  • July 2023... Late July 2023. Lots of snow above 9000 ft. And the mosquitoes were happy. This is a two night backpacking trip in the Emigrant Wilderness from Kennedy Meadows, to Emigrant Lake and North Fork Cherry Creek Falls, Stanislaus National Forest. Northern California waterfalls.
Mosquito school is over. Summer is here. The mosquitoes are ready to lay waste to the Sierra Nevada and from what I had heard, they were already having a party. A bloody party.
I hate mosquitoes! This is why I never go backpacking in the summer. But this is the year of the record snow pack, is it not? Maybe I could get one last backpacking trip in before the party got too ugly. The weather forecast looked very promising at the beginning of the week. Delta breeze. Cool temperatures. However, by the end of the week all that was gone. The heat was back. No wind. The mosquitoes were revving up for the weekend. Should I even go? I decided to continue my plan in hopes that they would not be too bad at the location I had chosen. I mean, how bad could it really be?

Oh WOW this video has everything in it! That first meadow was gorgeous! Perfect picture setting! So many beautiful flowers! Like the new shoes!! I see you are still practicing those dance moves, nice job 😄 Love all those waterfalls, you got to see so many on this hike! That lake had awesome reflections on it!!! Those mosquitos looked huge! Don't drink the pink snow, lol exactly! So neat you can still see snow in July! So many horses and horse poop on this hike!!

yeah it's pretty popular with horses. One group said they were going to Emigrant Lake (where I went), but I don't see how horses would be able to manage the steep snow fields. Seems crazy to me. Ah well. It was certainly an amazing trip. Thanks so much.

Nice shoes, awesome bridge dance, i bet the driver was petrified! Your putting us to shame Leon, that was a belter of a bridge dance redo! Love the bear poop! Looks stunning out there, the waters are crystal clear. I bet that river was really refreshing. Such a rugged yet rewarding terrain. The noise of the falls was incredible, hope the mosquitoes left you alone. Cherry Creek a real stunner. You have the same mosquito nets we use in the summer to keep the flies away! Some great technical shots! Skipping on the third consecutive day.. thats incredible! And twirls ❤

Summit Creek Falls was flowing a bit swiftly🤍@ 2:36 Gorgeous contrasting scenery with the bald ridge lying between Relief Reservoir and the evergreens in the backdrop🌲Nice underwater shot of the crystalline stream and the wildflowers look extremely bright against the beige landscape. Snowcapped ridges were captivating🏔The falls were breathtaking as well as the natural ambience🌿Fully enjoyed this trek with you as always, thank you for letting us tag along!😎10:15 👍🏽8

Finally, I didn't know Amy Grant had a wilderness named after her. Awesome ,awesome shots in there and great edit. Thank s for making my morning cardio a little easier.

If you are not bridge twirling you are walking across rivers lol and despite the sun, still plenty of snow about too. Nice looking Falls there and great place to camp and watch the skies rolling by. I take it was the horses pooping on the bridge and not you....cheers Alan
