Hi Good one and WOW that was some amazing playing near the end, certainly endless room for my improvement.
I would use a Mesa Rectoverb 50 Combo, no pedals needed for me as I use the channels and guitar volume as a boost, so I'll have 2 amps (the 2nd being either a Fender Super Sonic 22 or a Engl Screamer 50 which you can access 4 tonal modes with increasing levels of gain via a 2 button Footswitch footswitch). Guitar = Fender Stratocaster which I've modded to be HSS Dimarzio Tone Zone, Custom Shop Fat 50s single coils and my secret weapon a 10 way Freeway switch. Enjoy and regards. But now I need to buy that HB amp too :)

My choices will be based on equipment I’ve own at some point in time. Guitar, Gibson Explorer I like the amount of options it gives me tone wise. Which is pretty much anything volume and tone related. Amp, Marshall vs100. It gives me the power and tones I like for my style of noise. Pedals, Boss Rv6 because I like some low levels of effects this pedal gives me for my style of disturbing the peace. Pedal 2, Boss Sd1, for extra misery on the over all combined distortion between the amp and overdrive pedal. It does get to my level of evil. Last but not least, in agreement with you...a volume pedal because they just add that extra level of creativity that I find mesmerizing. Fucking great video Elmo!

It is actually not much less than the pedalboard I'm using right now... I'm using a simple cheap Zoom G2.1u in the loop as delay/reverb/mastervolume, an Boss SD, 1 a TC Electronic Spark clean boost and an extra buffer pedal, but I can do without. So, I would go with similar pedals, except for the volume pedal.
I'd use a strat, my trusted combo for over 25 years (Marshall Valvestate VS 100) with the overdrive (Boss SD 1), a delay pedal in the loop and instead of a volume pedal, my clean boost (after the SD 1, just to give it this kick for soloing). I've always used the volume knob of my guitar for volume anyway...

Thanks for this video, I wanted to hear how tube15 would sound with Riverside, and maybe in the future I will take one RIverside aswell :) My current set (on a budget): Tube15, Harley Benton TE-20, HB Digital delay, BOSS SD1 and third pedal would be some decent noise gate for which I will save some money (maybe TC electronic Sentry). I have to mention that I'm using volume pedal - Chaos mini volume box from Chaos custom shop in Poland which provides interesting pedals for competitive prices. First of all I have bought Tube15 thanks to your review and Dave Simpson review. I needed something I could learn basics and practise with without being thrown away by crappy sound. To be honest I thought this guitar would sound much worse but I am still positively surprised. 15 years ago I had a Ibanez guitar that cost me a little bit more than whole set I listed above. Then I had some transistor 10W Laney amp which sounded terrible... I really didnt want to grab guitar and learn/practise more but my budget was used :) Now I'm really happy,. Things I would change: it would be that Boss OD1 because it affects tube15 tubeq5 overdriven sound, I mean it changes the tone somehow. It doesnt sound bad (I'm using it as a booster for overdriven amp) but I think that with that boost it is doing something to soound of the amp. I will be searching for some pedal that will be able to give heavy boost without changing amp character too much; and second thing I would change is pickup set in that telecaster to something with higher output.

Totally agree that volume/wah pedals are underrated and essential. If you can get a good quality combo that's great but the volume part is the most important aspect. Too many times I've launched into a blistering lead only to have it fall on it's ass because the sound guy is not from my band and either doesn't care or is, horror of horrors, a keyboard player who has spent too many hours being taken for granted as a "Rhythm Slave" to the guitarist in his band and loves to get a bit of his own back. That sux !! Great amp for the $$, I only wish that geography didn't preclude we Aussies from joining in the bargains from Thomann. Oh well. You do love your Strymons, eh? They do sound good I must admit. Good episode as per, Elmo. Cheers. Mark.

Fess up Elmo, now that you had time to noodle over the editing, what was the alternative amp that came to your mind ?
As for me, the basic n00b player, I will go for what works right now: Fender Lead III -> Fender Engager -> Fender Super Sonic 60 -> in the loop Boss EH-2 + JHS Little Black Amp Box (to dial it down).
I think I could use a volume pedal in the loop instead of the JHS, but I could accidently tear a wall down ... so not ideal. And yeah, I miss out on delay, eq, and more. I guess the cheat would be to replace the Engager with a HX Stomp. Truth be told, while practicing, I tend to use my tiny Fender Greta with an external cab, and I am not likely to ever do more then jam with friends, so that would work.

I haven't watched the whole video yet, so I don't know your choices. Here goes mine:
Guitar: Flying V with a Kahler on it. Medium-high output bridge pickup and medium-output neck pickup on it, as well.
Amp: Plexi or plexi-based half-stack with sound-alikes of vintage greenback G12M25's and G12H30's in X formation and a post-phase-inverter master volume.
    Pedals: TU-2 or TU-3, TS-808, DS-1.
Why: Fun. With just one guitar and three pedals, you're not going to get versatility. So go for a great, fun-to-play tone and jam out. Since plexis were originally based on Fender circuits, they can sound really good clean. They obviously can sound great overdriven. The tuner pedals for obvious reasons. I like how the TS-808 Tube Screamer, set as a boost, sounds in front of almost all amps, but especially in front of a plexi, so it'd usually be on for regular rock rhythm. The DS-1 (set mostly as a boost) to lay on extra umph for solos. For clean, turn the boost pedal(s) off and back the guitar's volume off.
I didn't include any multi-effect pedals because I thought it might be against the spirit of the thought problem.
Okay, I'll watch the rest of the video now...
    Interesting.
Well, if multi-effect pedals are allowed, that would change the rig considerably.
In that case I might go for a guitar *like* an RG550 (not an Ibanez RG, though, I don't like those necks) with HSH pickups and coil-splitting and maybe something like a Quad Cortex floor unit (they do *E V E R Y T H I N G* these days) and a good, loud FRFR stereo amp. Then I could model just about any rig I'd care to play.
I think I have two pedals left over. Maybe I'll take two groupies instead...

    • @MrPolevaulter
      @MrPolevaulter  3 года назад +1

True. Didn't really think about multi effects as such. The Quad Cortext could do the whole rig basically :D

What an interesting video. Great vid.
I would use either a Peavey 5150 amp of some type, or a solid state amp such as an Orange or Katana, or hybrid Orange head.
An overdrive for sure. An EQ pedal probably as a boost. I would use reverb on the amp. I would have to have my wah.
I would have guessed you would have used your marshall and SD1. 😀
The volume pedal is a great idea, but I would probably change channels on the amp and the lead channel would have reverb and would be a few dbs louder if needed.
Who has their own soundman? 🤣 I always used friends and bribed them with beer and food! 🤣 Usually showing them which knob to crank when they hear me playing lead with tape marking all the knobs for everyone on the mixer. . 🤣
Guitar would be either an S series Ibanez or my LP Jr. Probably the later as it just works.

Commenting before watching: is it a Marshall Plexi, a custom mahogany strat with YJM fury pickups, a Fender Yngwei Malmsteen Overdrive, Delay, and a tuner? EDIT: You tricked me! Haha. Mine would probably be my Gibson SG, my Marshall DSL40, my Klon KTR, my Wampler Ethereal, and probably a tuner if I were playing live.

Pia , REVV generator mark 3, helix( that covers the 3 pedals). This is my selection because its my Dream rig , all the sonic options I could ever ask for and more.

Elmo the magician, why does that amp behind you on your right look like a Dumble?? It's been driving me nuts! Could it be...? Ok if it's one amp, ADA Viper combo or Dean Markley CD-60 (1980s model) Markley sounds great, all tubes, I put Rola Celestion in, and oh it loves every pedal. ADA Viper doesn't need pedals, the overdrive sounds are glorious from blues to killer metal, plus many awesome features. Ok, go with ADA. I love my Flamma Ekoverb, I can play crap and go to shimmering, ambient Heaven, also by Flamma the FS-06 preamp pedal, cheating, because you have 7 classic amps in one small pedal and you can set up a clean and drive channel for each! Thanks much King Elmo, Bruce.

    • @MrPolevaulter

Cheers Bruce! It looks like a Dumble, but it isn't. There is a Dumble in the house though, although I'm not sure it works. It's not mine though.

Will people choose gear they have played on or dream gear? From gear I actually played on, a 1990s Rivera Combo (borrowed, I think a 55-12) and a PRS EG-2 HSH (owned). Used whatever Boss OD or time effect pedal I had at the time. No point choosing gear I haven't ever played on.

En frågeställning i stil med: Is this gr8 for the heavy or the progressive? Is there a middleground? Eller nåt. Det tror jag att du skulle kunna ha en bra diskussion kring.
Det saknas en del i gebitet. Bara en tanke såhär på en fredag. Trevlig helg farbror 😊
