    For non-fiction, I'd recommend Ashes & Stones by Allyson Shaw. I'm currently rereading The Witching Hour by Anne Rice & I would recommend her Mayfair Witches series 🖤

      @JeansThoughts  8 дней назад +2

      Ooh I've never read any Anne Rice but I understand she's prolific. Maybe this is the place I should start with!?

      @cuppa.books. 8 дней назад +3

      @JeansThoughts You can absolutely start here - there's an eventual overlap with her vampire chronicles but the original Mayfair trilogy is its own thing. She does delve into some taboo subjects at times - so maybe check up on that if you have any particular triggers. Her sense of place & atmosphere is fantastic though.

    I must admit I'm quite fussy when it comes to witch books, despite loving witch stories, but you've reminded me I need to read Kissing the Witch!
    The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow is one of my all-time favourites, and I'd also recommend The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland. I also really enjoyed The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe, though I'm not sure I'd still love it as much if I read it now.
    Oh and I have to mention another all-time favourite: Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, which is set in Mexico City in the 1980s and follows three teenagers who discover how to cast spells with their vinyl records.

    Some "classic" nonfiction wiccan/pagan/goddesss books: Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshipers and Other Pagans in America by Margot Adler; Witches by Erica Jong (coffee table book); anything by ecofeminist and Wiccan activist Starhawk, including The Spiral Dance, Truth or Dare, Twelve Wild Swans, The Earth Path, among others, and her two novels, The Fifth Sacred Thing and the sequel City of Refuge (which I haven't read the latter). Oh, and not really Wiccan per se: Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Women Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

    I just read Lolly Willows last month, I’d never heard of it before but I loved it! I could so run off and live in a cottage in the forest and wander through nature for the rest of my life 😁
    Arthur Millers The Crucible is in my top 5 books of all time. I wasn’t sure what it was really about when I picked it up but it was just amazing and scary (because it was based on real happenings at the Salem witch trials) and I could see how lies escalate and how people jump on the band wagon especially in certain political parties in modern times. So scary to think how easy it is to persuade the masses without any factual evidence.

    The only books of SF that come immediately to mind featuring witchcraft are The Warlock In Spite of Himself series, by Christopher Stasheff. Also featuring a robot horse! - but a bit dated in atitudes to women, so don't consider this an especially strong recommendation...
