  • In the video, I have discussed a simple and effective method to draw the correct Felkin-Anh model for any carbonyl compound having chiral center at alpha position. Based on this model, observed diastereoselectivity can be explained.
    Video Chapter Timeline:
    0:00 Introduction
    0:47 Why do we need Felkin-Anh Model?
    2:15 What is Felkin-Anh Model?
    5:16 How to draw correct Felkin-Anh Model, when stereochemistry is specified in molecule?
    18:34 How to draw correct Felkin-Anh Model, when stereochemistry is not specified in molecule?

    Thank you so much, I now totally understand the Felkin-Ahn model ! I couldn't understand why the representation of the Felkin-Ahn model was different sometimes ! I'm now ready for my test, I guess, thanks again

      Dear Nutan, Can you please assign the R/S configuration to both the compounds at the bottom left on 11:40 ? If you do so, I am sure you will get the answer to your question. Let me know if the configuration is same or different. Okay. Cheers. Have a nice day.

      Dear friend You are just rotating it but saying it's mirror image..That's small mistake rest is flawless

    A little spelling mistake Anh not Ahn, but who cares as long as the chemistry is correct. 🙂

  • @psychemist

    18:09 Do not take mirror image there.
    Mirror image produces stereo inversion and this will not serve your purpose here. You better say just rotate the molecule 180° perpendicular to the plane of paper.

      💯 AGREE., SOMEONE ALSO POINTED THE MISTAKE, I AM UNABLE TO ADD THAT VIA EDIT ON THE VIDEO. ANYWAY, I REALLY APPRECIATE THE COMMENT.

    sir but 11:28 ur method is so difficult to understand

    • @ChemoSpecific
      @ChemoSpecific  5 лет назад +1

      The reason why I took the mirror image is because in the answer that is how sterochemistry is shown. If you are attempting this question in the exam where options are not given you don't need to take the mirror image. Both the representation have same sterochemistry and both are correct.
