Back to photography videos after this! Here's my original, 40-minute long odyssey video all about the Minidisc format, for anyone who missed it: ruclips.net/video/QXy7sYENN_c/видео.html
as someone that works with retreaving audio and video from obsolete media, buying one of these from eBay a few years ago was the best I could have done. The ability to grab the files directly from the disk without having to play them back is a gamechanger and gets the full quality of the original recordings. Excelent to retrieve orchestral music recordings from my orchestra and my college of music recordings from the early 2000s!
I loved those inline remotes on my old minidisc, I had a net-md version that had stupid three time check in/check out system, transcoded the mp3's to a proprietary format and was before the higher capacity discs so around 600mb cd's iirc - but I loved that little box and that remote was the best thing any portable audio player I've had since has been sorely lacking - hell, I'd pay some good money to have one that would plug in to my phone..
In 2012 when the device eventually went out of production, I got the chance to snag up one at a discount in Hong Kong when the MD players were on clearance sale. I was haggling over a price difference of 150 yuan (~$20) and eventually didn't buy it. What a mistake I have made back then! Now, staring at my box of old MDs and players, I terribly regret that I missed the opportunity to grab the last in the line and save it for the next generation… 😭
The machine is a marvel of engineering, though complicated IMO. I have both the black and sliver in my collection, together with NH-3D and NH1 as well as several others. I bought my devices 10 years ago and have seen prices skyrocket over the last couple years. Back when these were mainstream I refused to buy Sony hardware due to their anti consumer, proprietary, DRM infested products. Now those lockdown restrictions have largely been overcome. Cool device. She is a sexy thing.
I still have my Sony MZ-NH900 HiMD MiniDisc recorder. It works and uses a NiMH stick battery and has the screw on AA battery holder. I have a few of those HiMD discs. I got my Sony from Argos at a cheap price because new MiniDiscs were inroduced to support MP3. I stopped using it because I switched to the first Sony Walkman phone. For me MP3 and mobile phones was the perfect combination. Then add the camera. I had a few Walkman phones, each better than the last with better cameras. In a way, I think one section of Sony helped kill off MiniDisc.
Nice hardware, however I reckon the software they made to help get the files on from the CD’s via computer really sucked. Times sure have come along way since then. I think I still have my one of these players in a box somewhere and a few long dead gum stick batteries. By the way, it doesn’t have much contrast in the corners wide open either.
Can someone please answer? So I have the Sony MD Walkman MZ-r37, I have some audiobooks that are longer than 80mjns, my question is if my device is capable of recording/playback on HIMD-minidiscs? As they have 1GB/45hrs it’s a no brainer but are on the expensive side….and clearly a waste of money if my device can’t support playback/recording on this specific disc, if someone can please reply? Thanks
you need HiMD device, R37 wont even read LP2, LP4, you can sell yours and buy another one if you wish, but when you have spare money, just buy MD player....it is fun to have a collection. I have about 30 players and 80 pre-recorded MD's

It’s a bit soft in the corners
I love the look of this one! It looks like a tech something Kojima Productions or Atlus would use as inspirations for their games!
I always wanted one of these, couldn't justify the asking price though.
same!
You buy it, play with it and sell it, possibly you will even make some profit.
Love these retro reviews.
Had no idea I would enjoy these off-topic review!

It sounds fine up to volume 11, but at volume 16 it gets soft due to the effects of diffraction.
How does perform against bright light?

And here we go

Best in show🎉
How is it in bright lights though? 😂 I'd watch any video you publish.
