Benjamin Zander
Pre-concert talk recorded live at Sanders Theatre in November, 2019, preceding the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra performance.
What a wonderful, excellent review of this magnificent, beautiful work of music! Thank you, Maestro Zander!
Thank you so much for the incite into Rachmaninoff's thoughts in this composition. You have brought me and others many many hours of pleasure whether it is in your interpretation with an orchestra or bringing out the inner interpretation in your illustrative talks with students and an audience. Would love to see you at the ROHCG or the proms. Let us hope it could happen if you were willing to fly across the pond.
Zander: to know him is to love him.
Maestro Zander thanks so much for the insights... there was a period in my youth that I played the symphonic dances thousands of times, basically on permanent (cassette) repeat. Not playing this piece is one of the disappointments of my life.
That ending makes complete sense of the sequence. "...not with a bang but a whimper..." - or perhaps both
so captivating : )
I guess this is the recently discovered recording Zander is talking about: ruclips.net/video/L3Xp2Djqh3s/видео.html
