A pretty piece of blood wood: wood turning

  • I have a blood lwood log, but the central part is rotten, I can only use the surrounding part, so I thought of this method.

    I started wood turning late, in my late 60s, and am largely self-taught. Watching your videos has been a great inspiration to me. I am highly respectful of your ingenuity and artistic talents.     You are steadily becoming my favourite woodturner on RUclips with your works of art. I'm pleased to see that you are unfraid to use carbon as well as traditional tools. When I first started turning I was frowned upon by some of the traditionalists for using carbon. I have long passed that stage and use whatever it takes to get the job done.

    I really like the way you remounted the piece in the Chuck after the catch. Always difficult to get it lined up properly and that is a tip I shall remember. Great video as always.

    Nice work, but at the end where you were displaying the finished piece the lighting was blowing out the exposure so all the colours were off.

    Beautiful piece. Late time I work with blood wood I got bad sick that's when I found out the dust is slightly toxic and causes nausea. Did you use a respirator ?

      Yes, David, I'm allergic to a many kinds of sawdust, My symptoms are sneezing and runny nose, so I always wear a gas mask,😂😂😂😂

    Would You please tell me where and what is blood wood and can I get a small piece? No I'm not a turner or artist I would just love to see it, the video is a true blood red color
    And i have said this before You are a FABULOUS ARTIST I would like to know how much Your most inexpensive piece would be I understand that this question is not what You want to hear but I have a very limited amount of money these days but I love Your work ❤ Thank You for sharing

      Thank you so much, Lorraine . I'm in China. The blood wood here comes from Tanzania. I don't know which country you are in, but I think your local timber merchants may know where to buy it. The lowest price of my work is USD 100, but the freight should also be considered. Because of covid-19, the current international logistics freight is very high, about USD 300 to the United States and USD 200 to the United Kingdom.

    I hate to sound like a know it all but you had your tendon way too big cause chuck jaws only make complete surface contact when they are 1/16" or less from being completely closed.

    The volume of wastage compared to the end result was not satisfying. The bowl was not bad but sadly the amount of wood wasted left a bitter taste in the end.
