This thread is a bit interesting to me for a few reasons. Let's suppose that RUclips threads aren't irredeemable for a moment. The original poster just meant to say thay there's both timelessness and futurity to the piece. How do I know? Because the song is both relevant and pristine now. It hadn't found its time then and it is true that it is still discovering its time. Culture is not always most relevant at the time of its release, and I'd say Black Tambourine are a slow release type of band. Nonetheless, you insufferable elitists deserve the hammer on this one, treating it like an unliving form. Shame on all of you, naturalizing the OP's comment to say BT can just be understood by listening to Beat Happening. Vulgar and not getting away with it, this time. If anything, BT are a gateway to poetic-prosaic indie rock, like James Dean Driving Experience, World of Pooh or something relevant. Can't imagine seeing spreading this idea that, "oh, it's just kinda crappy, like Weezer," in 2023. Lolo. OP is less of a hipster than the YT of today!
Aw man. This takes me back... Ugh! I discovered this song freshman year of highschool 2010. It took my soul away, and left me in a trance. I really do unironically cry everytime. It helped me through a lot of my teen angst.
I've always liked this song but I just found the video and it's great! Around that the time is was filmed it wasn't uncommon to see members of that collection of DC bands around town. Some worked in great record stores around town, like Vinyl Ink or Yesterday And Today. So it's nice to see such a casual, matter of fact video for the song. It captures the mood of people just making music while going about their normal lives. Fantastic!
It's so fun to find a video of a song that you didn't know had one before. I love the intimacy of the video. Reminds me of good times (well at least good musically) and seeing them and so many other great bands in DC.
I like how its so far in the distance its like youre baked and thoughts and life are passing by and yyoure sitting there like a tortise while it happens, a bit indie for my taste though. Lots of drive though. The shots of the lilach really put me into the vibe too, like I was there. Im pretty sure I was at some point.
Yes you know why I had to go cool and civil See, you're lying... again Driving me down You mention that and so you just say that you are trying Please don't cry I'd like to die just turn around and say goodbye Please don't cry I'd like to die just turn around and say goodbye Who's to blame? You think you know but then don't tell me I see you spying You can deny your jealousy but that's just a lie that I'm not buying Please don't cry I'd like to die, just turn around and say goodbye Please don't cry I'd like to die, just turn around and say goodbye

@birdiemonster - I'm a little unclear on why you would then go on to express that opinion and thus focus more on something you don't like (and you shouldn't apologize for expressing a view, though the failure to present concrete reasons is most assuredly something you should regret). Surely there's a Rebecca Black video you could be abusing instead?
I can't believe this was recorded in 1990. Sounds like tomorrow's music.
Its cause every generation idolizes previous generations art, but you knew that already.
All the lates 2000s early 2010s indie bands really do sound just like this...that being said this kinda sounds like JAMC and Beat Happening
Stop bullying 8 year old hipster comments, gang. Let them get jaded by themselves

I can. Tomorrows music was being played 10 years ago!
Seriously great band. How did they not get any more recognition?

this was always my favorite one
Like a mix of Beat Happening, 1987 My Bloody Valentine, and a tinge of Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Fantastic.
So cool to see the WMUC live room in this video!
I was live music director at WMUC when I was at UMD and its really cool that it has been a great live music spot for so many years!
This song is dope.

I don't understand why it sounds so good, except that all of it's elements are in perfect harmony.
This is what connects Ramones and My Bloody Valentine...it's Moe Tucker rhythms and Brian Wilson harmonies...the indie vibe
@NOAH WALKER that was their last one. The one two three four ep was made in 2010 and 2011
Wow, great description
Always astonishing absolutely dreampunk
This is a fantastic song, they nailed this sound..Repetitive guitar and drums with that sweet vocal over the top of it works beautifully.
One of the coolest noise pop tunes & bands I know of & I've studied the stuff intently. I never knew what BT looked like before this & I approve. ;)
Perfect guitars, vocal harmonies - everything.
this is still radical by today's standards
GORGEOUS video for a gorgeous song and band.... but oh! dan, is it possible archie has supplanted you in my heart?
lol I used to play this as a Dj in the early 90's now is the first time I see the video.
I can't believe I just found this band! Their totally my kinda deal
OHHHH damm!! this song just made a wrinkle in my heart.. ouuuuu.!

Didn't know that Anthony Fantano was in Black Tambourine.
Blackthony Tambtano
blackthony tamborino
Directed and written by Blacktony Tamfantano
Great
best ever
Great.
1990! This doesn't sound dated at all.
Is this the same "Army of Kids" that collaborated with the late Veronica Falls, for their "Come On Over" video?
I like. There's no 'auto-tune' here. Cool.
Beginning sounds like Beat Happening - Me Untamed
It starts off sounding like beat happening and then it drifts off into the void
Yes, you know why I had to go cool and civil
See, you're lying... again
Driving me down
You mention that and so you just say that you are trying
Please don't cry, I'd like to die

Hard
Wayn by pllush has a similar intro to this one , definitely took influence from this.
Hearing this song during this playlist - ruclips.net/p/PLb_d81sRP63_7CKh2Kewx0t0DnMHgYtZs, really makes me appreciate them even more
Transcendental fucked-up beauty.Perfect!
When y're gazing at your shoes, don't you suppose eyewear retention would be an important consideration?

mmmmmm.....delicious.......
Couldn't get past how out of time it all was. Shudders!
+James Guyatt I thought the weird time signature was made it interesting to listen to.
+James Guyatt I think it's because you have bad taste
Hmm, didn't think the rhythm was bad... Could it just be the time signature throwing you off?
How was it out of time?
He means that the video was out of time with the audio.
I think that it wasn't footage that matched up to the song done deliberately.
I really want to like this song, but it's just not hitting the spot :(
It hits some spots tho
I am sorry, but for me this really sucks
