Lyrics:
Go through solid stages not noticing me.
Hands hold tightly. No one shares.
Doll it up! (At the rate the paint is peeling off the wall,)
We'll need to cover it! (Cover it!)
Before it all falls apart! (Oh, it'll all fall apart.)
Truss it up! (At the rate the skin is sloughing off our bones,)
They'll need to bury us. (Bury us!)
Because we all fall apart. Yeah, we all fall apart.
The open mouths of these rooms are connected by a hallway, dark and narrow,
That we pass through like marrow through bone.
And we do it alone.
I miss the point and wish I still didn't dream.
A taste gone mad, a sweet sadness, my favorite feeling.
The whispering walls sound like an endless corridor
And at this rate, all the paint is peeling off the walls.
(And all I want to do is chase it) before it all falls apart
(down the hall made out of frozen faces.)
(Expressionless, eyes to the ground and lips locked tight, ever so quiet, ever so quiet.)
And I never choose to taste hallucinations of what I've seen.
(Because I don't see the difference between chasing ghosts in dreams and chasing dreams in life.)
Doll it up! All the ones still close to us,
Are the ones that most of us still don't see,
Still don't see the way.
I would have thought that,
it could be the sympathetic solution, disillusion.
And if I stayed or left would you notice more or less of my existence?
Out of the corner of my eye,
I see the ghost stutter-stepping like strobe lights,
ever-inching closer, but always out of reach.
So I hold my breath and keep it under my tongue,
And wait until both of my lungs are filled.
If I count to ten, will it all go away?
Brushed aside or pushed aside:
A difference in tension, intention and force applied.
Cast aside or passing by people as canvases:
blank outside and bleak inside.
We learned (and it caused other things asunder)
to stay (and avoiding all the turmoil)
out of the way of each other.
Just stay out of the way!
Always colliding with the things that we had tried hard to avoid we just,
(Bury them, close our eyes, cover it up. But what was buried managed to unlock the door even though we had boarded them, nailed them shut, hid the keys.)
Will we (in for it now) ever (board up the house) find (happiness, clarity, peace of mind?
Follow me down the hallway.)
If I should take a fall,
don't look back.
Pick a door. Any door. Any door! NOW!
(And now we all fall apart, Now we all fall apart)
And now we sit in what was built on our dreams.
A space, now sad, speaks madness,
attempts concealing the crumbling walls.
It feels like our time is getting short.
And it's too late cause all the paint is lying on the floor.
Did we selfishly erase it?
(And we have all ignored the fault.)
Busy filling mirrors with our damn faces?
Circling flaws that we find without respite,
what do we find?
What do we find?
And in the meantime, all the vultures circle us in hopes to feed.
Because they don't see the difference between,
Death disguised as life,
and life with lifeless eyes.
(Doll it up!) All the ones still close to us,
are the ones that most of us,
still don't see, the way.
(I would of thought)
I would have thought that it could be,
the sympathetic solution, disillusion.
(Because we all fall apart, Now we all fall apart)
The open mouths close!!
#ALotLikeBirds #NoPlace
One of the best swancore songs ever made. This was fucking art... We need this era back badly
I’m so mad that I discovered this band too late. I’d love to see them live. But I also glad that I discovered them to enjoy the music they left behind. These guys are amazing.
Agreed dude, I just discovered them a couple of days ago it's a real shame they broke up.
same here, late to the game but grateful
5 months but worth a shot... Please tell me you've listened to Royal Coda
@@dominicdunn2579 ill check it out
@@jessecopeman579 Check out the new song Royal Coda just dropped! The same singer and melodies 🔥
Good fucking lord what an absolute masterpiece
"hey what are you listening to?"
"a lot like birds"
"oh I haven't heard of them what are they like"
"birds"
+Daniel Kane A lot.
+Daniel Kane Birdcore
DGD mixed with Fall of Troy mixed with 30 Seconds To Mars
I hear a hardcore Circa Survive? :D
@alexis olmsted
i think they call that "soasin"
There’s no explanation on how much I love this song
Damn how did I just find this song/band today?? Im already in love holy shit
If you like this I recommend Hail the Sun and Circa Survive.
Don't forget The Mars Volta, Amarionette and The Fall of Troy
Dimitri Michael Gragirene Heck yeah. Also Sianvar and Stolas
#Swancore
Dimitri Michael Gragirene Swancore for life
how about dance gavin dance i want more experimental w. post hardcore elemtal
can someone suggest me more thx
"The whispering walls sound like an endless corridor..." The instrumentation from A Lot Like Birds is always top notch... Those riffs, the grooves... The vocal melodies, the harmonies, the screams... Definitely one of my all time favourite songs and videos.
I really like how the intensity and power of the song just builds up in the beginning.
R.I.P A Lot Like Birds
Poetrycore.
Ha that's La Dispute mate.
mateo jackson i could write better limerick...
mateo jackson La Dispute doesn't write poetry, all they do is cry.
You want poetry go listen to "An American Prayer" by The Doors.
Note: the birds aren't a genre. They are the birds.
Blake Stigerts la dispute are articulate, every single word has a place. Their words are beautiful. Their melodies mimic the poetry. This band has potential but their lyrics are just kind of a whole big bunch of similar words put together... Like none of this actually makes any sense.. It lacks meaning. Yeah it might sound good but when you really think about it..
I mean clearly you made that comment because you've never actually listened to la dispute. You should give them a try, it might like change your life or something.
xxbritttxx
What meaning are you talking about?
Because all I see at those shows are kids with no cash who are completely dependent on their parents.
And they're too fucking sad to grow up and make a living for themselves so they sit around and cry all day.
There is NOTHING good about flooding your ears with depression.
You need therapy.
The author managed to capture the whole "No Place" conception in one video. pure genius. from No Nurture daddy issues, to that bedroom scene from Hand Over Mouth, Over And Over. Suicide attempt pictured in Kuroi Ledge is also here. Just listen to the whole album once again and watch this video right after.
THIS IS WHY THIS IS THE CONNECTOR!
Exactly!! Thank you for realizing that! I do not believe a generic Rise Records styled music video with the actual band playing could have done Connector justice the way this does, beautiful.
GdMABtch Blew my mind O.o
holy fuck four year later you just blew my fucking mind
Growing up in a destructive household I deeply relate to the message of this song.
What you grow up in really determines your mentality later in life if you were abused in any way or if your family had major conflicts it’s easier just to watch the paint pealing off the walls and cover it up because the pain of confronting your past can be oh so very heavy
But if left covered we end up dolling up and being fake with lifeless eyes trampling over the future and are dreams and time will eventually grow short for us and we die
And all the paint is lying on the floor
Keeping you lips looked tight is not the way to get though your trauma
This deserves at least a mill views....
It's on its way! I was surprised how many it has
this could just be the best thing i saw and heard in 2014..
There are 6 drummers on this song and you can't convince me otherwise.
I remember first hearing these guys during the Dance Gavin Dance 10 year anniversary tour, was awesome.
This band is probably the most refreshing music i've stumbled upon in a while.
I feel so grateful for the person who recommended this band to me.
Also, can someone describe the genre of this band? I can't tell. The tempo and the drums sound hard rock, but the screaming and guitar is almost nü metal, or alternative metal.
+Soulless Jack why label it? it's A Lot Like Birds. They did something different. Rock and roll bruh
William McNerny So I can describe it to a friend to recommend it to them, rather than the conversation going,
Me: Hey, I found this awesome band called A Lot Like Birds.
Friend: Oh, cool. What are they like?
Me: Birds.
Friend: ...You've been waiting all day to say that, haven't you?
Me: Yes.
Nothing's wrong with that. Just play them when you're hanging out. If they're interested they'll ask.
William McNerny Hopefully. This band needs more exposure!
There's just so many ways to interpret this video. I've watching it about 12 times in the last 3 days and I still find something new when I watch it.
That video was awesome (the song is too, obviously) but the amount of time it must have taken to put that entire thing together is admirable. My eyes were glued to the screen the entire time, it felt like I was watching a dream of mine through a RUclips video.
done entirely by one person btw
Homosexual Pirate that's awesome as hell I wish I had that much talent aw dude
Colliding With Mars i couldn't of explained that better
Your description is so accurate. Definitely has a surreal aspect to it that reminds me of my dreams... now that I think about it our mind can be a dark dark place...
I love how this video just takes you through the entire concept of the album
Dance Gavin Dance are my favourite band, and I am getting mad DGD vibes from this (and not just because of Kurt)
I dig it so much!
did you mean swancore
I'm gonna dig your grave
its the same guy that does dance gavin dances animated videos as well
DGD with Kurt was my least favorite version of them but I love him in this. Very similar sound at times but for some reason he just fits better here at least for me.
ITS A SAD TIME TO BE A FAN 😢
this is cinema
This is amazing. Solidifies No Place as my #1 album of 2013. The concept is just so well thought out and this video just takes you through it. Good job boys.
I usually find myself underwhelmed with the alternative/post hardcore scene. But damn the instrumentals that come from this band along with the constant twists and turns they take keep you oh so very intrigued the entire time!!!
This is one of the greatest intros to a song ive ever heard
so I heard this song around when it first came out and thought it was just phenomenal and then I just forgot about it till today and i remembered the music video but couldn't think of the band or song title till I was reading the comments on another song and it clicked and i'm so glad i found them again every lyric is just beautiful and has an impact and its very rare for music to do it this well a lot like birds is a band that comes around very rarely there just inspiring in so many ways I don't know how else to put it I'm hooked
Was my first time at warped tour and saw these guys for the first time, That Kurt guy had vocals like Judas Priest. Met them also and they were the coolest guys. This whole band is super impressive.
Freakin' amazing...Anyone else get a "Silent Hill" vibe from this...I just never get enough of this band. Thier music/sound is so progressive in the most subtle of way...Turn it up!!!
Pick a door, any door, any do-, wait no, not that one, you just came through that one.
I miss these homies like you wouldn't believe
My favorite song of all time period
Which time period? Mine is the Nara Period of Japan......
Poyo San Mesozoic for me.
This was amongst my favorite albums growing up. Yet I've never seen this video.
It hits hard with the extreme insomnia and in and out of a death bed.
Fuck. To reflect on what this life has become.
This is a musical masterpiece
I will ever got chills and tears for this song.
🔄
Unbelievable, what a ride.
Welcome back and see you guys in Orlando on the 30th
The musical talent in this song is insane. I can't appreciate it enough.
When this song ends, it is one that you think it was 2:00 long; then you realize all the best things in life seem short-lived.
I love the mood the piano sets and the high singing at the beginning.
if schizophrenia, acid, and silent hill had an illegitimate child aired on adult swim, this would be the product. i dig it.
machiaveli42 or just good ole DPH
Huh that is oddly what this would be. Good eye.
Just a weird commercial skit thing lol
Super jail anyone??
Pro tip : you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Jad Luciano Definitely, I've been watching on Flixzone} for years myself :D
One of the greatest concept albums ever written.
i feel like charlie kelly on a glue overdose watching this
spiders
Yes
Love the illustration style.
This song and video are absolutely fucking brilliant. The words have such deep meaning and the video just brings it alive
This is hands down one of the best music videos I've ever seen. Did some serious overkill on the song itself but I still come back and watch the video all the time.
Just wow
Blows my mind in an amazing way.
No Place is one of the greatest albums to ever grace human ears
with all the generic hardcore music around these days I can say with no hesitation A Lot Like Birds is one of the absolute best bands in the hardcore industry right now. So unique, so underrated.
There's plenty of hardcore music out there that isn't generic, just listen to Architects. But I will agree with you in the underrated department.
While I do love this band, they sounds sooo sooo similar to Dance Gavin dance, which is also an amazing band
epicnate98 alaska, caravels
anthony grant nah like I've said. A lot like birds compared to DGD is like the marsvolta compared to at the driveIn. But I'm not gonna argue because its all good shit ;)
Hail The Sun check em out
Love this band. This sounds like the old DGD I loved and it also brings a new feel to it. This album is amazing.
What a fucking intro .. the build up. Such talent
The scene with the wedding couple in gas masks with falling ash reminds me of this island off of Japan called Miyake-Jima, the inhabitants are required to carry gas masks at all times. One famous picture depicts a wedding crowd, all of whom are in gas masks.
God, so good
58k? This deserves AT LEAST 10x that, for the song AND video! Amazing band and amazing video.
This Song is just so amazing!
this is so unsettlingly cool im mesmerized
Absolutely amazing.
Played a show with these guys last friday in seattle they're awesome live!
This is probably my favorite music video. Ever.
I like these type of songs where they're focused on telling a story through their lyrics, but the thing I don't like is, I could never sing this song, sure there are a few catchy parts, but after that I'm lost
It's not too bad after listening to it a bunch. Time frequently changes from 4/4 to 3/4, and variances of those time signatures.
oren trace Its not that the time frequently changes from 4/4 to 3/4, I believe Micheal has a thing for playing is 7/4 even though you are correct cause technically the time is counted 1,2,3,4, 1,2,3 its just another way to look at their writing.
DGD is so damn unique and I likes them even after Kurt was gone but after I found ALLB I listen to them both so much.
Holy shit that was amazing. Normally I don't go for animated music video but...damn that was grand. I love how it went through every room in the house, like going through each song.
this is brilliant. Song, video, the whole thing. Fuckin great.
I absolutely love the story that this music video tells. It gave me chills, and it's probably one of the best music videos I've seen in a LONG time. Incredible.
I wholeheartedly agree with that statement
Totally hooked on this! Words can not express how deep Kurt's voice hits me.
Yes! My most favourite track form No Place album has music video!
Thank god for A lot like birds and this video
Ah man, to put into a picture all of these feelings so I can listen and see, and combine them to feel what they are trying to convey is great. I love John Howe and the animation, this by far is my favorite one of his.
The part where the character takes his mask off, stands on the balcony and looks at the stars before trying to kill himself. Man. I tear up every damn time.
just found this band - they are way underated!
This got released on my birthday. Best birthday ever.
happiness, clarity, peace of mind sounds like a DGD lyric
I literally felt "Aww" as soon as the music video ended. i wanted to see more lol. overall beautiful song and enticing video. never got bored.
That was amazing...I loved the artwork and the meaning put behind it.. This song is amazing and I will forever tell all my friends about you guys and about how much you all have changed me.. how much you all have done so much for me without even knowing.. Keep it up ALLB I will forever be your fan.
holy chills man
Gets 1st min of song stuck in head.. Replays 1st min over n over again
Might be off, But i'm thinking the guy in the video is stuck in purgatory. reliving moments of his life while trying to escape them but being unable to. Its a thought. Still really enjoy the video and song.
Well, watching that on a large screen was a trip.
Exactly what im going to do.
4:30 that bass solo is so beautiful :')
this is my favorite blink 182 song
omg
why are we not friends
i dont even remember posting this who am i
+norovera winning youtube lol
lucavelli i love you
we opened up for these guys in tulsa when they came through. Kurt and everyone in the band are the nicest dudes ever.
NeoRomantics Music I must agree. I got to meet Kurt and the band a couple months ago in Saint Louis. I was so excited that I accidentally just shook his thumb instead of his hand and he just laughed it off and said he'd rather hug it out. Got a couple pics with him. Super chill dude.
oh if he would manage our band, i'd cry. I almost got to take lessons from their drummer when they came through. That would have made my life. Hannah Lowery
Loved both the song and video clip. Absolutely brilliant!
I've been looking for this song for two years or so and finally came across it today OMG! 0.0
Damn! That was amazing! I have chills after watching
Joe was my drum teacher at The Drum Lab in Carmichael, CA. He's such a cool guy, and such a good drum teacher. If you ever meet him, ask him about jazz, it's a realy good conversation starter for him.
Don't know how I found this but I like it
Thank you for choosing this song! Best on the album!
As soon as he started singing, I knew it was kurt Travis. I've actually never heard of this band till now cause of warped and was wondering where kurt went after DGD. Sweet song.
Imagine this in VR
Beautiful, I like the incorporation of the whole "l'appel du vide" thing from kuroi
felt so much feelings.. cannot even explain my joy right now. thank you.
Esta canción me duele demasiado, lamento tanto haberla olvidado por tanto tiempo
About to go see them live 2moro in Sacramento
This movie is brilliant. No damage done to the lyrics but these images hold more metaphorical value than any word anyone can express. Visual representation will always prove more sincere. But I'm learning to listen better. Thanks, ALLB. beautiful vid.
John Howe // you beauty
an epic track put into visual
A LOT LIKE BIRDS
i will forever love you
tak tohle se jim tedy povedlo. super videoclip a hudba je prostě senzací pro uši.
Thank you ki 🖤
I'm so glad I got to see you guys. I'm looking forward to whatever you're planning on releasing next because honestly, No Place was album of the year for me. Sweet video, guys.
Im in love with it :c
The entire album in one video. Fucking amazing.
