Say it again for the people in the back. This movie was heavily snubbed. I feel it received backlash because three of the main characters are Chinese actors portraying Japanesd women.....I can understand that....BUT THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB WITH THIS THO.
Gong LI was the only reason I enjoyed the film...she was by far the most beautiful, complex, and interesting character. She was the only one I could feel any empathy for, the only one I could relate to.

She has far better range compared to the other two.
Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi have always played that one same character, who is always angelic and heroic.

It’s actually not banned in China yet did cause a lot of controversies. Mostly because of the complicated historical and political relationship between China and Japan. Me as a Chinese love these 3 gorgeous Chinese actresses and am very proud that they nailed these roles in a Hollywood A-list movie.
And Gong Li is without doubt a Chinese film icon and a superstar!

Gong Li stole every scene she was in and added such tension and intrigue to a movie that was otherwise a bit bland. I actually thought Zhang Ziyi was the weak link from an acting point of view, whereas I really enjoyed Gong Li, Michelle Yeoh and Suzuka Ohgo's performances.
