A History of The Olukumi People - An Ancient Yoruba group in Delta and Edo states.
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
The Olukumi people are a group presently occupying a string of communities in Delta and Edo states of Nigeria. They are a fragment of Yoruba descended people that migrated eastwards from the main body of contiguous Yorubaland a long time ago and are presently established close to the middle reaches of the western or right bank of the Niger river in southern Nigeria. In Delta state, they can be ...

    Igbos no want them to recognize where they belong. Let me tell you today if their will be a referendum for Igbos to go many of this people will not ever agree to go with Biafra. They're originally Yoruba's by spirit and culture. Igbos sisterm is to dominate everywhere they are and oppress the people they meet in that place make them to believe in there own That's politics agenda of Nnamdi Azikiwe to dominate Nigeria

    Yoruba nation please what is a town in Ondo called Ugbo Onitsha doing there. I thaught Onitsha is an Igbo word peculiar only to Onitsha town in Anambra State.?

    • @ayenia2736
      @ayenia2736 4 месяца назад

      Ugbo means 'bush , farmstead'. It is not igbo. That is our word for bush farm in ekiti and ondo state. 'Onisa' wrongly called 'Onitsha' is a word describig which particular farmsted ' someone who owns 'isa'--where people run to for hiding'. Those were days of war, and that place was a very tick forest where you could camouflag and protect yourself from invaders. No matter how people corrupt the word, it has nothing to do with igbos or Onitsha

    • @WiseMansGift
      @WiseMansGift 4 дня назад

      Ugbo means farm, farm work(isé agbe in Yoruba) or farmland in Igbo. There is Onicha mmili(Onitsha) in Anambra, then in Delta there's Onicha-Ugbo, Onicha-Ukwu, Onicha-Olona. There's also Onicha LGA in Ebonyi state, there's Onicha in Mbaise Imo state, there's also Onicha-Nkwerre in Imo state etc. There's Onicha roundabout Igbo land FYI. Get informed!

    Olukumi is IIlaje or Usen or Igbomina language.

  • @francisanammah1127
    @francisanammah1127 Год назад

    Usen people are of Ife origin when the IIajes were ocupying there. All of Bini spirituality is from Ife. When the ancestors of Bini arrived Udo in the 7th_ 8th Century , they were all men from Western Sudan who went hunting and got lost. They trekked fron Sudan to Chad , to around lokoja . They came around Auchi_ Warake _ Ora axis where water was scarce. Their search led them to a spring in Ora and named the place Oraame( in Arabic meaning draw water) , to remember where they found water. They followed the course of that water flow to the ocean which is today called Ovia River. They settled at a place along the course of the River which named also in Arabic Udo, meaning fortress. This is where Benin language and culture started. Through hunting they encountered Iilaje people who were in Ife ( Ufe) ar the time. Their wives came from Ufe or Ife. They came with their gods( Olokun, Ifa, Olumilua, Aiyelala etc). Bini use to have two kingdoms , one at Udo and one in Benin city. The one in Udo was destroyed in 16th Century by Oba Esegie . The Agbogidi of Udo , Eseehima or Ezechima moved with his family , slaves , loyalists and two of his native doctors first to Owa and then to Obio where he died. His eldest children crossed the Niger to form Onitsha. There is an Obonkpa village in Onitsha till date. They are Olukumi. Does this connect to your story?. There was nothing like Yoruba untill ealrly 18th Century in SouthWest Nigeria. You were either LUKUMI, EGBA, OYO, AWORI, IJEBU( FROM SUDAN), IILAJE( ABORIGINES), ADO, AKOKO, IGBOMINA, IJESHA.

  • @francisanammah1127
    @francisanammah1127 Год назад

    If the Olukumi people in Delta are from Usen in Edo State near Udo( a town near Benin who are known as good native doctors), it means they came in from that axis along with Ezechima( Eseehima)( good gift or blessings in Benin) who was the last king of Udo before its destruction in early 16th Century by Oba Esegie( Osiajie). His native doctor from Usen must have escorted him and his family first to Owa and then to Obio where he died. We Onitsha people have always known that Obomkpa people were native doctors to Obi Ezechima who was the first Agbogidi of Onitsha people. They are custodians of Udo Shrine where the hairs and nails of Ezechima were buried . It is only in that Shrine that anyone who wants to be Obi of Onitsha goes to take authority to rule from Ezechima and his ancestors. Note that Udo is the ancestral home of Benis and indeed all Edo and Edo related people. The language, culture, civilisatiob started in Udo.

    IilAjes are the only aborigenes in Southern Nigeria. Everyone met them on ground including the Yorubas and the Edos. They joined to form the Edo or Benin nation as well as the Yorubas. I believe Olukumi people as a sub group of Illajes who were the original occupants of Ife untill the Yorubas( hunters) came from Iddah through Esie to Oyo and finally to Ife where they displaed the Illajes to Ugbo Nla.

In Onisha there is avillage called Obomkpa that are native doctors from Obomkpa in Delta. They crown Obi of Onitsha and are in charge of Udo Shrine in Onitsha where the hairs and nails of Ezechima , the founder of Ezechima clan is buried.

    The Olukumis due to wars ran out of their territories scattered to many places including benin.A chief in Igbanke fought and drove them away but the indigenous Anioma people allowed them to settle on their land.The Igbos were already living there before the Olukumis arrived. Iwent to school with Some of the Olukumis in then Bendel state. Is there any where in the old Oyo empire where you find Igbo settlement? Any where you find them in large numbers does not mean that the land or territory belongs to. Them. In closing Queen Sheba did an excellent job,The Olukumis migrated to Anioma and dwell with the people because the Aniomas allowed them

      If 'agbogidi' of onitsha, which is now called 'obi of onisha' is a clan of olukumi going by the name and the evidences, how would a group of people who arrived at a place latest than other become the kinghead of that place? it is confusing. They must had also been among the earliest settlers of that place except it is by a conquest

      Delta state is mainly made up of Itsekiri, Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Igbo. Of the 25 LGAs in Delta state, 9 are of Igbo extraction. I'm glad that today, 1 year after this comment was made, the Igbo in Delta, which includes the Enuani, Ukwuani, Ika etc. are clamouring for an Anioma State as an Igbo state to be created and added to the SouthEast. Truth is prevailing!

    The music is purely Yoruba or yoruboid in nature. There is no trace of igbo in it. The igbo is not known for talking drums. The igbo is not known for ijala, which is purely part of Yoruba cultural music. The wording in the music is Yoruba or yoruboid. Even the dance and the settings are of Yoruba concept. So if you don't know much about something, don't just drive into conclusions of what you don't know. This is perfectly a yoruba cultural music.
