    I lived in Japan as a child and we took our shoes off everywhere we went while there. I still remember being horrified when I returned to the US and saw people entering homes with shoes on! It really is gross when you think about it! Thanks for the great videos! I really enjoy them. Tokyo has changed in 40 years but so much still seems the same!!

    I think the biggest reason you fitted to Japan is that the way how your family behaves courteously and also shows bubbly, out front character in public. Those things make your family blissful in Japan!! ^^

    Living in the US, there are a few things I miss about Japan, in addition to the ones you've listed.
    One of them is how clean and safe pretty much everywhere in Japan is. I also miss the variety of fresh fish and tofu that you can buy at the local supermarkets. Although we can buy them here in the US as well, they don't taste the same.

    Hey guys!! Congrats on the plaque! You all earned it. I'm from the Philippines originally but grew up in the USA. I've always taken my shoes up growing up and I've made it common practice in my house, because it keeps the house cleaner. I even make sure to clean the paws of my dogs before they come in too, because they bring in debris too. My only exception is if someone has to wear special shoes for their feet and we don't have house shoes they can wear inside. Afterwards we vacuum and steam clean.

    Our Sakura season has just come to an end but if you ever make your way out here to Okinawa during our Sakura season (mid-Jan to peak early Feb) then definitely head to Nakijin Castle or, our favorite, Motobu Yaedake. The blossoms here are a much brighter pink than in mainland as they are Kanhizakura trees where as on mainland it's mostly Yoshino cherry trees.
    One thing I'd add to the list that I love about living in Japan...how safe it is for kids. We didn't live in the best area in the US before we moved overseas and I often felt unsafe there. But here, my kids are allowed to go to the park with their friends and ride bikes in the neighborhood and even ride over to FamilyMart solo! I also loved how older Japanese women would just randomly take my babies when we were out at restaurant so I could eat in peace and they could enjoy baby snuggles. I know, that probably sounds crazy to some people, but it was so nice raising babies in a place like this.

    Congratulations on the plaque! I’ve never been to Japan but after watching your videos I would love to visit. I’m an American living in Scotland, and there are special things here that I will miss when we leave, like getting meat from a butcher just a few blocks away, and so many cafés. Here most people take their shoes off when they enter the house, too. My brother lives in Germany and they do it there, too.

    • @joannemiller8697
      @joannemiller8697 2 года назад +2

      How do you like living in Scotland? We're moving there next year from Japan and can't decide what area is best. I'd appreciate any advice you can give. My husband is American and I'm from the UK but have only lived in England and I gather that its a bit different.

    • @gerriebell2128
      @gerriebell2128 2 года назад +3

      @@joannemiller8697 I like Scotland very much except for the weather. I grew up in Pennsylvania but at 17 went to university in California to get out of winter, and stayed there until we moved here (my husband’s company transferred him here). Where in Scotland to live depends on weather, job opportunities, and transportation. We live in Glasgow in the west end of it, in an area called Partick. Public transportation here is very good. There are lots of “suburb” kinds of areas around and close to Glasgow too. I don’t recommend the north, because it’s very cold and remote and gets lots of snow, although it is beautiful. Glasgow and Edinburg (eastern Scotland) have very changeable weather. We do have real winter (0-5degrees C)and summer is 16-23 usually. I don’t know a lot about the areas south of us except for driving through. 15 minutes drive out of Glasgow and you are in farm areas. I hope that helps at least a little. Scottish people are mostly very kind, I have found. Hard to understand often (Edinburgh accent is easier), but very friendly and helpful.

    Approximately 1000 Kawazu cherry blossoms are in full bloom along the 1km track from Miurakaigan Station to Komatsugaike Park. Since rape blossoms are planted alongside the Kawazu cherry blossoms, you can enjoy the bright pink of the cherry blossom trees and the yellow of the rape blossoms together. There is also a parking lot. It seems that the chance is before the middle of March. 😊

    12番目は水道水が飲めて、美味しいこと。
    当たり前すぎて普段は意識しづらいけど、素晴らしいことです、本当にありがたいです‼️
    (神奈川県の大半は相模川の水道水で、相模川は山中湖が水源であり、忍野などの富士山系の水を利用していることになるので、特にありがたく思っています😊)

    Asukayama Park in Kita-ku, Tokyo is recommended.
    It is a famous place for cherry blossoms, but it is recommended all year round because there are many plants.
    There is also a large park with steam locomotives and old trains, so it is highly recommended for children.
    It is near the train station, but there is also a parking lot.

    I definitely miss being in Japan. You hit the ones I would have picked, especially the コンビニ. I would add obento boxes, such as the 駅弁. Those were great for longer trips on the shinkansen, or just if you need a quick lunch on the go. I miss the food in general. When my husband and I took our first trip to Japan in 2012, I hadn't been able to eat beef in well over 10 years as something they do to the meat or the cows here in the US makes the meat difficult for me to eat and digest and I always ended up sick. We went to a yakiniku place near Ueno that had some of the best beef I'd ever eaten, and wouldn't you know it, I didn't get sick from it! I made sure to enjoy some good beef while I was there on that trip as well as in 2015 when I studied abroad in Kyoto. Since then, I buy strictly organic and higher quality beef just so that I can actually eat it.
