it doesn't have to be a big deal if you don't want to frame it that way in your self-talk. If you fail and it was a high pressure situation, you are free to reconstruct the pressure of the situation in your own mind- you can make yourself look outside of the impacts of the immediate moment if you want to - kind of like how our memories of the past can change with time, but forced into the present moment. if you want, you can say to yourself that you did something funny rather than embarrassing, or perhaps you are on a tighter deadline now, you can see a setback as a challenge or as a blow to your confidence if you choose. Because I believe in existentialism I personally take a fundamental unseriousness as a veil through which I see my life, and that unseriousness allows me to frame the events of my life exactly as I want them to be. another way to say it is that I dont get serious, I get competitive and life has taught me not to be a sore loser.
I think this is a very healthy view on the process of achieving anything. It eludes the unhelpful dichotomy success/failure by addressing mindset, incremental progress, not improving and seeking assistance. This is a great reminder that there are no recipies for success or achievement. In this perspective, success is a matter of design.
Huge struggles in this dept these days, my phone has ruined my ability to focus, years of working 3 jobs nonstop has made me burnt out n too susceptible to stress when something comes up at my one job now. Loved this video!! Great topic!
Always good to show progress or even failures so to help others know it's ok and to do the same if they need to express their frustration or can help inspire them..I figured out a lot from questioning people without getting an answer since i saw what i needed to know and thought about it more to try and figure oit an answer.
Really appreciate topics like these, as we can really learn how you really are in this world dominated by thought of beeing perfect all the time. Wish you good luck for your goals! Have been struggling with these as well ^^.
Another great way to overcome failure is to think of why you are doing it to begin with. Example: trying to lower my blood surfer level. It’s so I can be healthier for my son. Always a great motivation. Also. I would totally buy those sunglasses.
Great video! Its important to talk about these things and yes this video is different from the usual stuff but its very much related to the overall topic of goals
I just scrapped my game project and am reworking everything. It was hard as I worked on it for quite a long time, but it just was not working, it was no fun to play and no fun to make. I dropped it for weeks and felt anxious to return. Today I finally committed to move on. Goal God, it was hard.
As oversimplified as it sounds, we _really_ only learn from failure and the discomfort that results from it. After all, what new comes from repeating a successful procedure?
This video is refreshing thank you man for those great advises , indeed sometimes when i am stuck in a place where i feel failing , my emotions start carastrophizing the situation and this can lead me to a dark place of thoutghs. I will try my best to keep in mind the ideas that you mentionned in this video and i'd like to see more content like that in the channel sometimes , that would help a lot of people 😁✨
Interesting on point 1: I recently started examining my feelings in the same way except I and trying to separate my thoughts from my feelings. Also Vancouver is the best city ever!!
Is it my imagination or did you forget to put a link to Angela Duckworth’s book Grit? I might buy it, I would rather that you benefit from my purchase. Thanks.
Hey you might enjoy reading Range by David Epstein (if you haven't already). It's got a lot of interesting topics, but one is about choosing to give up rather than grit your teeth (a partial refutation of Duckworth's stuff, one she would likely agree with). Love your videos!
It's quite surprising to me why people limit talent to just certain designated things. Why can't the ability to perservere and hardwork be an inherent feature? When you breakdown hard work to it's constituent parts, the vast majority of what you get, are associated with genetic predispositions that vary from human to human - ie. Energy (mitrochondrial density, cardiovascular fitness, pulmonary VO2 max, effective gas exchange), Motivation (DA metabolism, DA receptor site denisty), etc. Angela Duckworth's book grit, doesn't factor in inherent variability. Slight abberations can make a world of difference. That's what won America the WW. Nonetheless a great video!! I just believe a certain assumption or belief is needed to resonate with it. If you take Angela's perspective this video would definately yield benefits. Look too deep into it, and it may appear futile.
Remember success is subjective. It’s the same as saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Any successful person will tell you their hardships along the journey. Furthermore, success isn’t an end destination. It’s a constant journey. Lastly, consider if you’re goal is something YOU really want, not what society says, what do YOU want? That’ll make your attempts to success more desirable in order to encourage your consistency! Good luck guys!
John Irving actually won a National Book Award for "Garp", (for paperback in 1980), not a Nobel. Gosh, that's probably annoyingly nit picky. Sorry. Love your videos!
Do you guys have anything that you've found helpful in dealing with failure?
Talking to your loved ones, as they often see the big picture and tell you how far you've already come which is pretty encouraging :).
Crying lol
I think you're right. Walks are good just to clear your head. I was going on walks with my gf every Friday, but then she broke up with me. Big sad.
A few cans of Busch then get back at it the next day

I’ll watch this after my exam tomorrow.
Ahh,same with me
There are only two things to remember in throughout life:
1. Never Give Up
2. Find A Way

This is great! I'm guilty of catastrophising constantly, and frequently have to remind myself of my own cognitive biases.
Finding this channel is timely. Me all the way. But I am learning.
Very helpful and applicable in many areas of life. Mine, at least, as I am struggling with self-perceived failure in my job, currently.
Really needed this man, you have a great week too!
Guys. Your goals are glorious. Also, new logo is fire.

Great timing. I'm struggling with similar goals in my dance training.

You can only control actions, not outcomes
This was great! These smaller videos are nice in between your bigger ones.
sometimes the biggest things we lift are our feelings.

It's a real clown to clown advice pool down here in the comments section. Just a bunch of stolen quotes and inexperienced life advice.
Great informative vid bro!
