The Yoruba people, now over 50 million, are found across West African countries including Nigeria (which has the highest population of Yoruba; over 41 million), Republic of Benin (1 million plus) , Togo, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The orisha religion that is now widely practiced in Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago etc was brought there by the Yoruba enslaved during transatlantic slavery. The religion is now practiced in almost every continent of the world and by people of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.
In South Carolina in the United States, there's a village named OYOTUNJI. It was founded by African Americans and named after the Yoruba empire of Oyo.
It's not surprising why Yoruba culture keeps spreading. It's because it's based on COMPLEXITY, the true nature of the physical, social and natural environment that humans interact with. Whereas Arabian desert religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism) and classic/pre-postmodernist Western culture are based on binary divisions (good vs. bad, we vs. them), the Yoruba culture is based on a complexity that gives room for a third option.
It is this complexity that makes Yoruba religious system a monotheistic polytheistic one as the West crudely describe it when they became tolerant enough to accept the truth about it. It is also this complexity that has continued to guide the entire life of the Yoruba nation whether we are aware of this or not. While still keeping to their traditional religious values, the Yoruba in Nigeria are Muslims and Christians almost in the same proportion. In the history of British colonialism in Nigeria, indirect rule was completely successful in Northern Nigeria and failed woefully in Eastern Nigeria. In Western Nigeria among the Yoruba, it was partially successful. That's the Yoruba complexity giving way for a third option.
While some people might be misinterpreting this complexity, we Yoruba must keep to it because that is what keeps advancing our place in the world, and that is how humanity has to be. The modern Yoruba person, especially in Nigeria (considering how foreign religions keep misrepresenting Yoruba/African culture in this country) also has to take time to understand this complexity. For example, many Muslim/Christian Yoruba in Nigeria today will take Esu for Satan whereas this orisha is a philosopher king and complex figure like the Greek Hermes (the etymology of hermeneutics) and the Japanese Inari Okami. I doubt if many of us know today that Esu is the one supplying information to Ifa and also helping out other orisha. What is more, if Hermes and Inari Okami who are equivalent of Esu are not misrepresented, why should we allow this to be done to Esu?

The music is purely Yoruba or yoruboid in nature. There is no trace of igbo in it. The igbo is not known for talking drums. The igbo is not known for ijala, which is purely part of Yoruba cultural music. The wording in the music is Yoruba or yoruboid. Even the dance and the settings are of Yoruba concept. So if you don't know much about something, don't just drive into conclusions of what you don't know. This is perfectly a yoruba cultural music.

It sounds just like normal Yoruba. I don't even think there's such a thing as just normal Yoruba tbh. Each state has it's own dialect and there in its own accent. U go to Ekiti to Lagos state there is a huge difference.
