Hey Justin, you don't actually need to restart the game to access your newly installed sight. After you have installed the blk file you go back into the game and press ALT + F9 to update the game data and your custom sight should appear in the sights list.

This is a godsend, I usually spend a little while tweaking the sights once I install them and not having to constantly close and reopen the game will make that much quicker
If you change the sight in the test drive instead of the hangar you don´t have to do anything else. You can even copy new blk files in sights folder while game is running, just make sure to do so while you´re in hangar.
Alt+F9 only works if the sight you are using in a test drive or in game has been modified in any way. An alternate method is that you can delete “sight_1.blk” and click on “Add a grid sight” again in game.
I only use this system for historical sights, and I absolutely love it. Guy on WT Live named RideR2 has a very extensive collection of historical sights for every nation (except Israel), but sadly he doesn't update them anymore. Thankfully, another guy called Caff_Gunner has been adding and updating some.
Really adds a nice layer of historical accuracy to many tanks in the game, not to mention some absolutely awesome looking sights from Shermans to Abrams, T-34s to T-80s, etc.

NOTICE:for thoes who doesnt have the option for "use alternative grid sight" on the settings just switch to a tank when in yr garage, tried to find it while i was on an aircraft thats why it does not show up

Thanks Justin, finally got the rotating sights for the Panther tank.
To me user sights are an improvement for your favourite vehicles. Playing mainly on pc but coming from ps4, this thing was always my dream; now most of my modern vehicles use an user sight common to all (i don't remember who made the folder) which is a touch of fresh air on such tanks.
For other MBTs i use their "historical" sights, like Abrams, Leopards and some T-series tanks, but for the last some sights are tricky to use (like the T-72A, but it's interesting to point out the work and research behind such thing, for being just a user sight).
Also just push Alt+F9 in the game to load new sights after you've downloaded and moved to their relative folder in the User Sights folder. And check out that some of them have the colours changeable, but others not (i changed colours in mine sights to a bright green for the normal sight view and a dense red when you light the sight, helps a lot in NVD and thermal view, there are tutorial for these things if anybody wants to try🤓👨🏻💻)

It sucks that us on console can only use the stock sight, especially when playing the AVRE with its unusable sight.

the only custom sight that i found really awesome and and so much useful is german triangle historical sight. not judging else are bad, but it's personal preference. the soviet one are awesome also. the custom sight that don't have range scale number (not sure what exactly it call), i think it's bit tricky especially when you load the different velocity ammo and you forget about it, and send it anyway without ranging and then realize that you shot too short or so much higher.

Just wanted to drop a very belated "well done old boy" to this video. I'm only viewing it just now; however, I love these type of videos.
Half wish Gaijin would just put in their own custom sights for vehicles. Surely it can't be that difficult, just give all the top tiers for each nation their own custom sights and then you can give a few sights to some of the more famous WW2/Cold War vehicles and boom there you go.
Should also do a keybind set up that you use for ground / air

does anyone know how the all_tanks folder works? I tried to put a sight in there but none of the tanks have the option to switch to that sight in game (i have restarted ny game etc multiple times)

Justin. Just use Alt + F9. After it u can see sights and camo's. Works in battle or Test Drive

@@terrenceserrantes6751 Try rename the sight arquive. On hangar use Alt+F9, or in Test Drive. With some txt names it may not show up on F9 or reboot the client

u can refresh the sight by pressing ALT+F9 while driving then then open the option tap and u will find it
Can it be used to get more information about the elevation of ur gun?
I mean, when u are aiming at a target u can scroll to elevate the canon and u can see horizontal bars rising up AND a distance increasing.
Is it possible with custom sights to increase the maximum value? Like adding bars and if possible the distance number?
If yes, could it be somewhat reversed when the angle of canon is superior to 45°? Like having more horizontal bars but with somethkng to signify that range of shot is decresing?
Or is it possible to show the elevation of canon relative to the horizon?

Hey Justin Im on Mac whenever I select browse local files on my Mac all it shows up is the war thunder launcher and nothing else even after I add a grid sight I don’t know want to do and I’m looking for help
i downloaded a sight pack for all german tanks, do i have to select a specific tank from that packs file to put into the sight folder or can i just put all of them in there?

As a PS4 player we sadly don't have the market so we are stuck with the pre installed sights wich so far I have only found on the P40 T62 and T64, does anybody know any other tanks that have pre installed sights?

For those not on steam open warthunder launcher and task manager and then find WT then go to details open file location then on the file location bar press warthunder enjoy

warthunder should add sights for vehicles already in the game so you dont need to download stuff and do all this and they should have an option to use the standard sight

you specially mentioned to click the tank (choose) before going to the settings right? well does that mean the sight will be set just for that particular tank? what if. i want to do this for all my tanks what should I do then?

If you wish to set an optic for multiple vehicles, you will have to create folders for each vehicle then place the desired sight in each one. After that, it is just a matter of selecting it on the desired vehicles. Unfortunately there is no way to set a sight for all vehicles as they all utilize different presets due to different guns, ammo, etc. Some sight packs include pre-made folders for large amounts of vehicles, which turns it into a game of copying the desired folders over, rather than creating them through the game settings.

I have no clue why or how or even what it is, but when I download the sight from war thunder live that I want it download in a winrar file and not a BLK file. Please help I don't know why every I have is different from all of the tutorials.

So I used to have plenty of usersights installed, however- I had to do a full reset on all my files, I reinstalled the sights I had before but since the La Royal update I don't see the option to use alternative grid sights at all anymore when I go to my common battle settings, did Gaijin completely remove this feature?? I did everything the same way I did months ago, and I am puzzled by the fact that the setting doesn't even show up at all

Can I use custom sights if I play on the separate launcher on pc but I play using a console account? It should right? Considering ive been able to download and use user skins. Also you should make a similar guide for custom hangars and user missions as im sure you will do it well considering how simple and well explained this guide was.
If you are using a console account on pc, from the very same pc you can use user sights.
But if you switch back to the console, all of them are turned back to the default sight.
I'm from ps4 and playing mostly from PC right now, with many modern vehicles with user sights and some skins.

Hey Justin, I have a launcher version of the game is there any way for me to move it to my steam as I don't play through steam?
Yes there is, just download war thunder on steam, and pause it, now you should found the folder for it on the steam (open file location), now empty it and move all of your war thunder file to that folder and click verify file integrity on steam. Hopefully it won't corrupt but back up the file for precaution, when the file integrity check finished you should've find it ready to play on steam
