- The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers a truckload of new mechanical and technological updates, including the addition of an available Multi-Flex Tailgate, impressive trailering capacity and enhanced tech.
The Multi-Flex Tailgate offers Silverado customers six unique functions, allowing for easier access to bed cargo, enhanced loading solutions and a standing workstation. With a weight capacity of 375 pounds (170 kg), different configurations for the Multi-Flex Tailgate activate using a key fob or two tailgate-mounted buttons, one for the full gate and another for the second-tier loading and storage options. Combined with the Silverado Durabed - featuring impressive cargo space, LED lighting, a 120-volt outlet and 12 fixed tie-downs - Multi-Flex makes the 2021 model the most functional and capable Silverado ever. The Multi-Flex Tailgate will be available in early 2021 on all new Silverado 1500 models.

It's a practical addition. It would be good if everything was done with a remote control. The 21st century is... It'd be even better if it could be opened when you're approaching, when you're hands full of weight. Can a Silverado of the same year that came with a standard tailgate be upgraded to the multi flex?
Notice how the left cable has slack and the right cable is tight. I have this same problem on my 2001 Sierra tail gate. My truck being twenty years old I’ve replaced the cables and still have the same outcome. Seems like gm hasn’t corrected this.
I didn't pay any attention to that cable now I see what you're talking about, and they still haven't fixed this problem, I think people need to stay away from this one. Good looking out my friend 👍🏾
But can it be fully opened (with step) and closed by using the key fob only? Why does no one mention if this is possible or not?

The multi-flex tailgate cannot power back up like a standard tailgate though. Why?

I'm hearing conflicting information on this multiflex tailgate. I've spoken to a few local chevy dealers, who already have a couple 21's on the lot, but all have confirmed the it's a standard tailgate and not the multiflex. can someone explain this?
It's on 2021 Models, not 2020
@@QuietStormX well, supposedly. If you drive down to your local Chevy dealer today, and look at the 21’s, they WILL NOT have the multiflex tailgate.
It's a $445 option and wasn't available until February 2021.

So GM decided to let Chevrolet use GMC's Multpro Tailgate and name it Multiflex. But I like how they decided to bring back the Bowtie logo on the tailgate instead of using the word "Chevrolet" on it.
I know, I guess they wanted to let GMC use it first to see how the market react to it. Truck buyers love it so far.
GMC and Chevrolet are under same umbrella of GM motor.
I hoped that a shock absorber would be installed for the trunk door because it will be heavy in weight and its sudden drop is dangerous

Only problem it hits your trailer hitch. That means a nice dent on your tailgate.

Multi function tail gate on my 2022 Silverado when lower the second portion of the gate it hits the ball on my trailer hitch and scratches the tailgate. Poor engineering and design. What can be done to eliminate the problem? Do not want to take off my trailer hitch just to use my gate. It will be a pain to have to remove the trailer and hitch every time to lower the gate. Please advise.

I get what you mean. Usually people would use this for construction but you should always be prepared incase you need the multi tool tailgate. So it's good to have it even if you don't do construction

Total junk, you can even open it manually without pressing the button or whatever, there’s no proper handle. And Ford had already been doing this kind of stuff with their Super Duty trucks since 2008.
Keep it simple st#%*=. Just one more thing to fix.
