I Can't Believe What Just Happened... - MLB The Show 24 Franchise (Year 2) Ep.17

  • Today we begin the MLB The Show 24 Franchise with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards are far from being one of the weakest teams in baseball, but they do have one of the most uncertain future. This is an experienced team and one of the oldest in the MLB. Every starting pitcher is at least 32 years old. The best two position players have over 10 years experience. The Cardinals will have to rebuild this organization regardless of their success in the near future. I'm excited to work on restoring this franchise to a championship standard that they have not seen in the last decade.

The Brewers heard you say "If we lost every one of these remaining 34 games…" and took it as a personal challenge.

I got to be honest Cane, IRL if a player got to their fourth start with over an 8 era and then gave up a grand slam, they would be sent back down. I think keeping Tink up any longer would be malpractice for his development. No organization is throwing a player to the wolves like that, least of all one of their top prospects. You don't want to waste an entire year of his development because you need to see him struggle for another month and have him negate all the games he made in the minors. Roby might get development still, but honestly I think we should just go back to the old rotation and stick it out with the old regressing guys. Win or lose, Player Development Matters Most.

Man, playing Hence with no energy his first game and starting him out with negative momentum really is coming back to bite this team and his development specifically.

I dont know for sure, but every franchise I play, if you start someone off with a great first game they usually play to the best of their potential for the next few games. Which would increase ratings, which would make them play even better. The reverse also happens for me. Granted this is completely anecdotal, so it could be wrong

  • @Barista.Nathan

I mean I feel like this was always in the realm of possibilities, even if the underlying metrics were bad, you essentially demote two pictures who are performing well and put in two complete unknowns who have no major league experience.
Yeah, regression might have hit anyways and it's always good to see what the young guys can do long term, but when one of the guys has an over 8 era, you can't be shocked that you're struggling.

Rolling out a rookie with a 9.45 ERA in 3 starts during a tight division race late in the season would cause riots if it happened in real life. Can't do that, there has to be some replacement level organizational depth behind Hence

Went back to the 1st Draft episode, Arden Mercer was drafted with 80-92 potential and an overall range of 57-69 (just as he was in the first draft). Just thought I'd let you know that the range didn't change at all (don't know if the actual number in the range which ended up being +5 on the minimum [85 potential + 62 overall] actually changed or not), but the conclusion is that his ratings didn't change most likely.

On the one hand, the bottom falling out like that was hard to watch. On the other hand, something had to give considering how much the team has been overachieving all season.
A September collapse largely against the Brewers, though, is one you couldn't write if you tried!

  • @chancepriest2279
    @chancepriest2279 2 месяца назад +1

Hey Cane, in my franchise this year they way I have gotten around the player lock issues (at least with pitchers) is just using quick manage and simulating when my team is batting. Then you can take out the pitcher when you feel is right and play out the rest of the game. Then you could have pitched that inning the brewery’s put up three instead of simulating it. You can also go into team select and switch to the other team then switch back over to cancel player lock

Cane made the mistake that nearly every RUclipsr makes with MLB The Show games. They get a prospect with a high 60s overall and they say “oh he’s ready” … Noooooo!
From personal experience with these games a player in The Show is NEVER ready until they are over that 70 overall mark.
It was a huge mistake to promote both Roby and Hence when he did. The better option would have been to promote one or both at the Sept. call up.

IMO neither starting pitcher warranted going down in the first place as your team was playing amazing all year you should call them both back up and def send tink hence down as he’s clearly not ready. This way you can still bring up either Scott or Wynn as well. But no matter what tink needs to go down or ur gonna ruin his growth. U can bring up one of the starters and if u have a reliever doing good try him too and still choose between Scott and Wynn. Good luck

I’m just so confused as to why you took both veterans off the mlb roster who were having decent years while in first place and coasting towards a division title. R u trying to lose on purpose with the thought it’s too early to win in ur rebuild? If that’s the case I get it cus by making no moves at the deadline and bringing up two rookies with no mlb experience it has to that option. If u tell me otherwise I don’t believe you cane lol u have ran too many franchises to make that many awful decisions on one year. Like I said in the past all u needed to do was get one more solid number 2,3, or 4 starter and a bench bat and maybe a good reliever and ur team could have won a championship this year the way ur offense was dominating and still continues to do so with 30 games left. The two rookies should not have been brought up 100% as they were doing good but not great and they replaced two vets who Nikolas was doing good and Gibson wasn’t good but wasn’t awful for a number 5 and both players are better than the two rookies rn. Tell me u threw it not to win so soon and to get a better pick lol

Bro vs the brewers u gotta stop hanging breaking balls omg every batter and even on an 0-2 count? Why? U shouldn’t be throwing a slider that’s a strike at all let alone a pitch that is in the zone from the tine it leaves the pitchers hand to the tine it’s caught. Right down the middle breaking to the inside corner vs a lefty w a righty pitcher. That pitch has to Miss Low or inside by quite a bit. 0-2 make him chase don’t throw him a strike cmon cane u know better than that
