    Going to share a secret with the hobby knife : rubber thumb. Then cut toward thumb delicately.
    Never hurt myself in 15 years. And, if you can, invest in high quality nippers. They make a world of difference.

    • @DaJemmen
      @DaJemmen  3 года назад +6

      I actually do the same as you've said except for the rubber thumb! I just make sure the blade I use is sharp so that I don't need to put too much force into carving towards myself, making it less likely that i cut myself.
      Haven't cut myself for about 2 years now 😁

    I've been building plastic model kits for over 40 years, yes, I'm ancient 🤣 These Bandai kits are awesome. Just picked up the MG Hyaku-Shiki 2.0 today. I pretty much use all of the techniques you demonstrate. Excellent tips for beginners. I use the small retractable razor knives with the snap off blades because they are easier for me to hold onto. Still, the times when they slip, horrific! 😁Be very careful. For those of you on a budget, you can find a lot of handy items at the dollar/pound shops cheap cheap cheap! Nail buffers, blades, super glue. for those pesky v-fins etc that wont stay put. A plus on the video sir!

    • @DaJemmen
      @DaJemmen  3 года назад

      I've actually been contemplating getting one of those box cutters you mentioned because the blades are much cheaper to replace! I've also had some accidents with the blade so I made sure to mention in this video to be careful. I agree, there are a lot of tools and materials you could get for cheap.
      Glad to see even long time hobbyists approve of the tips in my video. Thanks for passing by! 🙏 Please consider subscribing if you're interested, would appreciate the support 😁

    Noob to noob:
    My method with the x-acto knife is to cut away using my left hand, even though i am (mostly) right handed. If this feels uncomfortable for you, dont do this, but for me it feels natural. I also wear glasses to protect from flying debris and the knife. Also, make sure to make fine cuts because i messed up and the blade broke and flew into my face. 💀
    One heads up is that you *will* cut yourself if you arent careful.
    Hope this helps.... ive built 5 kits so far and its been fun learning from experience.
    One of my rules in life is to never cut towards myself, whether its opening an envelope or scissors.

    • @DaJemmen
      @DaJemmen  3 года назад +1

      I agree, it boils down to how comfortable you are with doing it. I just find cutting towards myself a lot more stable. I've never had to cut with a knife hard enough that my face would be in danger, but thanks for the safety glasses tip 👌 this has been my method for around 20+ Master Grades and High grades haha just really have to be careful.

    For using the blade to cut off nubs I use more of a shaving technique. If you hold the blade at a 45 degree angle to the part then lightly drag across you can remove it bit by bit. This works best if your knife has some weight, you can let the weight of the blade do the work. Most important part to this style DO NOT press down or you will risk digging into the part. Once you have it down you can even take off mould lines. You may still need to sand afterwards though do restore the surface finish.

    I love model building, but I honestly hope that Gunpla will release models where you don’t have to cut them out. There’s enough plastic waste in the world as it is and unfortunately the best method of cutting them out requires cutting off tiny pieces from the model parts and sanding them down, turning plastic into tiny bits.

    Hi there, have a lot of beautiful kits and a few of them done. But I used to work with markers to pannel line, and then I saw everyone turned in favor of the Tamiya Accent color. I have all it's black/grey/brown shades and I really like how it can be subtelty brushed insted of having to literally paint a line. But the other day I found my Dagger-L completely shattered, the visor had cracks, also parts on the arms... And then I remembered people advising to use those on bear plastic to your own risk. Why is that no one ever explains so? I fucked up my entire kit yet I never had to put any coat BEFORE pannel lining in my unpainted kits. People, be careful. A lot of great Gunpla channels never tell you so, is it because they've never had the issue? Is it because they are... branding? Any recommendation is appreciated. ¿Maybe I pour too much? ¿Maybe it is the Dagger-L plastic itself? ¿Is it just a lottery? Thanks mate. I'm also not a pro at all, not a newbie either but... on my way. Like your channel. Cheers from Spain.

I think i might get the MG Zaku but i want to get the MG Sniper II war in a pocket (i think thats what its called) it will look great for my "story line" for the next Steel Samurai. Pls give me sudgestions of MG Grunt suits of you can

      @@spisee5445 the GM sniper 2 is definitely a solid kit! There are actually a lot of variations of that kit. If you want something more basic looking, you can try the GM Command Colony type. Its like a brown/sand version of the sniper 😉

      Better to go higher and higher instead of going straight to highest because the surface wont even out if you just jump to the highest.

      Found them in Toy's R Us at the Gunpla section. Altho I wouldn't recommend them for having a smooth surface because these metal files have really low grit made for grinding, not smoothening.
