I’m 4 weeks post-op and just happened to remember I had a massager like this and hoped it would help with thigh tightness and spasms- it does! Yay! Some relief! I can’t wait to try it on the bike.

I am 12 days post off TKR, I have begun using the theragun massager several times a day. Haven't tried it on the bike though, great idea. My quad and it band on TKR leg are very tight and I believe the gun has certainly helped.

Tony, I have not tried a massage gun but for me, my best pain relieve during my exercises is a strapped on Ice pack. What keeps us from doing more & more of our exercises is the pain. The Ice packs numb my leg, i use 2 of them, one just above the knee & another 1 just below the knee so I can flex the knee with out the packs restricting my extension or flexion. I can do so much more with the ice packs in place during my exercises than I could ever do without them because I feel zero pain. Thank you for the info on the massage gun, I will have to get one & try it.

One month postoperative.I have a neck massager that I’ve been using on my legs since it’s about the same diameter as my neck. That helps immensely with the phantom pain that I am now experiencing deep down within the leg from the knee section up to the hip. I also have another massager it’s on the handle and I have use that also which helps but I am looking into possibly using it while I am on the exercise bicycle.

From personal experience I found the Theragun to be painful especially afterwards.

I was gifted a message gun for Christmas....I was like “Hmmmmmm....? I wonder if I can somehow use this to gain ROM?” ....I search, and here YOU are for ME, again!!! Thanks!!!

You mentioned having a pinching or pain in the back of the knee when trying to flex. That has been my problem with both replacements. I have good ROM and 0 extension, however, I have a lot of pain on flexion. I was able to get in and out of a kayak after surgery but now I have too much pain in the back of both knees. Could it be Baker’s cysts? I had them before surgery. Is it safe to use the massage gun on the back of the knee? I like the gun for the muscles on the rest of the leg. It really helps.

I have a small gun and love it! It definitely distracts from discomfort and gives me relief.

These guns could be vastly improved if they included gentle warmth.

  • @kcduncan4458

I had TKR done four months ago and I had to have a manipulation as well, it helped a lot. Recently I bought a massage gun, thanks for the tips of using it while moving the leg. How often do you suggest using it?

  • @karenaiken3385

Hi Tony, the impingement is exactly what is happening to my knee at 6 weeks wben going down the stairs and when on the stationary back. My IT bands are exceptionally tight on both sides to the point my lower back has veen spasming and i was having trouble putting weight on the opposite leg (left) to take a step. Thanks for this tip. My range is great but perhsps i was doing too much these past few days and suddenly i am having new issues to deal with. Does the impingement go away once setled down or is this something you have to settle down and it will keep happening with a TKR?

I have one. I am 16 weeks post op. I have never used the gun on a bike....do you think it could be beneficial for increasing range of motion?

  • @geraldarcuri9307

I have found that the pedal straps on my recumbent are killers! I removed them. I don't need them to pedal at 1 rpm, and they seem to twist my leg out of a correct alignment for pedaling.

I have a ikeepfit Pneumatic calf massager,I am 7 weeks post Knee replacement can I use it without problem?
