In this RoundTable we sit down with the gang and do a side by side between the best fake Crooked River we could find VS the real deal. We try to point out some obvious differences and help folks buying used knives online or from less reputable sites / swap meets not get swindled full price for a knock off.
Also our Forum Knife Knews - Purpose built reviews and how to's on all things with an edge: www.northernkn...
So glad I saw this. I am totally buying a fake Crooked River on Amazon now.
DO IT
Id rather pay clone price... These brands have lost their minds with the price tags
some have. some not so much. It just depends.
I don't support cloning knives but Benchmade is greedy, so in this case I'm happy their knives are cloned 😂. Crooked river in 2020 was 175 now its 288 over 3 years. Sorry inflation doesn't excuse that bullshit
53-54 Rockwell you're gonna be sharpening and stripping a lot
@@bryand2978I got lucky got one with factory edge from pawn shop for $122 verified it as real
Got my clone in today. The fit and finish is a little off. But it's a nice clone. A real nice clone. Sharp. Heavy. Solid blade, no flex. Definitely a good edc. Not gonna take it into the wilderness. But to do my day to day work, it's a good buy. How much you say?? $24 I say!
About 1-2 years ago, i dont care or research much about knife. This Benchmade 10580 clone is the first one i bought ( i dont even know about Benchmade )
It is 9CR18MOV steel ( as the guy who sold it to me said ), i have spine whack it, batoning, rope cutting, ... The lock dont fail even once & trust me i spine whack it so hard the spine printed on the wooden log. For a 35 USD knife it honestly perform too well, the only bad side is that steel too soft ( poor heat treatment ), you would have to grind it again after 2-3 days average use !
Now the real authentic one cost like 10-15x, and im not support counterfeiting at all, but it sure doesnt feel worthy of that price !
I'd honestly just get a Civivi they perfected the heat treatment on 9cr18mov and it out performs most s30v and m390
More helpful if you did more close ups of the logo difference. Bought one if these and am questioning the legitimacy of it.
We will from here on out
I got one for $120 I was worried it was fake but I got it verified
I wonder how many of these fake knives benchmade gets sent in to them for warranty work only to find out they’re fake
A LOT
And I heard Benchmade doesn't return counterfeits, rightfully so, but has the government done anything? They are probably too busy printing money.
@@ZoneCrasher well I'm not from the US, but I assure you most countries have adequate laws in place, BUT you can't check every incoming package for whether it contains a fake, so they get through and into the market of those who want to buy it.
@@ZoneCrasher
Typical case of:
The laws are there.
The enforcement is not.
@@ZoneCrasherThey do not.
Do they weigh similar with same type of steel? The comparison on the handle and liner parts are pointless
The handle of the clone is ever so slightly thinner !
Any real knife guy could easily tell the difference and if you actually get a good one from benchmade they are both good knives only the clone is 10x less money , butt I would not trust benchmade to mail a good one, go to the store and check them thoroughly I have seen youtubers that went through 5 knives at the store before they found a good one !!
I have never recieved a bad clone ( I only collect clones of stupid high greedy priced knife companies knives ) they are good knives cnc is cnc !
Lol. Why didn't you edit the video?? She looks pissed! 😂
It is. Poorly but edited none the less
You gotta be rich or brain-dead to pay $500 + for a f*ckin pocket knife that's not even worth $200. Also, the fake one is much more of an interesting conversation starter when you're being honest about it. In fact, all my buddies want one! 😃
watchman makes the mini crooked river clone ( no brand )custom $40.00 ,you can get custom features on the clone crooked river large $50.00 now ! D2 steel 56-60 as good as xhp or s35vn ! s30 is repackaged and lyhyped 440 ! !
did you say you were going to do an un-bias review ?
I'm bias to the clones because I bought the crooked river large and mini ,the mini came with a broken spring and the lousy quality control at benchmade combined with their greedy rip off customer disloyal price and they sent me a total cull completely unfinished knife ( to many F ups to list ) ,yeah I know send it back ! right ? I paid the stupid high price so that I could get a usable well finished knife and not do the send the cull back game ! when I go out to eat if the rib eye is not done medium well , I do not send it back I just don't go there any more !
I finished it myself !
I buy low priced ( not cheap ) good quality knives all the time ( gift them a lot ) and have not received a cull yet !
just ordered the mini $139.00 , a somewhat reasonable price ,we'll see if it isn't a cull !
With ya! I bought a couple of BM' and Kershaw's at full price. I'll pick up some hq knockoffs before so give benchmade $200+.
Like your reviews. But as much as you put down Chinese meat product you should not be using Chinese made tools to disassemble your knives. For people like me with that have instinctive eyes.
easiest way is the logo on the blade. real is smooth, fake is raised.
come on, be honest, this is a biased round table !
We do what we want
How much is Benchmade paying you to trash the factory seconds being released by the real manufacture of several models of their knifes.
I say this with having 2 Taggedout styles that I purchaded for $24.00 and $20.00. Both are just as good as the $180.00 one I own.
Not enough obviously or our production value would be so much better. Wish they would at least send enough for a 6 pack
Empirically not true. Please post up testing and we can take a look.
"Just as good and will do" Like comparing Husky to Proto Tool? Both do the same job fairly well but id rather use a dead blow hammer on a Proto and not have a Husky shatter on me.
@@Northernknives Bend over then. Since your willing to over pay for a plastic handled knife, when you can save yourself some money and perhaps Benchmade needs to take the rejected knifes verse leaving them with the real manufacture.
If it costs 4x as much as it should it's the real one ! Nothing like a bias review , gang bias no less ! These knives are made with Chines cnc machines, even the so called real ones that are said to be made in America (I have not heard of an American cnc machine ,maybe you have ) !
And the steel BS hype ! D2 is the best edge holding next is xhp ,s30v is repackaged 440 not even as good edge holding as 440c , s35vn is near as good as xhp ! But wait s40 v is coming and you can hype that !
I bought the real crooked river, it arrived nearly totally unfinished ( the sides of the blade were like a file that had been grounded a little , that was just one thing )! I bought the clone , it arrived perfect out of the box !
The clone is slightly thinner in the handle too !
Oh! Yeah ! I finished The real one and gave it as a gift ! And kept the clone ! I'm a user not a collector but I do collect clones of way way over priced and over hyped knives !
I paid 4x what it was worth so as to get a perfect knife out of the box !! I just think of someone going over seas waiting for this knife and it arrives just in time ,unfinished ! And before I gifted it the springs broke both of them in fact every benchmade knife I have ( the real ones ) the springs have broken , my crooked river mini arrived with a broken spring ! All replaced with Ganzo (G) lock springs that have not broken in all the years that I have used them ,and used them !
@@pitbull_angel at my local the clone is 35 usd, real one cost 400 usd which is nearly 12x. A lots of benchmade are overpriced
¹knock the clone ,but not the geedy rip off price that benchmade charges ( I bought the real crooked river , it was delivered unfinished ,the side of the blade looked like a file that was not ground flat, all the edges all over the knife were sharp enough to cut you )! Bothe the clone and the so called real one are made on Chinese cnc machines ! But benchmade does not pass on the vast sav1ing in skilled labor to the customer .you know like a patriotic loyal to the customer company would !!!
Hard Cringe.
