    Nico, please make wind foil jibe video on how to do the flip sail first then switch stance to change feet,
    “strap to strap foil jibe”!Not with big race sails & boards but small free ride/wave sails & foil boards especially for windfoiling in ocean swells & waves. Thanks!

    OK, this is just awesome! First off, BEST FOIL JIBE TUTORIAL YET! Seriously, REALLY well done. Secondly, uncanny timing! I just came back TODAY from a windfoil session where I had some minor breakthroughs with the jibe, pertaining *precisely* to the point you bring up @2:16... Putting the back foot all the way over to the rail (on a wide board) really doesn't work well! Also, putting the NEW back foot anywhere beyond centerline is similarly problematic, as it leads to the issues you point out @5:44. I like your suggestion of a brief "heel-to-heel" for the transition (for wide boards). I had been going new-back-foot-BEHIND-old-back-foot, but I think your suggestion makes much more sense (again, for wide boards specifically). Gonna have to try that next time. Thank you Nico!! Stellar stuff. Keep it up! #MakeWindsurfingGreatAgain

    I've watched this video several times and it's very helpful. Succinct and to the point! I've gotten so I can foil in a straight line pretty well. I rarely crash anymore just doing that, but jibing is another story. For quite a while I could not get through any kind of jibe without crashing and falling into the water. Based on this video and others I've modified my technique to switch my feet first, like you do, before flipping the sail and that seems to be helping. Now I can usually get through a foil jibe without crashing, but I have yet to get all the way through the jibe on the foil. I'm at a stage where the board settles on the water before I get all the way through, but that's a lot better than falling in all the time!

    Well put together tutorial with all the key points there 👌 (the heel to heel part of the footwork is something I will work on next session for sure)
    *Please do a how-to video on carrying big race foil kit! (yes boring I know 😂)
    I live in an area which gets quite a bit of swell, especially if there is any onshore in the wind.
    The beach has a gnarly dumping shore break!
    Entering the water isn't too bad with the kit above your head - but getting out without scratching the foil and not having a wave break on a big heavy race sail is a MISSION! Especially when tierd after many hours on the water lol.

    I have trouble getting my back foot out of the strap to start initiating the curve. Find I normally touch down when I remove my back foot, then lift straight up again, normally fall in trying to flip the rig still! Definitely need more practice!! Great video!!

    Nice tutorial! I tend too fall to the outside of the turn and some times close to the foil. So, somtimes I fall, in terror, close into the foil. I never release the boom and that may help me to avoid hitting the foil...

    I swear I have broken my toe 400 times since I’ve started foiling and gybing regularly, I seem to kick the footstrap a lot and then sometimes lose balance. It was nice to see a tutorial with a big sail that talks about back-winding. Most videos seem to be on wave sails where it’s not such a problem. The advice about getting the mast upright/leaning forward is definitely the most helpful thing for aspiring foiling racers to learn!!

    Yes, agree that more lift is better, the old np rsf4 racing foil with pink logo is really hard to gibe but I managed to fly through sailing clew first a few times when overpowered. With the np glide wind you park it in the air, super easy gibes.

    • @Nico_GER7
      @Nico_GER7  3 года назад +1

      Yes, very true. The older NP one was really tricky to jibe. But good that you figured it out with the late shifting.

    5 yrs ago one of those people: "Foiling? Windsurfing industry must be desperate to generate $$s"" attitude. 3yrs ago: "Hmm maybe" attitude. 2020: Purchased a '18 Horue Tiny, '19 SlingShot foil set up, dug out of storage the 2000 5.5M Naish Edge & old Chinook Aluminum boom. Days like today(8-11kt with 0.5-1m seas) would have been beached. Instead, on the water foiling with that stupid grin:). Just like the early days of windsurfing when you finally hooked in and got into the straps. Eventual next step. The foiling jibe. Thanks for the video tutorial. Beats the "good old days" of looking at static photos and reading captions in your favorite windsurfing magazine.

    On the short mast, I jibe like with a normal fin, but I don’t lean very much and I keep everything more or less level. I flip the sail before the feet, so as not to disturb the foil balance. Then I switch my feet when I am going in the other direction. With the tall mast, everything seems a bit more tricky, so I am not finding as much success.

    Hi I was wondering if I could get your advice. Specifically concerning the front hand (in step 1).
    - Should it be the aim be to keep the front arm as straight/extended as possible?
    - And therefore the rig is as outward and as most forward as possible (as you enter the gybe) ?
    I am trying to learn the foil jibe. It's coming slowly but inconsistent. And now I need to trouble shoot stuff! I experienced in my last session after the foot change that the rig was too close to me. Result, I stall and fall backwards.
    If I may be so free I include two video links of 2 sessions, if you see something worth commenting on please feel free. (5 sept vimeo.com/455729991 and 12 sept vimeo.com/457716037 ).
    Many thanks in advance!

    • @Nico_GER7
      @Nico_GER7  3 года назад +1

      Yes, especially in light wind the extended front arm helps. I watched your footage. The jibe in the first video at 0:40 is looking quite good. Seems like you move your front hand forward before you initiate the jibe. That would do the opposite from extending your arm, so try to keep it in place instead. :-)

    Couldn't resist going back to your first video, seeing as you mentioned it, and was very tempted to unsubscribe from your channel. You could do yourself a big favour by trimming the second half off and getting rid of that incredibly stupid and , to some, very offensive t shirt. Glad to see you've matured somewhat now and can understand why you're not particularly proud of them. Why on earth did you think it was a good idea to wear that in your very first step into the lucrative world of a RUclips channel?
    Anyway, moan over and the stuff you produce now is worth the growing pains.
