The small one is based off the LP 7" Ice Bell, and the big one off the Sabian 9" Radia Cup Chime, those are what he used before these bells. They sound basically the same!
Let me get this straight... The bell on top of the ride cymbal is a 7" LP Ice Bell & the 9" Sabian Radia Cup Chime is located beside the hihats. The reason why the Ice Bell is black is because he didn't clean it.
i use an 8" Sabian Radia Cup chime (next to hi hats) and 7.5" Zildjian Volcano Cup on my ride (like NathanDrums said)- sound almost similar..not identical but very close.. also the LP ice bell sounds close too...
LJ Johnson I actually talked to Matt about this after a show a few days ago and he said they zildjian were gonna do a limited edition run of them some time soon
Hats with the bottom on top, interesting, might have to try that. Looks like they changed the hammering on the 18" oriental, mine doesn't look like that
@yourBandSuckx Actually, he's using some of the most heavy-duty cymbals ever made. I'd say a good comparison would be Meinl Soundcaster cymbals. They hold up REALLY well
"I'm also using two Zildjian bells that I created at the warehouse to sort of mimic the Zil-Bel, but its sort of my own tweak on how a bell should sound." Maybe he's not anymore but this is what he said.
I believe that zildjian made him some custom bells, they probly asked him if he would use some prototype bells if they made them to sound like the ones he likes.
This is so weird, I made a mock up Zildjian Setup, and it was: K Custom 17 & 19 Hybrid Crash, K Custom 20 Brilliant Ride, K Custom 14 Dark hats and a Oriental 18 China....
That's if they're level and like super high. If you level them out and have them lower, then you can hit it correctly with that swipe motion and it won't break as easily.
He didn't mention that inverted cup chime/bell thing he has mounted on his ride cymbal probably because it's something that he bought on his own and isn't endorsed by.
I don't think I know of any drummer who use both kick drums when they set up two. The reason why they wouldn't use two bass drums is you can't tune the two identical to each other. So, the second bass drum is just for show
tamir kahalany , you're are false on the sabian cymbals. I have played Zil cymbals and they broke in at least 5 months time each cymbal. I have been using sabian and I have had my sabians for 4 or 5 years now and there's not a single crack on any of my cymbals. I play Technical deathmetal/deathcore and I hit hard as hell. And they have not broken yet. So your comment isn't a fact. it's a opinion.
Last comment before I get off: As super-duper awesome as Zildjian is, the Zil-Bels are low-brow and "meh" at best. It's no wonder that Matt uses other bells. I'm not throwing shade at Zildjian, and I would love to see them create some new bells for 2013 with some actual personality to replace the Zil-Bels.
His cymbals crack because he plays hard, he sets his cymbals up flat, and he digs into them when he hits them. ANY cymbal will crack if you play like that.
yourbandsuckx I strongly disagree I craked 2 sabians just yesterday hhx and a aax so I perfer zildjian ive had zildjians on my kit for years and they still haven't craked and i broke a sabian b8
His OK druming is my best day 15 years from now.
I wonder how big the increase in sells of oriental chinas has gone up since Matt hit the scene haha he definitely makes me want one anyway.
"I hit it a lot" - Matt
The small one is based off the LP 7" Ice Bell, and the big one off the Sabian 9" Radia Cup Chime, those are what he used before these bells. They sound basically the same!
Honestly?
So idk if you guys listened to the video but he created the bells with Zildjian. He used to use the Radia Cup Chimes but his back using Zildjian.
Let me get this straight... The bell on top of the ride cymbal is a 7" LP Ice Bell & the 9" Sabian Radia Cup Chime is located beside the hihats.
The reason why the Ice Bell is black is because he didn't clean it.
You couldn't be more right. The only people who claim otherwise are those who don't take the time to listen and appreciate it.
Wow, coincidence. That's what I've been using for the last few months. Thanks Ivan!
you's should make limitied edition matt greiner bells
They make the volcano cup bell, sounds just like his.
i use an 8" Sabian Radia Cup chime (next to hi hats) and 7.5" Zildjian Volcano Cup on my ride (like NathanDrums said)- sound almost similar..not identical but very close.. also the LP ice bell sounds close too...
LJ Johnson I actually talked to Matt about this after a show a few days ago and he said they zildjian were gonna do a limited edition run of them some time soon
All cymbals crack. How quickly they crack depends on how hard you hit them.
Hats with the bottom on top, interesting, might have to try that. Looks like they changed the hammering on the 18" oriental, mine doesn't look like that
my buddy caught one at their last concert we went to. i'll tell you next time I see him :p
Metal is one of the most diverse and complicated genres in contemporary music, actually.
@yourBandSuckx Actually, he's using some of the most heavy-duty cymbals ever made. I'd say a good comparison would be Meinl Soundcaster cymbals. They hold up REALLY well
@Osskarii Since nobody truly knows what size the LP Ice Bell is, just focus on the product number: "LP402".
I asked him about his cymbal set up when i saw them play a few weeks ago.
Finally someone else who knows its the ice bell. people always try to say its some other bell.
Oh, that's great thanks Jake!
Liked/Favourited instantly.
Well cool kit. Just wish they'd film him actually hitting the cymbals too.
@Osskarii
those bells were custom made by matt.
"I'm also using two Zildjian bells that I created at the warehouse to sort of mimic the Zil-Bel, but its sort of my own tweak on how a bell should sound."
Maybe he's not anymore but this is what he said.
I’ve always wondered what bells he uses..i NEED them. Sounds so much better than the zil bell
he and zildjian sell them pre order style every once in a while. im eagerly waiting for that next ore order cuase i need it too
A P mattgreinerlessons.com/shop/zildjian-blast-bell/
Well now you can get one of them lol
I believe that zildjian made him some custom bells, they probly asked him if he would use some prototype bells if they made them to sound like the ones he likes.

that china is awesome
no ice bells have a very rough finish on the bottom, it doesnt look like that that because it hasnt been cleaned. it is much more brilliant on top.
Favorited when I saw his name.
All of you saying he uses sabian and lp bells, you are incorrect actually. On the zildjian website it clearly says he uses his custom made bells
he did use lp and sabian bells he now uses custom zil bells
He didn't mention that inverted cup chime/bell thing he has mounted on his ride cymbal probably because it's something that he bought on his own and isn't endorsed by.
paisteuser06 he actually addressed both of his bells
Josh Columbus you're right, don't know how i missed that
I'm sure you can find one series from Zildjian you like.
@hellohiholaify no look at the bell it doesnt have a sabian logo, its not shiney. Its just straight black.
how do you know he didn't do that bell?gavin harrison is using his personally made kind of crotales and bells out of old zildjian cymbals
I'm pretty sure the bells he uses, that because he's endorsed he wasn't allowed to say what he actually had..
Like the set up, but why does he have a double bass kit and use a double pedal? And doesn't even use the other bass drum?
I don't think I know of any drummer who use both kick drums when they set up two. The reason why they wouldn't use two bass drums is you can't tune the two identical to each other. So, the second bass drum is just for show
brennen lesh 4 years ago, but I see that with a lot of drummers, I think it’s just for look.
I SAW THEM IN MANSFIELD !
@MrReedro1 so like 46 celcius? is that right?! it sounds insane...
maybe referring to the first day of the tour?
He's acutally very humble. :P
he uses one, a radia cup chime
who gives a fuck what genre you prefer? just appreciate Matt for his drumming.
Wonder what drumsticks he normally uses.
did anyone else catch that he had the bottom hat on top? does he use the top as the bottom then? i think carter beauford does the same thing
@Osskarii its funny how he says they're custom zil bels just cause he has a Zildjian endorsement... :P
+ Sabian 9" Radia Cup Chime and LP 7" (or 6") Icebell...
He said Zildjian bells Zildjian bells!!
tamir kahalany , you're are false on the sabian cymbals. I have played Zil cymbals and they broke in at least 5 months time each cymbal. Did he say it was his first time on warped? I thought they played warped tour before
matt!
Uhmm, he didn't make them. Hes not allowed to talk about the Sabian chime, or the LP ice bell he uses because hes sponsored by Zildjian...
I want to hear the bells.
TRUE
Probably he liked the sound of it that way. I guess its the same way as inverting a splash to get a different sound out of it!
Hybrids ftw
That I knew, but I'm talking about the size.
You speak perfect Manbird! O_o
why does he have the hi-hat bottom on top ?
aha your comment, having a great point, made me laugh a little
haha! so true. I think dinner bell when I hear the damn thing! I want to sell mine.
@moonodude17 Well I didn't know about the product number sooooo... Yea.
I think the "Ding" Is GREAT for pop-punk or rock, but the "Dhong" Is the only thing that will fit metal core. :D
Or maybe he just said that because he doesn't want to lose the endorsement with Zildjian :D No offence to Mr. Greiner! He is one of the best imo! :)
please make those bells and sell em. a lotttttt of people would buy them
Its not a sabian radia cup its a stagg black metal
I always thought he used sabian bells...?
What do you mean?
Yeah, you have no idea how stupid I feel at this moment.
as if we didn't know the 18" china was your favorite..... hahaha
Nice eye mate

@spacitydrummer4JC Calling him a wimp is unnecessary, but he should spend the summer in Blythe, CA if he wants to get used to playing in the heat.
he said he was hitting as hard as he can.....
Aquiles Preister plays his crashes flat and over his head but they don't break because their PAITES
Did you just put an apostrophe in want? lol
His cymbals crack because he plays hard, he sets his cymbals up flat, and he digs into them when he hits them. ANY cymbal will crack if you play like that.
1:10 He uses the bottom hat on top.
if you hit a cymbal wrong it will break. playing a cymbal at eye level flat will make breaking them easier.
and the zildjian executive cringed at the last minute when he said he cracks cymbals...
haha yes
yourbandsuckx I strongly disagree I craked 2 sabians just yesterday hhx and a aax so I perfer zildjian ive had zildjians on my kit for years and they still haven't craked and i broke a sabian b8
Hahaha I play some A Customs and the 18" crash which i wash ride alot cracked like 8 times. I need sabians. And a better technique haha
I'll correct him, less cymbals would crack if he used Sabian!
idk i break a lot of Sabian stuff.... all cymbals will break.
All cymbals crack.
then you have to know it;)
or Meinl. Meinls are freaking beefy and can withstand a blow.
Or Meinl.
Vic Firth
kwool
Or maybe it's true!
Sabian break much more easily than zildjian's.
well the 9" is kinda dongy
No, it is not.
vic firth 3A's
@spacitydrummer4JC come down to Phoenix in August 110 degrees and 90 percent humidity then you can talk crap. just sayin.
No. Since Armand died they are doomed. Their last invention is names for cymbals. Vinnie C designed A customs. And...?? So long...
Haha, too bad that isn't true at all.
"play drums okay" your standards are much too high Matt
Also wouldn't sound as good. Al about preference broha ;)
