Our 1959 VW Beetle side project - time for paint!

Wonder why we haven't posted in a while? Partially because of this little beast! It's a 1959 Volkswagen Beetle that we have been restoring over the last 3 years. But don't be dissuaded...we are about to make another trip through the western US to Mexico, so look forward to more van life videos!

I prefer a 2 qt. Pressure pot so you don't have to swing a qt. of paint around. Beatiful job here! I finished my '64 sunroof last year.

Looks great! I'm working on a 1959 Fiat 600, so somewhat related. I love these small cars.

Much easier than hefting around the big American steel ones... haha. 2 of us can pick this up and move it around. Fiat is probably much the same.

One side at a time. Painted one side, let it cure, flipped it and painted the other side.

This is confusing. THe first coat was primer or was it base coat ? It says base, then you say first coat of color after that ? I thought you sprayed the Y2K primer, guide coat, sand it, and then base/clear. Why base clear when a solid color ? I thought base clear was for graphics & metallics. I have a garnet red 59 and a horizon blue 56 and both need to be painted.

It had been primed prior to the base coat, but you'd have to talk to Lucky13 for the specific details. They were the ones who did all that thinking...haha.

It's a custom mix... We found a powder blue and added more white... lol
