This match was dubbed "The Thriller in the Chiller" afterwards. I still think it was one of the greatest Finals in Super Rugby's history. The SARS-COV2 virus has effectively caused the end of Super Rugby as we knew it as the NZ and Aussie teams have parted ways with South Africa at Super Rugby level. During the initial 25 years of Super Rugby the Crusaders were the only team to win a Final away from home in another country, the game in this video and the 2017 Final in Johannesburg against the Lions. The Bulls (2007) and Highlanders (2015) won away Finals but they were in their respective countries. It was very hard to win finals away from home and the Crusaders won two others in NZ away from Christchurch (1998 and 1999). No other year saw an away team win a title.
I remember this final well, the Brumbies absolutely hammering the Crusaders in all aspects BUT the final scoreboard. To win the Super 12 title in the enemy territory in such fashion was just incredible for the Crusaders back then!
@@annefilippobertozzi7601 Conversely, the Brumbies were awarded a string of penalties that were dubious at best. You can always cherry-pick reasons to subjectively justify why your team should have won - and, indeed, that is perhaps your duty - but ultimately, I think few would have felt the Crusaders winning wasn't the proper result at the end of the day. Terrific defence and took their chances when they got them - what else is there?
@@Harold2230 i'm not a Brumbies' fan: I'm just impartial. What I said is plain evidence: all being the same, with any (not only Dan Carter...) other kicker, Brumbies would have won this game.

Swop the kickers and the Brumbies would have won hands down.
Mortlock has always been a long distance kicker, not a precise one.
