai watch now damn
very cool show and game ngl
thats all i have to say, yo-kai watch was my childhood
Never played, might give it a shot
It's now pretty rare and some of the games are expensive
@@Question-mark21 Yokai watch 2 psychic specters is not that expensive on amazon
@@rin11963 i said some not all
@@pacfighter4226 or just.... Homebrew
@@pacfighter4226 when is the eShop closing
I'm going to make some corrections for those reading the comments after the video:
Yo-kai Watch has similarities to Pokemon as a Monster Collecting genre, however it's more askin to the Shin Megami Tensei series only more light hearted.
*That's the fault of a Yokai!*
Yokais and Humans coexist with one another and affect their everyday life.
Have you played Yo-Kai Watch?
yes and I absolutely hate how poorly it did
yes, I like the sequel more then the original
Yes. All of them (at least the ones that were localized).
I grew up with Yo-Kai Watch, and love all 4 games that was brought to the states. I really hope with Professor Layton coming back, so can Yo-Kai Watch
I loved the anime as a kid, its the second anime I actually ever watched with the first being kinda obvious... Pokemon
Yo-Kai Watch also a part of my childhood, from watching the anime, to buying the little toys.
I still have the 1st and 2nd game, and the anime is still my favorite to this day, and I played the 1st game so much that my team is at lvl 99, I love yokai watch and is my favorite anime to this day😊😎
To be honest i never liked Pokemon,I always was more on the yo kai watch side and i still play it today
