    It may be helpful for those of us who are interested, but aren't camera geeks, if you added a throwaway line describing what an APS-C camera is. Took me a little searching to figure it out.

    Preach! I’ve been making the case for c mount lenses since the 90s (back when they were dirt cheap). No matter what the specs are of a new camera, I’m always mostly interested in whether it can shoot C mounts or not. Keep it going!

    I've been collecting some of these lenses as well. I love how small and easily handled they make my m4/3 camera, and the vignetting/distortion is a cool look I enjoy using a lot in my pictures. Some of the lenses from CCTV or machine vision cameras in particular are made for really tiny sensors, which means getting a perfectly circular image even on my m4/3 camera.

    What a time to be a filmmaker! Thanks for sharing these cool lenses. I learned a thing or two. I have a 8mm camera with 3 d-mount lenses and was wondering why the mount was so tiny 😅

    This video is basically all of my reasoning for buying my Pentax Q. I got it from a japanese seller on e-bay for real cheap like, 200 quid a few years ago (2017?)
    It mounts these vintage lenses beautifully and the whole body fits in any pocket. So you have it on you and can carry a lot of lenses and, you know, just have fun taking pictures.

    Awesome video! Thank you so much for summarising the different mounts and flange distances in such a straight forward manner. I'm currently exploring the use of a Pentax Q system and Micro 4/3 for use with "quirkier" lenses, so this video has been a Godsend! 🙏

    There are D mount to E mount adapters that recess deeply into the mount and allow infinity focus. SHOTEN makes a D-SE adapter like this and there's also a 3D printed one avaialble on ShapeWays. One thing to watch out for is that lenses with wider base might interfere with the adapter recess. Also most D mount lenses have pretty small image circle.

    Sounds like you might want a Pentax Q camera - it's the one digital camera that has a flange distance small enough that it can focus D-mount lenses to infinity. Tiny sensor with a ~5.5x crop factor. FWIW, I found having some super thing metal shim rings helpful to nail infinity focus.

    Get a nikon 1 series body! The j5 can shoot pretty decent video, and since its a 1" sensor you almost always get complete coverage with c mount lenses

    • @EvanMonsma
      @EvanMonsma  10 месяцев назад

      Woah I did not know this existed. I've used the c-mounts on my modded 1" sensor action cam but wasnt aware of the nikon 1 line. Will definitely look more into it

    • @Ardea15
      @Ardea15 10 месяцев назад

      @@EvanMonsma theyre awesome little cameras! The whole line is great, but the J5 and V3 are def the best. But even the J1 and V1 can shoot some pretty solid images and videos. Just watch out for the 10-30mm lenses, theyre notorious for having aperture failures that render them basically useless.

    another can of worms you might wanna consider is harvesting f2.8 lenses for film compacts and custom adapting them by screwing them into lenscaps essentially... currently playing around with one such 40mm f2.8

    My favorite thing about adapting vintage SLR lenses onto mirrorless is that you get the full functionality of the lens for very little cost. They may be more challenging to use but you are using them at 100% of their capacity. As opposed to adapting an electronic SLR lens. Challenging but fun.
