Thank you all so much for watching! Stay tuned for a pros and cons of having a small service dog video! Subscribe to become a part of the #skyeleague ! 💗💗💗
I do want to reccomend getting a micro prong collar. I was using a small on my boy for a while and I decided to get a micro for him and it's way better. He has 11 links on the micro compared to the 4 like you have now.
I love how you have a small breed service dog! Some people think smaller breeds can’t be service dogs, but they’re some of the best! I’m getting a Yorkie service dog sometime soon, and I’m more than excited! Love you ♥️
Omgosh I just found your channel and I LOVE it already!!! I already subscribed and I and binge watching all of your videos! I have a SDit and she is a pystriatric service dog!❤️. Anyway, I’m happy I found your channel and btw Skye is SOOOOO adorable!!❤️❤️💗💗💗😍😍😍
I have a long haired Chihuahua that ways about 3.88 pounds that is in training to be a psychiatric service dog been having trouble finding gear to fit him so I had to make 1 for him to use for now. I like the 1st 2 vest/harnesses u have.
Haha I get people wanting to touch my SDIT cuz he's a chihuahua....he's white/cream and long haired lol he looked like a tiny artic fox as a puppy lol Also, my keyworker/mental health nurses was the one who first brought up the service dog idea (until then my dog was like an esa and I'd just take it everywhere but would ask permission to enter shops or whatever since it wasnt a service dog ) then she left and I got a new keyworker and I was telling her that when had to get a covid test they wouldn't let me in with my SDIT and one of the staff held him next to the back door, where they also let me enter so I'd still be quite near my dog which at least they were trying to be helpful I guess, probably just not aware of the law, but I was saying to my keyworker 'what if I was blind with a guide dog? Would they refuse him entry?' And she was like 'so is that vest just something you bought to take him places?' 0_o I then explained what he was learning and she was rather gobsmacked, apparently the first few months she thought I had a fake SD 🤣🤣🤣
When I take my sdit to the store not in her vest everybody ignores her but when she's in her vest they all start asking if they could pet her and her name and they are so annoying.
Can you tell me where you got the tactical vest? I also have a chi SD and love the large tactical vests. But so far have not found one that will fit my dog. He is about the same size as yours. Ty
I have a service dog that’s a multie purpose service dog I have the same breed I’m glad I’m not the only service dog handler with your breed she’s medical alert phyatric and ptsd response even though she’s fully trained I stil go over task with her like bring me my medication and bring me different items when nesscary she’s doing amazing going over the basics with her
I love all your gear! Where did you get the saddle bag? That’s such a smart idea! I’ve been trying to find a bag to keep my service dog’s treats in while we’re out that I can also add a patch.
Can I ask a question? 1) can you train a service dog that is 4 or 5. 2) I have anxiety about places do you thing a SD would help and thank you for hopefully replying
chailey grace hello! Training an older dog can be pretty tough and it really depends on their nature and raw talent. Also, your anxiety has to be debilitating and the dog would have to perform tasks in order to mitigate the disability. It is possible but I would highly recommend doing a ton of research before getting serious 😊
Just because you have anxiety doesn’t mean you qualify for a service dog you have to have disabling anxiety that prevents you from doing a everyday activity just because you have anxiety about a place dose not mean you qualify for a service dog you have to have a doctors note to have a service dog you can’t just train a dog or try to train a dog and say oh yah I have a service dog
Did you struggle at all with reactivity when training your service dog really struggling with mines reactivity to other dogs she barks a lot other than that she's a dream just very barky and struggling to shake the habit :(
Skye would get a bit nervous and whimper when she saw another dog but I just take her to pet stores all the time especially when they are busy and it helps her understand that they’re not going to hurt her. 😊 Of course all dogs are different but I wish you the best of luck with your girl! 💕
@@riss.and.the.dogs321 thank you so much I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with misty she gets focused on another dog and starts barking she's never aggressive tho just barks a lot I'm definitely going to take her to a lot of different pet shops and work on it before I can even think about public access aha ❤️ thank you for the advice I really appreciate it also love your channel ❤️✨
How much does Skye weigh? I will be getting a chihuahua puppy to train as my SD. Adult weight will be about 4.5 pounds, so I’m looking for sources for gear.
I have a small dog that I want to train as a service dog (she’s an ESA) at the moment, very well behaved, no flaws (in my eyes haha) and I don’t know if she naturally alerts? Because one time I was having a severe panic attack and she flopped onto my leg and scratched at me, would you count that as an alert or whatever else it’s called? :3
It definitely could have been an alert! What you could do is have her paw your leg (if she knows “touch”/“paw”) whenever you are feeling anxious so she gets used to alerting when she smells the stress hormones. that way the task is more consistant and solid 😊
The only think my dog needs to learn is to stop barking haha. I am in the same position as you. My dog naturally alerts before panic attacks and is very good at lpt.
My boy has to work in a bandana too! lol Cute little vests and cape. Aries also uses that same black no pull harness you attach the cape to on his off duty times. :) Do you prefer the normal prong or the nylon one? Also, yes it is hard for me to read, but I have horrible sight!
I've only used half check martingales and the gentle leader, so I've been considering a prong because he can be a bit stubborn at times! Think I may try the nylon one first to test out, thank you. :)
Hey! Do you mean what small dogs can be service dogs? If so, all breeds can as long as they are task trained to help mitigate their handlers disabilities and are well trained for public access 😊
i feel like small dog stuff is so cheap also how do you do corrections i feel like i would accidentally just yank the dog back its so little and im used to a great dane haha
Hey there! I use the prong collar for that exact reason! Their esophagus’s are very tiny and delicate so her pulling on a flat collar would collapse it! Thank you for your concern though!
Is it OK to use that kind of prong (as opposed to a micro prong made specifically for chihuahuas) ? I bought one for my chihuahua SDIT (there was a picture of a chihuahua so I figured it would fit lol ) and it was a standard sized prong :/ I tried removing links but got to 4 and it's still too big and obviously I don't want to have just like 2 links poling into him cuz that would hurt, but I considered using something to tie the chain part so it becomes shorter but then I thought that was an insane idea so the prong has just never been used :/
Hey! I think it comes down to your dogs size, I ended up getting a micro prong for skye and it fit her so much better! I ended up graduating her to work on just her e collar once she understood the pressure/release and expectations!
Hey please look in to geting a different prong because the one you have is not safe so please look in to getting a herm springer prong collar you’re gonna have to find the sizes that you need But please get a new one because it’s not your dog can get hurt
Thank you for you concern! I actually don’t use a prong on Skye anymore, she has worked solely on an e collar for the past year! Thank you for keeping an eye out for her safety though!
Hi, i love your little dog, uh, I really hope you reply because I’ve asked a lot of service dog owners about this and non have responded, but I have anxiety, to wear sometimes I almost passed out, it’s never gotten that far because people tell me that I’m shaking and I realize what happening, but I also think I may have ptsd, I have some of them symptoms not all, but I get nervous about talking about some subjects, or I get really upset when something is happening and I get really bad mood swings, and I yell at my family and I feel guilty, but I have never told them why, but I lost a loved one last year and he wasn’t supposed to pass but he did and it was really hard for me, but I watch my mom cry and I’ve never seen her cry, and I saw him in the hospital and I couldn’t handle it, it was really scary see him like that, and I have a few others that have passed to but I’m only going to talk about the ones that effected me the most, but when I was 5 my bestfriend died from a tv falling on her, and I guess then I didn’t understand what happened and now that I’m older I’m 15 btw, I guess I understand more and it’s so scary to think of, like that happened to MY best friend I saw her the day before it happened, and so every time I think about it I guess I get really scared and start breathing heavier and shaking and scratching etc. and I guess I was wondering if you think I would benefit from a service dog, I can train my own I’m going to anyway because she is an esa right now, but I really want her to be a full service dog, because she can help me with anxiety, but I guess what I’m asking is if you think I might have ptsd and that could be what causes my anxiety? Also my dog is a little bit bigger than yours, she is a longhair Chihuahua, papillon, and mini Aussie mix. She is very calm other than when she knows we are going somewhere like the word walk or park or treat, but if I don’t say those words and take her out she’s perfect, she knows simple commands and I’m teaching her tasks and more commands like sitting for a long time and going to the bathroom on command, and etc, do you think she has potential to be a service dog?
Lover_girl Tri hello there! I’m so sorry about what you’ve gone through 💔 Anxiety is definitely a symptom of ptsd! I would talk to your doctor or psychiatrist to get a proper diagnosis, because I’m no doctor and self diagnosing can be harmful! I would recommend trying anti anxiety medicine first (if you haven’t already) because it sure can help! Service dogs can be soooo helpful but they can be a lot of work and can make anxiety worse from people staring and commenting! I would talk to people you trust about how you feel and be honest about your emotions. Keeping them bottled up dosent help. I hope that this helps and feel free to ask more questions! 💕
Skye at your Service thank you so much, your the first person to actual respond, I have talk to many friends, about it and they don’t really say anything, sometimes I feel like I’m the person that they talk to about their problems but they don’t listen to mine, I’ve tried to talk to my mom and dad, but they see it as if I’m trying to make up problems, and I don’t go to the doctor very often because my mom won’t take me ever, she is very much the anti doctor solution person even tho she works in a hospital, lol I would love to take to a doctor about it and see if it’s possible that I have ptsd, but I never go so I’m trying to think of a now ish solution and that is in mind to train my dog, she is really well behaved and she is pretty much almost there, she just needs to lean a few more things, my mom and dad don’t see my issues as a big problem, they don’t see how bad it gets because they’re never around to see it, when I was at my sisters house I almost passed out because I was trying to talk to her about it, and I got super nervous and scared, and whenever I talk to my mom she is always like oh your fine your perfect there’s nothing wrong with you, no matter how many time I try to explain, I can’t seem to get through to her that somethings wrong. She is only letting me train my dog now because it won’t cost anything, we already have her, so she won’t need to do anything, and the first sign my mom should of had that there is something wrong is when the doctor told her to buy me melatonin because I don’t sleep because I think to much ya know, no one understands and it’s getting frustrating, and thank you again, it nice to have someone to talk to that will actually give me answers even if its not from a doctor, it helps me with closure I guess I don’t think that’s the word but I think you get it, again thank you.
Awe! Hey I have a gear shop and if you’re looking for something tiny I might be able to help! I have pre made stuff but I like to make lots of small vests for the tiny heroes! It’s on Instagram @skysesservicedoggear_
Haha actually using a flat or chain on her would be more harmful to her trachea since it’s direct pressure on the front of her neck, whereas prong collars evenly displace the pressure. Also, it’s chihuahua, their, and trachea.
I would watch a prong they can cause serious injury even if used rightly my mum went to training with a man he was in class he used a prong almost ripped dogs ear off he was banned from class for good Prongs are totally illegal in some county's including the UK they are painful very painful I've seen dogs have holes in skin and that's was one that's used right martingale collars are better for the dogs small dogs suffer collapsed tracia as well and have breathing issues
angels _up_in_heavenxx oh yah totally! I only very lightly correct her with it :) the picture you probably saw was a dog that was tied up on a prong for a very long time and of course that is the absolutely incorrect way to use a prong. If used properly in the right hands it cannot be dangerous but I’m very thankful for your input! 😊
I know it may be hard to understand, maybe I can help you! Prong collars are designed to help evenly distribute pressure across the dogs neck for clear and honest communication! Also, because it does not choke or press on the front of the neck, it prevents tracheal damage often seen in small dogs! Skye used the prong for a couple of months while in the early stages of training to learn pressure and release and no longer needs it! If you have any further questions I’m happy to educate! 🤗

Awe! Hey I have a gear shop and if you’re looking for something tiny I might be able to help! I have pre made stuff but I like to make lots of small vests for the tiny heroes! It’s on Instagram @skysesservicedoggear_
@@riss.and.the.dogs321 wonderful! I'll check out your IG. Appreciate the reply ^_^
@@pickledjellocup4042 of course! So sorry it’s so late I haven’t been active on here in quite a while!
NEVER use a prong on a chiwawa, it will crush there traicia
Haha actually using a flat or chain on her would be more harmful to her trachea since it’s direct pressure on the front of her neck, whereas prong collars evenly displace the pressure. Also, it’s chihuahua, their, and trachea.
How rude.
Not rude, just facts 😊
@@riss.and.the.dogs321 It was a joke lol, i can't find the emojis i have a mini poodle service dog, Alls good
Hmm, you didn’t seem to be joking earlier but okay.
I would watch a prong they can cause serious injury even if used rightly my mum went to training with a man he was in class he used a prong almost ripped dogs ear off he was banned from class for good
Prongs are totally illegal in some county's including the UK they are painful very painful I've seen dogs have holes in skin and that's was one that's used right martingale collars are better for the dogs small dogs suffer collapsed tracia as well and have breathing issues
angels _up_in_heavenxx oh yah totally! I only very lightly correct her with it :) the picture you probably saw was a dog that was tied up on a prong for a very long time and of course that is the absolutely incorrect way to use a prong. If used properly in the right hands it cannot be dangerous but I’m very thankful for your input! 😊
And why use chains……/genq
I honestly cannot comprehend why you would use a prong collar on such a little dog.
@@riss.and.the.dogs321 ah that makes more sense.
