So I’m kinda new to dove hunter by myself without my dad going with me I’m having some trouble on spotting doves or more so being able to tell if they are dove. Like how do they fly how fast do their wings flap. I don’t know. Maybe I just looking for some pointers on how to spot them bc by the time i actually tell they are past my head over the wood line

They fly pretty quickly, and can have an irregular wing-beat. Most of the time they seem to fly low, around 5-20 ft off the ground.
Most of the time I’m looking for their profile. They have a backward swept wing, and resemble more of a small hawk in flight.
Pigeons are fatter, and more round. Sparrows are smaller and tend to dive and rise in flight. So you’re looking for something in between those two.
But really like you already said, once you hunt them a few times- you’ll be able to ID them easier.
Hope that helps. Enjoy your hunts and stay safe.
