SYSTEMS THINKING: The Pinnacle of Personal Development

- We see the world as a complex succession of events rather than as a system as a whole.
Event-oriented thinking assumes that each event we experience has a cause and that changing the cause will correspondingly change the event. However, that’s somehow the antithesis of how the world functions.
Famous systems thinker Donella Meadows writes in her book, “Thinking in Systems: A Primer”:
“Let's face it, the universe is messy. It is nonlinear, turbulent, and chaotic. It is dynamic. It spends its time in transient behavior on its way to somewhere else, not in mathematically neat equilibria. It self-organizes and evolves. It creates diversity, not uniformity. That's what makes the world interesting, that's what makes it beautiful, and that's what makes it work.”
Understanding the endogenous nature of systems and how they can shape the fabric of our reality constitutes a turning point in one’s personal development journey.

To understand is to perceive patterns.
Where is genetic fits in this thinking ? just curious, and also the free will.
This is a great video. I'm glad more and more peopel are finally turning onto Donella Meadows' work and just system thinking in general.
I recall reading her book about 8 years ago and after finishing it, thinking I had picked up super powers in thinking. No lie! I single-handedly attritribue the knowledge I learned from her book, and the classic, "The Fifth Discipline" by Peter M. Senge, as the reason I was able to move up very quickly in the company I worked for and gained the respect of my peers.
I was literally searching up intros to systems thinking. Thank you for reading my mind
haha you are welcome
I apply this approach as a Career Coach to problems job seekers have and it's very valuable teaching tool
It's taught also in companies as part of organizational design
I’ve been adopting this generalist way of thinking myself lately. I tend to steer clear of making bold assumptions about anything these days. I don’t put expectations on anything, any outcome- that I believe, leads to disappointment/ failure. I look at everything as a learning experience. I’ve missed the mark so much in my 40 years, that I’m trying a different, more realistic approach on life. Yet with a more positive attitude.
Thank you for sharing this. It really helps with perspective. ❤️☮️🙏
Btw- I believe in God- God has shown me my most turbulent times were merely lessons of love 💕 A very difficult lesson to learn.
I look for beauty in the breakdown 💓
You never miss the mark :)
@@metamorphosis_77 touché 💓☺️
Belief in God is hardly a realistic approach to life. It is literally making things up in order to feel better.
Really well made video about an interesting topic
"To understand is to percive patterns" is a really powerful qoute that clarifies my vision.
The problem is that most of the population do not understand this and they dont have analytical thinking and have many faults but that makes us special and makes improvement worth it.

Never I feel like I lost I come to this channel ❤
Evolutionary biology is such a useful lens through which to analyze the world, because it is grounded in the recognition that everything in our life is an interaction between complex systems- Bret Weinstein (paraphrasing)
Agreed! Appreciate what and how you do what you do. Not only for your choice in subject to shed light on, but the care and precision in which you decide on the supporting evidence and example to put forth in your analysis. It makes for a useful, captivating, and eye opening video essay..
Thank you, my friend

System thinking is still not mainstream, the mainstream thinking is absolutistic and relativistic. Soon, with the arrival of newer generations we will notice the impact of system thinking.
let's see
Fantastic work..As a lifelong student of Philosophy i can really relate

Great video!
Very well made video ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

it can also be linear thinking, like knowing the main causes of violence in the form of a list, like:
- economic incentive
- unhealthy primary relations
- poverty
- frustration.
what you're calling the pinnacle of "personal development" is just scientific knowledge, explanatory knowledge, about for example psychology or behavior. the "pinnacle of personal development" is just scientific truth, which also seems to be the pinnacle of human evolution according to British physicist David Deutsch and his ted talk titled "After billions of years of monotony, the universe is waking up | David Deutsch".
I love David Deutsch
Great topic it has peak my interest.i want to learn more

Thank you :)
You're the best.

This put me in a relaxing trance. Thank you 💜 But I don’t understand why the law of cause and effect (or cause and event) is antithetical to system theory. Cause and effect is not necessarily thought of as an isolated random occurrence…
yes, because it focuses mainly on causation and we forget about correlation.
@@metamorphosis_77 ahhh got it. Have you read Deleuze and Guattari? Would be interested to know your thoughts on becoming and/or assemblages. Thanks for your work!
Always come with more practical things to use hey do you have anything for when you are stuck at the starting point of something I seem that I'm never able to start and apply things.

Nice work. Is Generalist similar to the term ‘free thinking’?
more like holistic thinking
@@metamorphosis_77 thanks. I’ll look that one up too
Nice video and presentation. Can you do something on Emil Cioran's Nihilism.
I need a starting point to go on this journey, any references u might help me with.thank u
Excellent video!
Have you considered interviewing Nora Bateson, daughter of Gregory Bateson?
I think it would go very nicely with this, and we could all use more awareness around this way of thinking!
She brings up many new terms and ideas from her father and some of her own insights as well with things like warm data.... check her out.... she's done a bunch of work with "The Stoa" that you can find on here....
Cheers!
Will check her out. Maybe I will do interviews next year.
This reminds me of zen.
Do you make these animations?
What I have come to realise is that every system has a critical part or parts and that to change that system they have to be attacked. E.G. A human is a system that is self regulating and it is driven by the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain, as indeed all life is. Take away a critical part such as an internal organ and the life system collapses to be replaced with another system of a decaying body. The family is a system and we have wilfully excluded fathers from them. This has caused societal collapse over 2 generations. This will only get worse until the balance of family stability is put back in place by putting fathers back in families.
Without short feedback loops and with a complex web of poorly understood causes and effects, doesn't everything you do effectively amount to speculation?
That elephant is probably very confused...
Confused is an understatement

Stop the Criminalisation of Intelligence. 🔥🔥
Not a sufi story. Its a Buddhist / Hindu/Indian story. Cause elephants are found in India. Actually my Indian friend said me the same story while describing perspective!!
It's true it first appeared in a Buddhist text
Wow this feels like an elephant's trunk holding an apple.
you sound like Pep Guardiola
cool guy pep
Sufism 🤍
Seems like a topic that will benefit school children. Oh wait, It does for the Biden/Harris' around the world.
