I've been thinking about doing a series about personal finance, building risk capital and investing on Udemy. I've been putting it off because it would be such a large undertaking. I would probably need 20 hours of content just to cover the basics. It could easily turn into three series with over 100 hours of content, IF I was able to condense the information appropriately. I myself have spent thousands of hours learning. But loving the tips and ideas on how to get started. Cheers! 😎
Sounds awesome Rich! Having amazing ideas that end up being too daunting or potentially time consuming is like the story of my life lol. I just checked out your channel (since I'm interested in PF as well) hoping to see a few sample videos there, oh well. I've also toyed with the idea of launching udemy courses but for the same reason have put it off...sounds like you have tons of knowledge to share. If there's any way I can help encourage, motivate, give tips, or potentially promote what you want to do, please let me know!
Hey guys! That's so cool that you've got loads of ideas. I'd DEFINITELY encourage you to make a course (but I am a bit biased ;) haha). I would caution you not to get too bogged down in how daunting the task is and how big your courses would be. The price on Udemy is so low that I wouldn't really recommend making a course longer than 4 hours - instead make a 5 part series! Of course if you're self hosting then you might want it to be longer &/ expensive, but for Udemy I'd keep it short to get better returns on time. Maybe just make an introductory short course and see how it goes? The sooner you make something the sooner the passive income rolls in. Woop woop!
@@locationindependent8311 Haha thanks! My yt channel has taken a backseat along with a lot of my other ideas until I am able to make the leap from domestic U.S. travel, to international backpacking travel, where I will have more flexibility with my time and schedule. But I have lots of ideas on a big list, lol.
Good deal, I love brainstorming ideas... if you have a social media we can connect on let me know, or feel free to shoot an email to locationindyjordan at gmail. I'm working on a project now, happy to tell you more about it if you want. If not no worries :) PS Happy Turkey Day!
Thank you much. It was such a great, short and informative video. I am also creating a course. But I am doubtful about my accent and my name which is hard to pronounce. Can I do something about it?
Thanks, I am just about to finish my first course. Maybe you can help me out with your document structure. How many pages for 2 hours course, what do we need to put in our video, what microfon you can suggest (not expensive one). Thanks
Hi Louise. Is your course 'Udemy Course Creation for Passive Income' still available? I am unable to purchase... "We couldn't complete this purchase. Please try again."
Nice video. I'd like to thank you, because I watched a couple of your other videos about Udemy before I made the big leap. It's now Black Friday period and I'm doing very well, with my new course as the #1 'Featured Course' in the English Language category. I also just got listed as one of the 'Popular Instructors' in the category. The funny thing is that if I'd known about 'fake students' before making my first course then I probably never would have even begun, because I naively thought all those numbers were paying students 😄 But thankfully it's all coming together after a lot of hard work. Thanks again for this video and your previous videos which pushed me to choose Udemy as my #1 source of income!
Wow I am absolutely THRILLED to hear that you've launched and it's going well!! Sounds like you've achieved a ton already so sure you're already thinking about your next course ;) haha. Yes the fake students are a problem for sure! Hopefully this video will help people in future avoid that mistake :) But I'm so glad it's worked out for you anyway!
Yet again, great stuff. I have to be honest, I purchased your course as a commitment tat when the van was done, I would get started on this. It's still there and I can't wait to dig in! I just love listening to you give advice. lol Take care-h
Hello Louise, it's good to see you after a long time. Please I'd like to know how to create a course online. I'm a linguist, French as major. I teach secondary school students. Although originally, I have a niche training as a Translator. If I'm going to teach French online, would it make sense to create a course for it?
Thank you. I like the way you discuss real information and real insights in positive sense. You make good videos. I am curious about two things: (1) how much REAL passive income from how many courses or how many real students? (I get it that there are many ways to cut your income and price and fake the students numbers). (2) would microphones from cell phone work? or have you tried different microphones. What is your recommendation of microphone and have you talked about it in other episodes? Thanks,
Hiya! If you search Louise Croft on Udemy they will come up :) But I also earn from lots where I'm not the instructor so they're not linked to my account. Hope that helps!
Hi Dale! Thanks for letting me know. Sadly that've changed the coupon system so instructors can't make coupons any more :( I am making a video about it. Udemy runs regular $10 deals though so you should be able to get a good deal still!
Digital Nomad Girl I like the topics on your experiences with Udemy, any courses that flopped, how much money you can expect to make. Any strategies for standing out. I think you covered some of these already but not all :)
I tried paying for two course on Udemy and the website kept saying my credit card invalid although it is current. i'm from the caribbean maybe these courses are not offered outside the USA need some advice
Thanks a lot for the tutorial! I never buy things from top searches as I like to search and the free trial that matches my needs is the one that I'll buy. I will never understand people who buy bestsellers as they don't always mean better quality.
I can't really agree about the longevity of sales. I have half the sales I had in April with twice the number of courses. Actually, I wouldn't rate my Udemy experience as very positive. Part of it may be that in popular topics the number of courses is just shooting up and the extra competition splits the market to the point that it's hard to make anything.
That's so interesting Eve. My sales have been super consistent (in a gradual upwards direction over time) and individual courses don't really seem to have dropped off at all. But yes perhaps your niches are increasing in competition? It is a big fear for me that my earnings will drop off so it's really helpful to hear how yours is going. I'd be so interested as well to hear if you end up doing self hosting and how that goes for you :) Thanks for commenting as always!!
it would be interesting to check if there's a drop in the interest in courses from your niche in general, then you can at least confirm if it's really a problem of high competition.
Love your videos, Louise! Informative & honest, as always ☆ My question for you, or maybe even a video topic, would be: Is it an easy transition out of Udemy once you have established your own base/following and reliable platform? For example, you say udemy does all the work of splitting up set percentages of pay between you and your collaborators for each video. Is that something I can easily find other programs to do if i were to start on udemy and then leave the platform for my own website? I hope that makes sense!
Hey Lez. GREAT question! So interesting :) Yes I think you can definitely do that - and I think people often do. I haven't used Teachable so I'm not 100% sure but I'd expect that they offer the revenue split option, and they are the platform most people use to self host. I believe they are very user friendly and easy. What is quite likely to happen though is that you'll get hooked on Udemy because it's soooooo passive. I could probably make a lot more selling the courses myself but I just love how easy this is! Hope that answered your question :D
I have a couple of courses already on a different platform, that doesn't have an exposed shelf so to speak, like udemy. I'm thinking about becoming a Udemy instructor so I can sell my course there. Question: Why are the courses so cheap, like 10 bucks? I sell my course for 497 dollars. Wouldn't it ruin the value of my content? I'd like your input on this. Great videos, by the way! :)
Yes if you sell elsewhere for $500 I wouldn't sell that same course on Udemy because your current customers will be annoyed. Udemy is all about the volume so you can still make a lot even on the low price if you choose a mass topic. For a high value course you need to drive your own traffic - but on Udemy you don't need to. I'd recommend making a different course for Udemy than your $500 one :)
@@digitalnomadgirl Thanks! I think I'm gonna break it down into several pieces and sell different courses with the content of each module, for example. Thank you for taking the time to answer me! Cheers!
On the number of students: I checked my traffic and conversion and saw crazy high page views. I was horrified to discover free coupons for my course had been posted on a couple of dodgy websites and I had never created free coupons for that course.
