Magnum Homesteader have you seen gm, ford or dodge have recalls for frames rusting in half? Because in the 90s, 00s, and when the 10, 11, 12, 13 and so on have frame rusting issues
It gives the trucks the advantage because they are pulling at a much lower center of gravity giving them far superior traction! Where as the dozer is pulling at such a high point hes getting minimal traction and getting lifted so hes not able to gain full traction.
What are you talking about? The chain was attached HIGHER than the whiffletree (the I-beam). When they pull on it, it's pulling BACK and DOWN, grinding the tracks into the ground. You are totally backward. If the chain had been hooked to the hook on the back of the dozer and a hook on the back of a TALLER machie, THEN it would be lifting the weight. Watch it again, and if you still think it's "lifting" the dozer, you're wrong. Even if it WAS lifting the front, it'd still be forcing the REAR of the tracks down into the soil, like one of those portable towing anchors.
I get that there are people talking about the physics of ground force and traction, but if you watch the video you can clearly see that the front of the dozer was lifted off the ground. This prevented it from hooking up but it still put up a helluva fight. Should have been attached from the rear.

The way it was chained to the blade, it pulled the front end of the dozer up, and reduced the traction on it. That's a good part of the pushing power of the D8.
Wrong. The trucks are hooked BELOW the chain. The chain is pulling BACK and DOWN. Open your eyes. Even if it was pulling straight back, it'd be lifting the FRONT, transferring all the weight to the BACK of the tracks, driving them into the ground.
justforever96 yeah but look at the ground to get maximum traction you need all the track on the ground the back might end up with more weight but it is still going to slip more have you ever had any experience with tracked equipment?

The D8 driver failed. I felt he didn't give it enough RPMs leading up to the tug, turns out he nearly stalled the dozer out of the gate. He should of had the RPMs at 3/4 throttle so when the tug started, he had the power available to the tracks. Don't think the results would have been any different, but I would have liked to have seen it done better.
Well, there's a wasted minute and 25 seconds I can never get back! LOL. I'd like to see the same pull, but with an 11N dozer, a 651 scrapper, etc., instead of an old Cat D8. The outcome would have been dramatically different.
O operador da D8 não acelerou o suficiente, Se desse giro no motor apesar de ter menos potencia que os 20 Toyotas, Seu peso e tração fariam toda a diferença!
+Justin Logue Little boy. What the hell do you know ? I was Heavy Equipment Mechanic. I know for a fucking fact there is a D12 Dozer. Look it up bitch...
I believe this demonstrates the true notion that people have far too much time on their hands. The D8 should have pulled those 20 "toys" and 20 more like they were matchbox cars. Perhaps the Dozer driver was being polite. Me, I would have pulled those Japanese relics around the moon and back. BTW, A D11R would have pulled all those toys plus 20 more easily. 🔧
+Erika Krausmann Hi, Erika K. May I suggest that you stop for a moment and do some math. That D8 would weigh at most about 24 - 25 tons. There would be maybe 35 - 40 tons plus in those 20 Toyotas. The D8 has around 160 hp. The 20 toyotas between them probably run to nearer 1,800 to 2,000 horsepower if they are all up near full revs. The hitch is not in the D8's favour. Whoever dreamed that one up either KNEW what they were doing and set it up to favour the Toyotas or they didn't have a clue about traction and balance. As soon as the weight came on those two chains to the top corners of the blade, the blade pulled hard up against the sheave block at the top of the D8's radiator, which immediately caused the front of the tractor to lift, thus taking the weight off the front of the tracks. Goodbye, traction. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
your a moron...while the d8 was being towed...backwards...his tracks were spinning...no d8 will outpull 20 anything...well maybe 20 pintos or geos...some even said he should have dropped his blade...if you watch even that isnt an option...it was lifted higher up by the force or the toyotas...go try and sound smart someplace else troll
a d11 is 3x the power 3x the weight...and modern...if you want to be a tool then lets use 20 fullsize american v8 tundras instead of 4 cylinders...same shit different day...
+Deas Plant Horsepower doesn't play that much of a factor when your working with earthmoving equipment, a dozer has a very well equipped gear system to turn that 160hp into enormous amounts of torque, which is what is important when considering pulling. clearly the dozer has the power but cannot get traction to put it down, a dozer is designed to work forward under force, that's how it gets traction.
+Ethan Hardwick Sir, I believe that IF you READ my post above AS POSTED instead of looking to pick issues, you will see that I mention the traction issues and explain why the hitch arrangement is working against the D8. I note that you didn't mention any of that explanation in YOUR post Just in case you are under any illusions about my knowledge of 'dozers in particular and earth moving equipment in general, their capabilities and the how and why of their effectiveness, I have only been operating them, from smallest to almost the biggest, for around 55 years. My peers seem to think that my apprenticeship is progressing nicely. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes, Deas Plant.
The treads on the Cat look a little (like a lot) worn down. Kinda hard to get traction when your treads are nearly gone. Try that with new treads on the Cat and it will be a tie at best for the SUVs.

I thumbs down you because this was a pointless test as anyone could have told you the outcome here based on weight...would have been much cooler to see something like oh i don't know a D-11 vs 40 maybe 50
+TrayBiz1 Thanks, i made the video while spectating this.. so...? :P
+Dion den Braber No really thanks for posting tho still entertaining non the less
+TrayBiz1 Regardless it is cool.. Just because ive seen nothing like it.. And its cool to theorize.. But really cool to see... No doubt I would say put a D10r or 11 up there... But thanks for the video... What this set up by you or?
D8T weighs 90,000 pounds. I am guessing a jeep weighs about 4,000???
Shut up you asshat
Today's d8 would hold them down for the count
Everyone cheering like a bunch of 5 year olds cause they tripped an 18 year old.
CAT: "Wait till my big brother hears about this!" 😂😂
Trabalhei numa carbonífera que tinha 5 Cat D8.Pensa num trator bruto.
Where do all these events take place?
O Trator estava num areado, se estivesse num piso antiderrapante ou num asfalto?
Американцы знают толк в шоу и в рекламе👏👏👏
Thinking of this in a free body diagram, there is no difference in serial and parallel force (jeeps in a serial x parallel arrangement)?
How many of the FJ 40s had small block engines?
The D8 only lost because it lost traction.
What does this prove?
Well, there's a wasted minute and 25 seconds I can never get back! LOL.
I'd like to see the same pull, but with an 11N dozer, a 651 scrapper, etc., instead of an old Cat D8. The outcome would have been dramatically different.
no shit sherlock :p
O operador da D8 não acelerou o suficiente, Se desse giro no motor apesar de ter menos potencia que os 20 Toyotas, Seu peso e tração fariam toda a diferença!
What toyota?
Why were the chains attached to the blade
Miss my 76 Land Crusher ☹️☹️ it had a 307 CHEV SM 420 trans 33" tires , bikini top
Been looking around for another one
That D8 is a fucking a Relic
I like to see them try that shit with the new upgraded D12.
See if those guys be whistling after that... lol

Little boy.
What the hell do you know ?
I was Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
I know for a fucking fact there is a D12 Dozer.
Look it up bitch...
Not what I expected to see
Yep in softer dirt, with new pads and hooked up for maximum traction on the cat it would have been a different story
What a cool thing to do on a day off
I believe this demonstrates the true notion that people have far too much time on their hands. The D8 should have pulled those 20 "toys" and 20 more like they were matchbox cars. Perhaps the Dozer driver was being polite. Me, I would have pulled those Japanese relics around the moon and back.
BTW, A D11R would have pulled all those toys plus 20 more easily.

Hi, Erika K.
I note that you didn't mention any of that explanation in YOUR post
Just in case you are under any illusions about my knowledge of 'dozers in particular and earth moving equipment in general, their capabilities and the how and why of their effectiveness, I have only been operating them, from smallest to almost the biggest, for around 55 years. My peers seem to think that my apprenticeship is progressing nicely.

The treads on the Cat look a little (like a lot) worn down. Kinda hard to get traction when your treads are nearly gone. Try that with new treads on the Cat and it will be a tie at best for the SUVs.
Back in the 70 nissan used to build posi differential. Used to put them on the nissan junior/ homer.
Toyota put them on the stout 2000 series.back in the 70.
We used to go to the finca de cafe with 2 ton of fertilizer. And those truck where unstoppable. Those roads where real challenge not like this one.
