My dad was in the Army, and he and my mom were housed in military housing, in Morrow Bay. My mom loved Morrow Bay, and to this day she would love to be back in the " Little artist's colony ..." that she fell in love with. My dad's job was involved with the LSTS, so he was stationed in San Diego. My heart seems to be pulling me there, too, as I believe I was " made " in Morrow Bay. At the end of the war my dad wanted to go back to Illinois, though my mom tried to convince him to stay there, and in the Army, to no avail. My dad died in 1974, a month short of his 48th birthday. Mom remarried two more times, and just lost my step-dad, who was 89. Mom is 91, now, and just after my step-dad died, mom and I were talking, and she was remembering her favorite place on this planet, Morrow Bay, California.
I thank you, Morrow Bay, for making such a bright and happy place for her, when she was a newly-married Army wife. She loved the Bay, the ocean, everything, and it is the one thing she has always held to her heart, Morrow Bay, its people, and all that Morrow Bay was, and evidently, still is.
    Sincerely,
    Carla M. Barr Jackson-Lema, Sr.

Carla Lema ~ great tribute to your Mom and Dads love of Morro Bay. Today it’s a busy tourist town, but still retains its charm of a bygone era...

My dad trained in Morro Bay to drive amphibious landing craft , LCVP for the South Pacific Theater in WWII. I believe that's him with the rope in the 5:18 segment of the video. I was always fascinated on his ability to drive a boat and tie all kinds of knots.

I was there last month and looked if I could see the old pillars from think it was the foot bridge from mainland to the sand dunes (forget what actually called) but wasn’t sure which ones were it. I would love to metal detect that area someday (if allowed) to find relics from ww2.
