While grieving his mom who had recently passed away, he woke one morning with "she's back in the atmosphere" running through his mind. He then imagined his mom floating in space getting "drops of Jupiter" in her hair. Wondering what if those we love and lose could still be here, in a different way, he imagined his mom was "back in the atmosphere". This song is the result! Check out the "permanent scar" on his chin.

The song was to his mother after she died. My take is that she was a kind of hippie that was looking for freedom of the mind and would often go off on tangents that left him wondering if she found what she was looking for. favorite line, "your best friend always sticking up for you, even when I know your wrong." That shows how much he loved her.

Many years ago I was out observing the sky through my telescope with a friend, and she said one of her kids, who was maybe 14 or 15 at the time, had dedicated this song to her on a local radio station for her birthday, because she was such an avid stargazer/amateur astronomer. He died just a few years later, in his early 20s, having lost his battle for sobriety, and every time I hear this song I think about him, his smile when there was still innocence in his eyes, and how happy his mom was that night under the stars.

The lyrics never made much sense to me. Then the night before my mom's funeral, jetlagged, distraught and exhausted, this song started playing in my head. I was as many days old then, when I thought, I wonder if this song has anything to do with loss, and googled the story behind it. It's funny how art works... And while there are tunes and lyrics, this is absolute poetry and art in its truest sense.

So the song came to him in a dream and he got up wrote it down and sang it into a dictaphone, wrote it in about 30 minutes the next night before he went to bed he finished up the song! The rest is history it’s a beautiful song 🎶

Beautiful song about his mother. Pqt said the song came to him in a dream after his mother passed away. I feel the song is lyrical masterpiece. You should listen to pat sing acapella, no mic, just another guy playing guitar and pat's talent. Amazing! I get chills everytime I hear this song!

I love that you genuinely appreciate the song just as I do. They have many great songs! You should also check out Third Eye Blind as well. Songs such as “jumper” “How’s It Going to Be” or “Deep Inside of You”. They are great!

Wow, was reading the comments while listening, didn't know, otherwise, it was a song TO his mother. Made me think of mine. Beautiful. Thanks.

To me this was a two-way conversation between a recently deceased mother and her son. Maybe long-standing things or questions were left unsaid or unanswered, before her passing, an longing or experience many have been through I'm sure. We got the pleasure of this singer sharing this most intimate moment, that apparently came to him in a dream.

I love this song so much. Never knew it was about his mom. But it was such a huge hit.
Marry, me; Save me, San Francisco; Bruises; 50 ways to say goodbye; You Can Finally Meet My Mom; Don't Grow Up So Fast; are some of my favorites.

I didn't know Howie Mandel played guitar. LOL This is by far the greatest tribute to a mother that I have ever heard. One of my most favorite songs.

Train is fantastic. Their Greatest Hits are a treasure trove of awesome spanning from 1998 to 2018. There were only a couple that I felt were missing: "Parachute" and "She's On Fire" (the latter being the lead track on the Drops Of Jupiter album).

I'm a music photographer and hear loads of music. Weirdly, Train as a band slip by most people's attention, however you can play song after song of their stuff and people go "oh yeah, love that song, never heard of Train though but I know that song".

I got to see them perform at the 2001 DC Chili Cookoff along with the Go-Gos and Jimmies Chicken Shack. 👍 My hometown. I miss it sometimes, just not the traffic.

@JayveeTV He wrote this for his mother after she passed, it would be awesome for you to pull up the lyrics and re-listen to the words when you view it from the point of a son speaking to his mother’s spirit. It’s powerful!
