Elitism and being super serious bugs the crap out of me. I've personally experienced it.. But like most hobbies/interests it seems to be the classic 2% that rub me the wrong way. Each and every Nerfer in the community has their own unique interpretation of what they like and how they express themselves. I had a blast just dressing up as a Ghostbuster and flingin foam. I never got a chance to actually chat with you at Foamcon/endwar but the VAST majority of everyone I met who I only knew from here was wonderful.
Simon Young I do each one of my builds a different color. I don’t have a specific favorite. Right now I like white, yellow, and blue equally. I used to do all of my projects black when I was younger, but looking back at them they all look boring, especially when compared to my creations now.
Simon Young For sure. It’s just my personal preference to stay away from black as a main color. I use it as a secondary or tertiary in almost every one of my builds though.
I really enjoyed this video, Bobololo! Thanks for your time in making it! Point 5 addresses what I love most about Nerfing, which is the inclusive community which gets on and just has great fun flinging foam at each other without prejudice or regard for differences, except for what colour team they're on of course. Long may it be so!
It's a universal truth that needs to be observed. Understanding and respect, but also swallowing your pride and have some humility if you don't, in fact, know everything.
Man, reddit is one of the nice ones, even if they are mean. And Joey, the search function is garbage. I dont care if it is asked 100 times, asking your own question helps way more than reading an old post that kinda fits your situation.
I would say that in NIC wars or wars with a higher FPS cap that have a minimum engagement range for blasters that hit a certain velocity, e.g. if a caliburn hits 210 then the minimum engagement range may be 5 or 10 metres or a longshot hits 270 with a minimum engagement range may be 10 or 15 metres. People using blasters of this high power and tagging people within the range is something that I would like to stop because it is painful to get point blanked with any blaster that hits above 250. Even if the game you’re playing at doesn’t have a minimum engagement range, it still would be nicer just to pull out your hammershot or your auto Stryfe that hits 130-140 so you can safely tag them out than accidentally hurt someone.
You should see how bad gatekeeping and/or elitism can get in Airsoft. It’s just as bad if not worse than it can get here. Though I am someone who is barely familiar with the nerfing community (I haven’t been around any nerf events I just like having wars with friends lol), I imagine if someone told me an incident involving gatekeeping, I’m fairly certain I’d be able to relate to it somehow lol
Honestly I think a good 75% of it boils down to people taking their hobby far too seriously. I'm not talking about having standards or being reliable or knowledgeable, I'm talking about having a false sense of superiority that you lord over other people. At the end of the day, you're just another person that is into a hobby based around foam dart shooting blasters.
Mephiston Lol yeah exactly! Or in the case of Airsoft, at the end of the day it’s just shootin’ plastic out of really realistic toy guns lol at the end of the day it’s all just a hobby that’s supposed to be fun, and sure as hell doesn’t call for people being superior over others

BoBo have you ever thought of doing a video on how to properly take care of a Lipo battery for Nerf purposes? It’s great info for someone to have & I’ve seen some videos talk about maintenance & care for a Lipo battery in general.
DisneyFireheart It’s so easy to do, charge lipo before the game, play, unplug, go home. When you get home, check the lipo voltage isn’t below 3.6v per cell. If it’s over that, put the pack away, if it’s under, charge it to storage on your charger, then put it away. Rinse and repeat. You should rarely get below 3.6v per cell if you use a proper sized lipo that meets the demands of your set up, even in multiple games where you shoot tons of darts.

The boards are pretty shnazzy. My worry is from the lack of slack between the tabs and possible breakage due to it. But all for tabs being soldered to one piece seems to make up for it? Idk, but I like the boards so far.

my first nerf mod ever was stock motor stryfe with 4 IMR's. it never burned out, but it rattled so much the thumb screw fell out and my batteries spilled out onto the floor. so please, if you are about to ignore this mans IMR warnings and just buy a crap ton of motors, at least use your IMR's responsibly.
The hurting of hand can be prevented by use of pliers or a handy hands, which also makes it easier to keeping the connection just soldered still while it cools down :)
I know how to solder, I’m too lazy to open my blasters up, not to mention most of mine are old and I don’t wanna risk ruining them, I’ve found ways around soldering. Ways with no chance of short. No solder.
I see more of the same questions pop up for flywheeler stuff than springers, though I do have at least one thing about springers I can add for a second video.
I have to disagree with #3. I did my first flywheel mod about 2 months ago, and I had no clue what I was doing. I watched several of the videos you showed regarding lipos, and several others about motors, cages, and flywheels, and was still confused. So I went to WalcomS7's discord server and asked people for setups, and after awhile I got some recommendations, I chose one and it works great. Had I chosen parts on my own I probably would have had tons of problems
1 thing I wish youtubers would stop doing: Doing hate lists, particularly when the majority of items are seeming to hate on people new to the scene who may also have a low budget (the stereotypical "new kid"), then saying they don't like gatekeeping. Ironic and shows some hypocrisy on my part here: 1 Thing I wish commentators wouldn't do: Doing hate lists. So, let's make this about giving positive alternatives: How about 5 things we can do to help new members of the community -- #1 to 4 get rephrased into discussing ways to help steer the new people to proven products/techniques. #5 stays how it is: Don't be a gatekeeper that hates on someone who doesn't mod the way you mod, ESPECIALLY when aimed at the ones new to the hobby, without shaming them for trying to get some bang for their buck, because for the most part they're probably just kids/students.
Also lest make a vid with all the "basic" modification trixs like the formulas and stuf (make it as long as you can and have time stamps in the description so people can have an easy time looking/just a websight or something with alot if not all things)
*screams NiMH packs* Should have been worth a mention tangentially to the battery issue, someone needs a lot of bad luck and a garbage charger along with raw stupidity to ignite one of those in our applications. You can't get a whole lot safer than that.
Motor hunting is part of the charm. Fitting ridiculous motors is part of the charm. At least to me. If I had gone known good I would never have started the Banshee build that finally resulted in 440fps. I would have stuck to a sane, known good blaster for its intended purpose, which was a high impact blaster for fursuit wars that were getting talked about. Those wars never even happened, so I am glad the result was a monstrosity that almost killed me twice instead. For those who don't believe in 12k RPM, you just need more yeet in the backend. Or just stop, it's a bad idea, and you will end up putting a flywheel through your wall and thanking God it wasn't your chest.
Disagree. Even though I love rayvens and think strayvens are ugly as sin no matter who is doing things with it, ultimately it's their blaster so more power to them. It's part of that whole gatekeeping thing. Register your opinion if people somehow think it will contribute to the discussion, otherwise shove it and just let the person do what they want.
@JakeTakeNoBreak Meh, I think Rayvens are one of the most overrated and overly liked blasters ever in the community along with the Crossbow. They're basically a worse Stryfe IMO and I don't mind seeing them used for shell integrations other than Strayvens. Strayvens are boring and I don't get why people like doing them so much.
@@Bobololo im not really fond of rayvens myself but i think destroying nstrike or elite rayvens are a waste since rayvens are a dying breed and i think strybolts are better than strayvens
I didn’t even start modding flywheels until about six months into my now practical obsession. Who wants to dump twenty bucks into two motors, and that’s before wheels, cage, Lipo, switches and wire? If The blaster you’re working on takes six batteries, the switches and wire are probably gonna be ok, 2S or 3S. Dart Zone scorpion complete harnesses work perfectly inside rapidstrikes on 3S if you cut the barrel motors out of the equation. 18650 batteries can be wired together to make 2S or 3S, and are found in old laptop battery packs. Most RC cars that take six batteries that you find in goodwill are legit for motors. Stock motors with the capacitors cut out are legit for 3S, ask my rhino fire with a 180 pusher motor. It sees more run time than my &@$#ing TV. A DC bench power supply will work fine to charge your Lipo if you do your math right. The NIC community is full of straight whiny little girls.
Burst rating is what the LiPo can do for a short amount of time. It's useful but not every LiPo has that rating on it. Whatever C rating is on the LiPo is the one to use, think of burst as a little extra bonus.
Seems like a lot of this is down to a combination of ignorance and laziness. Well, except for #5; that's just people being dicks. That said, adding a little bit of slack between motor tabs is a good idea I hadn't thought of, so thanks for bringing that mistake to my attention.
Strayvens should be illegal. Why would you ruin a perfectly good Rayven to make a concept everyone else already did? Instead, make the Stryfe into an afterburner.
Now if only we could get people to take women seriously and not treat us like objects, idiots, "Backpacks", or just ignoring when we contribute. I am so very, very tired of people seeing me as a woman and then immediately considering how everything I say is wrong like I haven't been modding blasters (Though I just called it "tweaking blasters" when I was a kid) for 23 years. I've had conversations go from having a respected opinion while in text to very quickly ignoring or talk down everything I say the moment "being a chick" is known. When I get my YT channel running (Not under this name, I don't hate myself), you'll never see my face or hear my voice. I just don't have time for it. And I've been modding for myself for longer than a lot of names in this community have been alive. I mod for myself, but if I'm not doing a top tier super war-practical nerf mod, it's obviously because I'm a woman who doesn't know better. A guy does it and he's hilarious and cool. I don't participate in the community part of Nerf because it has never been a community that I found friendly. INB4 some smart ass commenting some 4channy trash they think is clever.
Yeeeup, and that's the sad part. I've seen people do it in groups, and I know others who have had the whole "talking down" stuff happen to them. It's cringey and pushes so many people out of the hobby.
#7: Stop making videos where you leave out valuable information. I don't know how many times (most of the time) a video will just skip a major step or not let us know what part they are using or talking about. Give us all the info or don't even bother.
Not to sound like a dick, but LiPo, Trustfire, and IMR are all Google-able with information on all of it. I also made an okay video going over them. They're batteries with LiPos being the most suited for modding use.
That is the very first step in modding, after that comes writing your name on the thing with a sharpie, then some guy lets you hold an actual modded stryfe for a couple shots and you realize you've heard the call. The call to arms race!
Definitely gatekeeping 100%. Every god damn community I swear to god. Like, every single hobby/community I've ever been a part of has had a significant group of highly elitist gatekeepers that just try to bully the shit out of the poor nooblets to feel better about themselves. Being hyper-competitive is great and extremely fun, but in all hobbies we should be nurturing new members, especially young people and we should be trying to draw as many people in as possible. Even I've been guilty of this kind of elitism, trying to keep my hobbies underground because I felt that the 'noobs' and the 'squeakers' were somehow ruining the purity and counter-mainstream value of what I enjoyed and it's bloody pathetic. We all go through an annoying 12vie squeaker phase but, especially us older ones in our late teens and beyond, we should all be encouraging new people into our interests. We should be good role models because we're looked up to and those new people will follow us and turn out like us. The hobby will literally become full of people that act and think the way we do, for better or worse.
So noob questions bother you...Simple answer is don't invite new people to the hobby. There is a ton of videos about modding and I've spent an annoying amount of time looking for the single answer. So yes new people ask anoying/dumb questions. Just don't talk to them and distance yourself from people who you see as not on your level.
@@Bobololo not you, but I see so many Nerfers talking about their blasters as though they were firearms. People trying to use fireame terminology in reference to their blasters and getting it completely wrong and just looking like idiots.
The motor one is too true. We have motors designed for the hobby, why are you spending more time and effort on finding something you don't know will work. Someone already spent the time and money designing to that. Smh
Because they're a low knowledge and/or low budget "noob" that should be getting a hand up to reach the next level instead of getting a dismissive "SMH" sent their way.
Gatekeeping is my pet peeve, but moreso the subcategory of Elitism. On reddit, we get posts from people that are obviously eight years old and just happy that they drew a halo logo on a retaliator with a sharpie or something. Then some 22 year old dickhead pops in to explain how that's ugly and stupid and why would they post it. Those guys can fuck right off. Kids doing what they can with the resources they have is exactly where creativity begins. A hobby page is a place to show our best and be encouraged by like-minded folks. One day that kid might have $200 to drop on a hydrodipped Stryfe project, but he doesn't right now. In the same vein, honest questions that have been asked before should just be answered. Starting into this hobby is overwhelming and there's inconsistent info out there. Someone doing research will find prominent mod guides recommending IMR builds (because they are dated). So someone asking about it should just be told that it's old info and they should research lipos, not lectured.
#6: Stop trying to be first.

I know how to solder, I’m too lazy to open my blasters up, not to mention most of mine are old and I don’t wanna risk ruining them, I’ve found ways around soldering. Ways with no chance of short. No solder.
#7 bashing on other players simply for having a "bad" blaster. IE the Deploy CS-6, the Revreaper, etc.
You can thank that insufferable immature elitist Coop for all the Deploy hate.
@@Lolbama2012 pretty sure that's not true. Other people hate the deploy and are extremely vocal about it
Are spring blasters modders nicer / less annoying to you or are they under your radar?
For #2 that’s why I will stick to imr’s instead lipo because I don’t know how to solder I will learn in the future
Should learn as soon as you can. Just don't stress those IMRs out
Is there any reason for having almost all of them be in some way associated to flywheels? I'm just curious, don't want to sound rude or anything.
I see more of the same questions pop up for flywheeler stuff than springers, though I do have at least one thing about springers I can add for a second video.
I gotta make a list like this for Springers.
Wait ya that last part would be better as a "comunity" founded mod help search.
*screams NiMH packs*
Should have been worth a mention tangentially to the battery issue, someone needs a lot of bad luck and a garbage charger along with raw stupidity to ignite one of those in our applications.
Number 1: *Killing rayvens*
JakeTakeNoBreak Lol who cares about Rayvens
@@nicolasreed21 like 3/4 of the community. Lol
I wish Bobo would stop being so far away from me...
Good vid bobo, but I can't get past how you look like a cross between Peter Dinklage and Angus from Maker's Muse now.
What the RM2 motor a bad motor? How many amps are Blade 180s?
#6. Using MOSFETs. They're not electrically suited to run DC motors.
You say "Lipo discharge math is Ah.constant discharge." But foamblast says "Ah.Burst rating/peak discharge" so what is the right answer?
Burst rating is what the LiPo can do for a short amount of time. It's useful but not every LiPo has that rating on it. Whatever C rating is on the LiPo is the one to use, think of burst as a little extra bonus.
@@Bobololoit make sense 😀😀
What battery would recommend for the nerf hailfire that are not Lipo. Nvm I found my answer
Also....STRYFE EMPIRE WILL CRUSH THE GATEKEEPERS!
if you combed and slicked that hair you could be edgar allen bobo. 😂
There is a *lot* of overlap here with the combat robotics community, you should look into it bobo.
#DeathtoRayvens
I wish you explained why not to use motor a or battery b because i know people might not listen when they don't have a reason to listen
I dont really understand exactly what trustfire and IMR batteries are. Does that include Li-Ion batteries? (From a good brand)
#7: Stop making videos where you leave out valuable information. I don't know how many times (most of the time) a video will just skip a major step or not let us know what part they are using or talking about. Give us all the info or don't even bother.
...also...what the heck is a lypo (Lipo), trustfire, or IMR? Are they brand name? You never said, therefore violating rule #7.
Not to sound like a dick, but LiPo, Trustfire, and IMR are all Google-able with information on all of it. I also made an okay video going over them. They're batteries with LiPos being the most suited for modding use.
Oh so... nerf modders... not like game modders.
okay...
well.... i still enjoyed the video, good job.
I gatekeeped yesterday, only because my friend said he "modded" his nerf gun, he put on different attachments.....
That is the very first step in modding, after that comes writing your name on the thing with a sharpie, then some guy lets you hold an actual modded stryfe for a couple shots and you realize you've heard the call. The call to arms race!
Every nerfer can name all three albums, duh?
HA! Gotcha! They actually have 2 albums and 3 EPs! #handoveryournerfercard
I would always choose a strife over an fdl just cause I hate anything 3d printed
What's a sodder?
Nice video my dude
Claiming credit for doing a mod first because no one will remember
Well said.
Well put
A good lipo charger for 40$ ? Please give me a link. I got an icharger 308 duo and id like to compare.
I'll do you one better, it's under $35 before shipping: Accucell S60 on HobbyKing
I have the S60. Wouldnt swap it for the world.
Is long hair bobo coming back?
Do you come to senc anymore?
Don’t you think it’s weird that solder is pronounced sauter
No. that's how it's pronounced in the US...
I don’t care about our weird talking system
So noob questions bother you...Simple answer is don't invite new people to the hobby. There is a ton of videos about modding and I've spent an annoying amount of time looking for the single answer. So yes new people ask anoying/dumb questions. Just don't talk to them and distance yourself from people who you see as not on your level.
He speaks the truth.
Says they're a modder...
Turns around and says to buy an fdl cause modding a stryfe is a waste of time
Wait...there are motors in nerf guns? Back in my day they were all spring powered.....seriously....nerf modding is a big thing? Why?
Stop acting like a firearms expert because you're a Nerf blaster expert. They're not the same thing. Just stop it.
Firearms expert?
@@Bobololo not you, but I see so many Nerfers talking about their blasters as though they were firearms. People trying to use fireame terminology in reference to their blasters and getting it completely wrong and just looking like idiots.
Coop gatekeeps hard
The motor one is too true. We have motors designed for the hobby, why are you spending more time and effort on finding something you don't know will work. Someone already spent the time and money designing to that. Smh
Because they're a low knowledge and/or low budget "noob" that should be getting a hand up to reach the next level instead of getting a dismissive "SMH" sent their way.
Joseph Moniz rhinos and Michelle 2.0s are pretty cheap. They perform pretty well for their price point
I learned to solder in 10 mins lol
