only do this when youre starting. You dont have the equipment but you do have the passion and the skill. why let stuff like expensive gear stop you from producing great quality video? shoot with cheap, make money, save up, buy expensive equipment, charge more, save money, buy even more expensive equipment... oh and when your expensive equipment fails on you now you know how to build a backup lol
This is encouraging. Your words touched me : “don’t make excuses...” I actually bought a cannon this yr, and could afford this light BUT I haven’t gotten into making films or vlogs etc bc of FEAR - but even then others who are in the hustle and don’t have the resources go at it without excuses. Very inspirational for me. Cheers.
Yo the bottom line is... this thing works. For any person either too cheap to spend dough or honestly cannot afford real lighting equipment, this is a sure option. As ugly as it is. If it works... it works. Good you had fun along the way.
WOW. I mean, props for putting this video out. People need to see stuff like this so that they don't feel bad about their own hacks, because to me, this video is way more fun to watch than almost any of the other DIY lights on RUclips. I'm still doing something similar to this because I have my money tied in in things like buying food. It's the final result that counts!
Bravo on the attempt! You really CAN make it happen. Want even cheaper and easier? Clamp the light to a stand and hang the whole shower curtain in front of it. Nice, big, soft source (though it does take 2 stands).
That is so cool that you had so much fun and getting back to your beginnings man! I think the best thing is that you tapped back into how you started. I mean look at you bro, 500k + followers and you are still reconnecting with your beginnings. Dude! An umbrella!!!! That is such a genius idea! I never thought about that!!
@YCImaging Bro you could have used: -An umbrella -Gorilla or Duc tape -That can light or 3 cheap flash lights -A flood LED light. -Aluminum foil -a broom stick or cheap mop stick -something that can act as a tough base to hold the broom up straight that's cheap. -White hazy shower curtains -batteries from the dollar store (if you get the flashlights) And think that's everything.
I definitely love the creative builds you do within your channel. Looking back at your earlier videos I think these types of videos are really appreciated in the filming community. Keeps these coming! I got some coming myself hope to share them with you.
Ha that's cool for sure....I don't even diffuse DIY lights (of which I have many) I just enclose them and point bounce them off anything white like the wall or a board. That's a big pro tip right there :)
I made a smaller version with (initially) a worklight which I later replaced with a regular LED bulb suspended from an overhead bar. The dome had as it’s frame a styrofoam (pressure cooker) box lining around which I wrapped some reflective strip-cut dashboard protector. Used hot glue and bad sewing to wrap it in black cloth and used thin curtain lining as diffuser. Works a charm, but doesn’t have the rugged gaffers tape charm of yours, bro!😜 Absolutely loved this.
you really entertained me with this video😂🤣😂😂i took this same route years ago with a pvc shoulder rig. cost walmart about ..... more than a real entry level one nowadays. but still a good lesson to work with what you have. .. an be resourcefull without "money"💪🏻
My kid wants to make videos so I am building her some lights, I wish I could afford to buy some, but who knows maybe she’ll make it big and be able to buy her own! This was a big help, and you are awesome, thanks!
I used to use these lights with Wax paper and a large hair brand. Worked like a charm back in the day. If someone wants to see what i'm talking about just let me know and I'll scrummage them up and take a pic.
I just made this using aluminum roasting pan & posted it on my channel without color correction at all. only used this single light and it came out amazing! used GH5 w $130 1.7 25mm lens. I wont be lugging my aputure 120 around anymore!
Bro! Super inspiring! I made the same thing I just used a beer box with cardboard cut a hole and put a shower curtain in front of it. I got real lights now but it was kinda fun just working with whatever you could find.
I got wind of you by taping into Daniel Schiffer's video. He gives credit to you for his DIY inspiration. That's pretty cool. But, the biggest deal, for me, is finding your channel. I can't believe I didn't find you earlier and the fact you're leading the pack for tech influencers of color. There, I said it. My intention is not to dismiss others but, rather give a huge thumbs up to you for representing. We need this. I need this. As for your lighting hack, that goes without saying. It's HILLARIOUS brilliant. Now I'll go binge-watch all of your other channel videos. I appreciate you, YC!
YC, you may think this was dumb but this is more of what a lot of us wanna see from you!!! I did this when I first started and then I bought a dome but kept using that cheap light from Walmart with a $50 dome. Still was less than $100 Great video bro!! I laughed hard on my lunch break
@@YCImaging You got it man~ Too many other Youtubbers come off as being kinda...pretentious but you keep it cool - ps the lighting setup in your vids is tight
i took a bowens mount to flashgun adapter. torqued it down on a lightsocket instead of a flashgun. put a 20 dollar corn bulb in the socket and attached it to a cheap brolly box. if i had a softbox small enough i could stick it on there.
What about the YONGNUO YN216? It's only about $50 and I guess it could be somewhat be a 120D alternative for cheap lighting? IDK what do you guys think??
Something to upgrade this hack... Go to Dollar Tree or similar store and get black posterboard... usually 2/$1. Measure the diameter of the worklight, and cut the posterboard accordingly to fit .You can glue the aluminum foil to the posterboard. Tape the diffusion to it from the inside. Use black duct or gaffers tape. This will make the contraption look more professional.
i went to your website and was looking at your transition packs. i saw one transitions pack that was definitely used in "Q Money ft. KeyGlock" music video (top 5 fav music videos) i was trying to replicate one of the transitions for a title for the longest time, couldn't get it exactly right and gave up lol. then i found it on your website! im definitely buying from you very soon!!!
That's some creative stuff there. Cooooool one bro... Another quick way to get nice and soft light is to just point that led thing towards the wall/ceiling which then acts as a diffuser. Works Fantastic compared to the harsh light you get with no diffusion. Also we do have umbrella lightning setup for $40 budget on Amazon...
The looks i get from my wife when i have these random ideas is the same look she gave the phone when she saw all that tape lol. Awesome vid as always bro. Thanks for sharing. The end result from a lighting standpoint is pretty damn good.
Liked just for the effort. Back in the day, my light touched the diffuser and caught on fire. So if you are using non-led lights never leave them unsupervised.
I wonder if that light bounced off foam core would work better for less money. Or spend a hair more and use an adorama glow 20" with the light. Fun idea for a rainy day
CTHU off of the name bro -- Faputure... too funny - But i love how you come up with creative ways for people who don't have the bread to shell out for the top of the line equipment to come a little close to getting that look. Appreciate you champ
Oh man, I died laughing... it's so dope! Can't wait to see the FAPuture 120D MK II or you can boost the output and go straight to the CRAputure 500D MK VI. Love your videos and glad you had fun making this and we all had fun watching it. Keep on being so cool man.
Definitely A for effort glad I'm making more money to get that 120d I was thinking more that light I seen on amazon for 100 would do more of better job tho the Neewer Dimmable Bi-color 660 LED Video Light
FAPuture 120D Mark II?!
Lol 😂🤣 I hope to get good at videos like you. I love learned a lot so far thanks so much for the videos. Very informative.
lol
uhhhjhjhhh
We need it😂😂

There's beauty in being broke.
It’s cuz of the jazz music
"The Power of Broke" - Daymond John
the beauty of being broke as hell
There’s beauty in being broke with a dream, otherwise it’s not beautiful. It sucks lol
It so is 💖💕💗💞🌸💓💜
He was so confident in his work that he didn't do a side by side comparison.
There is a Daniel Sheiffer video where he makes one with a cake pan and also compares it to the Aputure, check it out!
"damn, Broke already" me after having just receiving my paycheck
Underrated comment

That is hilarious. Can you imagine showing up to a shoot with that monstrosity. Your subject and or client would be hilariously horrified.
Until they see the finished project and say "THAT BOI GOOD", LOLOL.
Lmao man I was just thinking about that. Lol it looks fun tho.

I'm here from the Daniel Schiffer remake. A broke video maker. 800 dollars is more than a month's salary for me.
Nice work, thanks for sharing.
This is by far my favorite video you've ever posted. It seemed so raw and fun and funny.

Even as goofy as it is, thank you for looking out for the music video people that don’t have the money. Much appreciated
The point here is, if you dont have the money, get creative! If it works, it works
Fugazzi Dome Mini! HAHAHA.
Loved this video dude. Love this kind of DIY thinking.
I was cracking up at the slowmo b-roll of the light you made 😂 I've done some crazy DIY stuff myself but this was wild lol
This was a good video. Folks forget you can DIY your own filmmaking tools. Your final look was really good.
Dude, love your vibe. You seem REAL! Subscribed less than halfway through this vid.

There’s no greater mind than a creative’s mind 😂👊🏾
GHETTTTTOOOO Rig all day! Love it! Straight up MacGyver
Baking paper is where it's at for cheap diffusion, it's heat resistant, and about $1 for 20 meters :D
I use Japanese sliding door paper which works great for my diffusion dome.
Too funny...but I give you mad props for your humility. Just imagine showing up to your first shoot with that LOL.
Awesome. Nothing better than a self made light. It’s all about creating things. Appreciate your content.

i just hear ur voice and i just fell in love 😍
You can get a Mylar blanket(survival blanket) in the camping section of Walmart, very reflective and much more flexible than tinfoil
Yoooooo, this is an amazing idea!
I would love to see a whole studio set up DIY and operate in it daily for all the videos they create, I might give it a try, haha!
You can buy a super cheap dimmer from a hardware store and probably Walmart for like $15. I use one for the old Lowell lights.
I got 2 yongnuo yn360's and am getting the Al-MX soon. They've been doing a good job, but I can't wait for the MX
Liked just for the effort. Back in the day, my light touched the diffuser and caught on fire. So if you are using non-led lights never leave them unsupervised.
Noted! I appreciate it
Omg i had to give you the like. Great seeing you back to the basics
You are always finding us ways to save money! This I why I LOVE your channel.
I suggest you use an old light shade frame for holding that light in the can.
The straight face u kept through it all killed me!!
I love the slow motion beauty shots of the faputure 120d. You also could've just hung the whole shower curtain and shot light through it, right?
Nice job on your makeshift lighting
I wonder if that light bounced off foam core would work better for less money. Or spend a hair more and use an adorama glow 20" with the light. Fun idea for a rainy day
