That hill was an absolute beast, watching you guys walk your bikes up it made me grateful that I switched back to flat pedals. Just the thought of hiking in bike shoes made me cringe. Thanks for the video.
I feel so badly for James. While a tough day on the bike is better than most other days, there's a limit to how much suffering you can take. Hopefully he'll feel better and be able to enjoy the rest of the trip.
The mountain roads in northern Thailand will be crazy steep in parts and you will need very low gearing if you wish to go up them with bags and an averagely fit body. Also there is no need to carry too much water and food as there are restaurants and convenience stores along the way. anyone who wish to cycle Thailand can DM me. More than glad to provide pointers and help. Thailand is a wonderful place for cyclists!
Exactly, why cycle across the central plains which will be boring and likely dangerous? Make the north a base with a proper road bike and explore the hills of Chiang Mai, Chaing Rai and Nan. Just wait until they ride out of Bangkok down south where they will be stuck on the main highway most of the time. And Phuket would be a good place to ride, but not during the high tourist season.
Who is advising you on the route? You are going all the hard ways. You rode past my house so I know these roads. You should have done the Mae Hong Son loop which is one of the best cycling routes in the north of Thailand and then gone down to Mae Sot and then cut across and down to Bangkok. Anyway riding is always an adventure so enjoy.
The Doi Inthanon climb from Mae Win is crazy. Anybody doing that would have a serious hard day. The MHS option or climb from Chom Thon would be a bit more doable....
So glad I found Cade media years back ^^. All I had was GCN and... well... Since they no longer have GCN+, this does nicely! Thank you kindly, Francis and team!
James's bike is by far the most expensive but is the one that isn't fit for purpose. Go figure. Glad the original project trio are back. I will look forward to watching all your vids.
Doi Inthanon is a killer. The 7-11s are great and ready meals and toasties are a life saver. For isotonic drinks Power100 andthere is also one in a yellow bottle - life savers
The elephant stuff was hilarious, it made me laugh out loud. James, there's no shame in looking after your health - do whatever is necessary to complete the journey safely.
Used to pull my jersey down to my pants all the time until I put some velcro between the bibs and the jersey. I do it to all my kit it's awesome. And I think it's more aero too.
Poor guy cramps like a mad man in Death Valley….now very sick in Thailand. Get well and stay safe, fellas. Can also confirm that I’ve never seen a 7-11 like that state side!
I just just watched the video of james and his bike set up and at the end when he weighs it you can see the front wheel just dive because of the weight.
@@leighharwood9415 true, but have you ever seen a road sign in Thailand other than 8%? So logically this means that either there are no steeper hills or the Thai government got a killer deal on 8% signs.
Those climbs carrying all that weight on the bike would bring most people to their knees. Could you not get all the kit off James's bike and have it transported to your next destination by car? He's had a lot to deal with this past year and I wish him well.
I used to ride in Chiang Mai. The road is steep. However, it’s quite rewarding experience. PS. I forgot to tell that Thai people in rural areas have good hospitality. They may ask you a lot. However, their English might not be good. :)
this is a good advertisement for people that think they should do things just because they signed up or planned them. If you are sick, didn't train, etc. then dont do them! Its okay to let the chance pass
I just find it fascinating how intelligent and different an elephants intelligence is . They have huge brains with 97.1% of the neurons in the cerebellum and even have highly developed olfactory nerves
I have that jersey James. It's lovely. BUT I only use for late Spring and then again early autumn here in South France because the material is very soft but a little thick. Too much for summer even here. Why? 'Rookie error' right there!
The way James is Bobbing I think he needs a bike fit😅😮
I know. He's making me seasick and its going to cause him neck pain
Prob needs some new shoes too and a shorter bar!
Defo needs some G8 footbeds and a wider Q factor 😂
Saddle looks low too.
I know, very gorilla like stance on the bike, and an unpleasant pedalling action
"The 3 Amigos" are back. This is gonna be good 🤙
That hill was an absolute beast, watching you guys walk your bikes up it made me grateful that I switched back to flat pedals. Just the thought of hiking in bike shoes made me cringe. Thanks for the video.
Brutal. Glad James wised up and decided to take it easy. Send good vibes that he feels better soon.

Bike-fit James is such a joy. I wish we had one of him out here in San Francisco.🤩Valued addition to this adventure!
Another bikepacking series? Super yay!
Its good to see that even the pro's push their bikes up some hills. Makes me feel a lot better about walking some of the hills.
@paralogregt haha yeah but to be fair their bikes are loaded to 20kgs+
@ toured in scotland for the first time ever and mine was well over 20kg
@@paralogregt it could be the heat.
Great to see the three of you back together, I'm looking forward to this adventure .. Enjoy!

Can confirm James is broke 😅
😂
He's done pretty well considering.
Please take care of him🤗
Considering he got the tube tow AND still rode on the back of a truck. Hope he gets better and figures out what is going on with his bike.
Physically and financially since losing his wallet

@@the_derpler Somebody buy them a copy of Lonely Planet 😉
Mae Hong Son loop is so good. One of my favourites
MHS is still pretty tough on a loaded bike like they have 😅

i love how lawrence is everybody´s uplift.
When did James start bobbing on the bike. He's making me seasick just watching him. He could save a lot of energy sorting that out
@buzzman4860 i think James has been so unwell his thought process has been off. He probably through his bike and the luggage together on autopilot.
James's bike is by far the most expensive but is the one that isn't fit for purpose. Go figure. Glad the original project trio are back. I will look forward to watching all your vids.
You 3 are brilliant together, make sure James doesn't push himself too much
2100m is no joke on a bike with that much weight and no real training. No shame in that game, James.
lmao, I am dying even on 200m 7% steep climb xD
Google Translate can translate things you point the camera at. Also, yeah 7-11's are dope as in Thailand.
as a local thai, i watched your malaysia series and wished please thailand next. now its happening! best of luck guys.
James, new idea for your fit sessions! Loaded bike packing fittings! And proper gearing! 😉
And sort out that bobbing
It's great to see the trio united again! Let's hope James bounces back to his full salty form!
Nice to see you here, Big fan from Thailand 🇹🇭
Glad it’s still in Asia, brilliant 👏.
You always inspire us to see the world. Poor James. I hope he sticks with it.
6:03 "there's a f*** elephant coming down the road." "no there isn't" "oh there is"
Start as you mean to go on … glad to see you picked up where the last lads tour ended ;)
Hang in there BFJ. We're rooting for you!
Doi Inthanon is a killer. The 7-11s are great and ready meals and toasties are a life saver. For isotonic drinks Power100 andthere is also one in a yellow bottle - life savers
Francis - you are looking lean pal. 3rd Yates's twin was my first thought! Hope the rest of the trip goes well
Hahah Yes Thailand does not seem to ever (rarely) use switchbacks they just plow a road up & over things. Good Luck! Looking forward to this!!
That is amazing, have a fantastic, safe and fun journey.
7/Toastie is peak Thailand experience. Your're welcome.
i miss thailand. such fond memories of doi inthanon.
The elephant stuff was hilarious, it made me laugh out loud. James, there's no shame in looking after your health - do whatever is necessary to complete the journey safely.
Lesssgoo! Just Arrived in Thailand to spend time with my Parents and it was first time bringing my bike with me...

Poor James. Hopefully he feels much better soon.
Share all your route. When are you going to pass Hua Hin? May be I'll have a chance to ride part of your route with you.
Over 2000m is a LOT of climbing. Even more so with loaded bikes. Bravo.
Did James consider having a bike fit before he left London ✈️?
😂 I was wondering the same thing 😂
I have TWO 7-11 Shops in 1/2 mile. Yes, they do, somewhat, look after you. Going to be a fun ride with James.
If James has been on Prenisolone, his appetite and rage would be off the scale.
711 in asia is just top tier. Cheers from Singapore!
I’d love to see an MTB/more off-road version of these trips. Keep on guys!
I just just watched the video of james and his bike set up and at the end when he weighs it you can see the front wheel just dive because of the weight.
Thanks Francis , James , and Lawrence ! Be safe , no more losing stuff.
You should call these travel vlogs “Sick Guys on Sick Rides!”
YESSSSS !!!!! James is back I am so PUMPED 💪😂😂😂
Im hyped, the india series was crazyyy

The original trio are back 🙏🏻
I missed James! Hope he can join you back up soon
Geez, in my home town and I didn't know... would have shouted youse all a beer.... pretty lumpy towards Lampang, then flat as a tack
More like Bike-sick James right now. Hope you feel better James
One of y’all need to keep the flappy tee tradition going ❤️
My understanding is that riding up Doi Inthanon now requires vehicle support and descending on a bike is not allowed.
Correct. You can't descend. Even the road there is now banned
9:31 if you look at that road sign you will discover that there are no hills steeper than 8% in Thailand.
There's a collection of ramps on the climb between 13% and 25% .. averages can be deceiving.
1 kilometre averages nearly 15%
@@leighharwood9415 true, but have you ever seen a road sign in Thailand other than 8%? So logically this means that either there are no steeper hills or the Thai government got a killer deal on 8% signs.

When in trouble someone turns up to help, hope James feels better, I don't think he needs to apologise that climb was nuts.
Fantastic everyone 👏👏👏

Been following your adventures for a while, love your content, please keep them coming. What is the laptop case Lawrence is using on his tailfin?
Back to back trips?! Spoiling us lads!
Your description of 'pot luck' in the 7/11 rather made me smile (it being Asia and all that!)
James the bike fitter wont be using him anytime soon
James represents most of us
Looks suspiciously like bike touring to me. Definitely tarmac flavoured.
Welcome to Chiang Mai! If you have the time, there are plenty more challenging routes for cyclists to explore.😄😄😄
Loving this!!!!!
In Thailand now, hope you guys do a meetup in Bangkok
Digging Lawrence's glasses in white.
OAKLEYS 🎉
@bbikerlawrence yup, I got the same pair in black. Love em. But the white looks better to me.
Would have done it with smaller cranks 😂
the arrogance has caught up to James :) he needs a bike fit lol
I just find it fascinating how intelligent and different an elephants intelligence is . They have huge brains with 97.1% of the neurons in the cerebellum and even have highly developed olfactory nerves
Usualy i try to be funny under these videos.
I just hope James gets well enough to ride with you guys soon.
Thailand is an absolute dream for cyclists. Mostly flat but very very nice.
Why is it that the bike fitter looks like he needs a bike fit 😂
I have that jersey James. It's lovely. BUT I only use for late Spring and then again early autumn here in South France because the material is very soft but a little thick. Too much for summer even here. Why? 'Rookie error' right there!
No Benjamin Chappers but still very good
How is the bike fitter so busy on the bike ?!
Morning, I know your on your ride at the time. Here in So Cal it 80 degs. 26. But I have to ask, why don’t you wear a Camelback water bladder?
I second the needs a bike fit. Who is he getting fitted by?
Stop killing James!
James, James , James
Is that a wedding ring on Lawrence's finger? I haven't been watching his channel enough apparently!
9:45 I thought it was a Panaracer fridge for a sec
The 7/11 looks like the ones in Japan. I forgot that they have them in America too.
Poor James looks so ill. Take care of yourselves
Sawadee-cap! 🧢
You need a sub compact in northern Thailand! 46/30 with a 34 in the back will do it 😅
No, it won't. What's good for 10% is TWICE too big for 20%.
Need a 24x36 granny for some of that! Mtb cranks.
Illness seems to be the #1 problem every trip. That sucks
6:03 ....oh there is 😂😂😂
that's why they call them push bikes
Absolutely CONKED
Hadn't realized this is country number two which drives on the same side as the UK.
It’s just not right.
