$25 Generator From Lowes - The Final Outcome

  • Conclusion of the Lowe's broken generator project. There were some surprises this time. Someone had bought this machine new, and then returned it to the store in a non-running state. It wasn't cost effective for the store to fix it so they decided to mark down the price and sell it as-is. That's where I stepped in.

    Jennie and you are priceless. I loved the banter. You don't know how lucky you are. My wife and I were soul mates and unfortunately, I lost her about 3 1/2 years ago to cancer. We were coming up to our 50th anniversary but only made it short of 49. Enjoy the time you have together, and make more videos, they are great. I did not know how much I would enjoy these three, but the interaction was terrific and brought tears to my eves. I hope you appreciate the wonderful situation you have. Don't let your camera girl ever get away. Good luck always. Jim . . .

      Hey Jim, my wife and I are going on 41 years married and I know the feeling because we live it every day. A day doesn't go by that I don't tell her how much I adore her. And she the same. At times it doesn't seem like there are many of us, but there is and you proved it. With our love and condolences, your friends, Robert and Debbie

      Very well written Jim Frohn. You can feel the love these 2 people share. Matter of fact I've also got a wife similar to Jennie who throws in comments such as Jennie's. The more I think about this video I'd now consider repairing one of these if I could get one of these dud returns from HD or Lowes

      Could you please explain it to me? English isn't my first language...

    • @Nexusin
      @Nexusin 7 лет назад +11

      in English "vice" has two meanings, one is to squeeze something to hold it in place, and also means bad habits.
      My reply was to him saying they help him cope, as to cope means to be able to deal with stress and such. It also is the name of a saw for cutting things.

    • @xcomboy5913
      @xcomboy5913 7 лет назад +4

      As a pun, great! But Nex, you should inform the person new to the language that the two words are vise (clamping-holding tool) and vice (fun stuff we're not supposed to do.) Yup, English is tough.

    • @ethanpoole3443
      @ethanpoole3443 7 лет назад +5

      XCOMBOY Often the price of extreme flexibility is an addition of complexity, but context is everything...just like "read" and "read" are each other's past and future tense (or present in the case of "reading" -- I am presently reading a book -- pronounced like "reeding") of one another. The future tense is pronounced just like "reed" (like the reed in a wind instrument -- I will read that book) and the past tense is pronounced "red" (like the color -- I read the book yesterday). A lot of English word play is built around quirks like these where either different words sound alike -- such as with "vise" and vice" -- or two identically spelled words have entirely different meanings.

      You can't put a value on the experience, the rush of succeeding on a project like that is priceless. Also nobody ever claimed hobbies were cost effective. My buddy spent $22k on a fishing boat and who knows how much on other gear, I just spend a few bucks at the supermarket and come home with fish.

    • @capper6100
      @capper6100 4 года назад +1

      Maybe if you make $200 or more an hour. If the time you spend working without pay is worth money, then any time you work you are "printing" money. Your bank account stays the same. I never liked the argument "time is money" because it's only true, in my eyes, if you can spend that same time working at getting paid in bank notes.

      Same. Somehow it pulled me in, even though it was randomly recommended. I kind of want to learn how to repair engines now. I’ve got an old power washer that my mother-in-law gave me a while back. It runs well but leaks gas. Was going to get rid of it because of the leak but maybe I should research how to fix it now? Main problem is that I don’t really need a power washer now, so I can’t justify spending time and money on it. But maybe I could learn a thing or two and sell it.

      I have an 8' x 4' work bench and even with an area that size, I'm forever on my hands and knees picking up screws, washers etc. I would have no chance using a balcony railing as a work surface 😬

    I was hooked on this 3 part series, and it made me laugh with the back and forth with your wife. the editing and entertainment kept the good parts and left out the in between. Not many times do you see someone who knows what they are doing and can overhaul and generator using 1/4' drive hand tools , angle iron and a tooth brush on their wooden deck. I was rooting for you and was clapping when it finally started up. thanks for letting us enjoy the journey with you.

    Bravo. Genius. This is the video of the year, the series of the Generac that is. The story, the outcome... it's all amazing. It's refreshing to see someone fixing or repairing instead of discarding and purchasing. As well as not being defeated by the availability of parts. The commentary and wit, from both parties, is amazing and makes the story complete. I am in awe that you were able to get this generator for a bit over $50 and a schosh of elbow grease. Top notch. Lastly, and certainly (in this mans opinion) most important, an excellent family man whom is inclusive of his family and not afraid to show it. Can't wait until the next video!

    • @jasonlisonbee
      @jasonlisonbee 6 лет назад +1

      For the lesson learned, is it more or less than taking the class in college; including travel? Every company that builds small products by hand should have a rebuild line in the same factory where they take everything apart, swap what's broken, put it back together, test, done. In the factory it should be a lot faster and cost less to whom it might cost to dispose of it if they pay for the factory rebuild instead.

    What a great series of videos - not only were they interesting as you worked through the problem but you demonstrated true resourcefulness to fix a problem that the manufacturer should have been able to easily fix (but who fixes things anymore in this throw-away world?) and you made it fun and heartwarming all at the same time. I am impressed! Not only a great video but very entertaining. It's refreshing to see that there are still intelligent people in this world. You remind me of me, I've been a mechanic for over 50 years and can take anything apart and repair it but my wife says I can't spell. Congratulations and that's a great price at $25. Lowe's needs to have their head examined for taking that back, but it was your good fortune and hard work that got it running again..

      Mike Bavoso that's just it people now a days don't want to put any effort into anything. If it's not convenient they pass it off as irreparable. Also they don't teach this in schools anymore we are a society of consumers. I remember going to auto shop, woodshop, small engine repair class, welding class, and even a/c class. Even though I am not an expert those things help me not to get stuck today and not get taken advantage of. He did an excellent job but most people wouldn't even take the time.
